I think it is fair to call this a bombshell. DC Jimmy Lake will take over, and Petersen is claiming it’s not a retirement- says he needs time to recharge and will transition to an advisor role at UW. End of a very short era - ( New Window )
They've underachieved a bit recently, but he had a pretty good run there. Took UW to a playoff right (am I crazy, I think i remember them making it)? They wern't exactly a powerhouse program before he got there.
12-2, 10-3, 10-4, one playoff and two NY6 bowls. Then the bad year this year (7-5). 54-26 for a winning pct of .680. They had went 23-16 in the three seasons before he arrived.
If he wants to coach again, he'd have a long list of suitors.

He was terrific at UW, and quite honestly, Boise State was better when they had him as well.
Washington, before Peterson, was treading water to just be average. The past five years or so, they've been the favorites in the PAC 12 North, and sometimes the entire PAC 12. What he's done there is nothing short of spectacular.
