December 2, 2019 Pat Shurmur Conference Call - ( New Window )
Pat is a nice guy

I would like a little more fire from him. It seems his team is also nice. I want our team to be more physical and intimidating.

I hope our next coach has a philosophy of being a fast and physical team.
Nice guy or not he compeltely

sucks as a head coach- two different HC'ing stints with over 60 games total and a record of 16 and 44 (I am not including the 1 Eagle game he was coach for). He has won 7 games in 28 as a HC of the Giants and 5 of them in his first year.

He talks and nothing is really said. He has not "get behind me" leadership qualities and he just doesn't come off as a master of people. Maybe schemes he does but people, not a chance!

Q: You said after the game that it’s a historically young team. Just curious what you meant by that.
A: Well, I think we’ve got a lot of young players playing. That’s all. Again, that’s more descriptive than an excuse. But we have more than a lot of places. That’s all.

Says it's not an excuse, but then uses it as an excuse.

GTFO here with this garbage.

He better be gone come 12/30.
I was glad to see the writers challenge him a bit

On the historically young comment.

Shurmur does seem like a nice guy

He'll make a solid Offensive Quality Control type guy.

As a head coach, he just doesn't have the personality and tools to get guys going.

I think the day after game 16 he and the entire staff are gone and a new HC is already in line. I am not sure DG survives either. It all depends upon who they want as a HC and what they think of DG's moves.

If we had traded Jenkins and not traded for Williams (we overpaid a bit for an unsigned guy) I think DG would have been better off. But hey, I'm a layman. For all I know Williams is re-signed and with an off-season and camp with the new HC he returns to probowl form next year along with Lawrence who has the tools.
our team is nice

i saw many times our defense helping the running back up and our OL helping the defense up. It's a job for these guys and you normally have to have good working relationships with everyone. otherwise who will want to trade you for your jersey? Wins / Losses are a nice to have but not a requirement. If it were, players would be benched, coaches would be fired, or dare I say not hired at all? But hell that's not very nice.

I'm looking forward to seeing the 2019 Participation trophy in the case with our regular season record conveniently left off the trophy with an autographed picture of our smiling head coach giving our new rookie QB a hug.

This team needs a Tom Coughlin type coach
historically young not that far off the mark

Giants giving rookies more minutes than any other team.

That's the most important thing the writers could drill down on?

Firing TC was the turning point. One fluke 11 win season with a infusion of merc defensive talent in 2016, nothing but losing since.

If they gave him one more maybe the Giants win it all in 2016.

McAdoo was a disaster who destroyed the offense and the team and Shurmur is clearly not the guy as the Giants are now the worst team in the NFL.

Probably should not have punted a two time super bowl champ coach who won twice with teams no one expected to win and cut through the best of the NFL like knife through warm butter. They literally replaced him with a subordinate who cant get a consession stand job in the NFL after his stint as HC. Coughlin's greatest weakness was picking some stinkers as coordinators.

The 2007 team never lost a road game after week one and proceeded to become better than the sum of it's parts en route to a title and historic upset of the Pats. Include the balls it took to play hard against the Pats in week 17 and you have one of the greatest single season coaching jobs in league history. Four years later he did it again with a roster that no one thought was full of world beaters.

Coaching

Now we have Shurmur, I challenge anyone to point out one positive about this coach. But, let's give him some more time.

The franchise is circling the drain into the abyss. Bet Mars wishes he kept TC or at least had a real plan in place before kicking him to the curb.

This.

With all the things PS deserves to be called out on, hammering him on that comment seems silly. They are leading the league in rookie snaps last I checked. Focusing on the "historical" part is nitpicky. They are young.

It can't be - the team had already been losing for years by that point.

The turning point was not deciding to flush the whole operation at once. TC retires, Reese is fired, a new GM is brought in and the scouting department is overhauled.

Instead - it's been the slow pull of the bandaid, one baby step at a time with the results declining year over year.
Shurmur isn't the

answer here, but I really find these conference calls and press conferences to be uncomfortable. He clearly looks like a beaten man and is taking these losses harder than all of us. I'm sure he realizes that he'll likely never get another head coaching chance again, and sees how badly this is all going.

To watch him get grilled by the press after each embarrassing loss... there's just no answers that he can possibly give that would look good. All he can really do is try to stay positive and get out of there.

Team finished 2012 with same record as champs in 2011. Roster collapsed in 2013, team STILL finished 7 - 9 two games off the previous two years.

Rebuild starts 2014 , 2015 offense is good defense is historically horrific (like now), team fires coach, infuses D talent and D has a great year carrying cluless McAdoo's Offense to the playoffs for an embarrassing loss where key players made asses of themselves the week up to the game and shit the bed during the game

2017 begins yhe abyss the team is in now where it is now firmly entrenched as the worst team in the NFL.
Sure, they were losing, but 2013,14,15 was a damn dynasty compared to the crap now. It was a mistake to fire him and not have some coaches lined up the team thought would be better. They promoted an OC who was horrible and will likely never coach in the NFL again.
