is my guy. Love what he has done at Baylor and how he has worked his way up. I think he'd be a great find. Give him the keys to the castle
We're not getting close to either

And neither is probably anyone else. $30m buyout for Rhule and Riley has a better job than most any NFL team can offer.
I think Riley ends up in Dallas

The $30m buyout number that keeps popping up on BBI appears to me as if it was made up from thin air. I have not seen anything that provides any evidence this is true.
I want a tough head coach with defensive roots and a winning record

My HC wishlist looks like this:

Saban
Harbaugh
Rhule
Saleh

If we can hire one of these coaches I'd be satisfied.

Plus like most buyouts, it's no doubt put in place to keep him from jumping to another college program. With there being little or no buyout for a jump to the NFL.
Neither.......

Give me a Robert Saleh DC for the 49erís. High energy no nonsense guy. Emphasis on D starting with Chase Young and using the cap money to bring in th best available on the defensive side of the ball.

We need to get back to Giant football and that starts with a stifling defensive game philosophy.

Been seeing that a lot, but the buyout clauses scare off other college teams. The Giants are worth $1.2billion. If Shurmur is gone and the team feels Rhule is the guy and desperate to turn things around, $30million isnít going to stop them.
Jim Harbaugh has a defensive background?
Greg from LI : 12/2/2019 5:07 pm : link
He played QB, his only assistant job before becoming a head coach was as the Raiders' QB coach, and his defense at Michigan isn't very good.
Greg fair point but I classify harbaugh differently...
Torrag : 12/2/2019 5:18 pm : link
...he's a football lifer whose father was a DC for 3 decades. He established a tough playstyle featuring a physical defense and running game in San Fran. So for me he qualifies for what I'm looking for. I should have been more specific in his case.

Riley has said it no longer make sense

For top coaches to leave for the NFL. He's not coming.

And how do we know how good Saleh is when he has the most stacked d in the league

My guess is there is an exception clause where the buyout doesn't fully apply to specific teams...like NFL teams.

I don't like Rhule for this role. James Franklin is a more impressive candidate if you want to go college ranks.

Harbaugh is all QB/offense, but has a defensive mentality from the point of view of toughness and ball control football complementing a good defense.

I've said it many times before, so it's not homerism at this point:

Harbaugh with a good coaching staff is scary. But he needs the OC and DC to be high level. His NFL experience so far was with Greg Roman and Vic Fangio. Roman excellent with run game coordination but not so much passing game (but this appears fixed in Baltimore via a passing game coordinator). Fangio is Fangio....

Harbaugh without the supporting staff I'm not so sure can do miracles.

Also, last time around he inherited the perfect type of team which was the quintessential roster for what he wanted to do. This time around if he took the NYG job, he would have to have a GM that would let him build it the way he needed. And I'm not so sure Harbaugh knows personnel at that level, so he would need a GM and director of player personnel staff to be able to get what he needs.

He's very good at recognizing and embracing "football player".

Harbaugh has proven himself well in college ranks, but I'd want to see him do it again in the NFL. It's weird because guys like Pete Carroll were seen as failures until he got his 2nd/3rd chance. Ultimately, rosters matter a lot.

Harbaugh doesn't get it
BigBlueCane : 12/2/2019 7:21 pm : link
CFB has changed to where it requires you have an offense that can drop 40+ in some games.

Even Saban got it and went spread. Harbaugh hasn't and its hurting him.
People need to look past wins and losses.
robbieballs2003 : 12/2/2019 8:02 pm : link
Saban is a great college coach because he gets the best talent. That isn't happening in the pros and his style doesn't work with adults. Nothing he does at Alabama is groundbreaking in terms of scheme or anything else. He is not the guy.

Same goes for any hotshot coordinators. Calling plays is way down the list of important characteristics in being a HC.

We need to start looking at true leaders. I am not saying Rhule is that guy but he is in the right category of coaches we should be looking at.

Very good point about Saban. His strength is sales - selling his program.

He's a disciplinarian and pays great attention to detail. And certainly give him credit for his willingness to change his offense over the years. But he's far from innovative and really just tries to out-man you.

He really needs to go back to the drawing board on defense because his supposed forte has been cutting carved up in big games over the last four years. They were a sieve this year against LSU and Auburn.

This weekend that he and his family are very close with Riley and his family and that Riley is a small town guy that doesnít want to leave his dream position thatís not too far from home where he is set for life and king of his world. Thinks that Riley doesnít want to leave this situation to try and turn around an NFL team under national scrutiny for less money and perks. Doesnít suit his life goals.

Forbes estimated the NYG worth at 3.1 Billion this year. I understand that the NFL buyout may be less than than the reported 30 million, but if he is the guy the Giants want, then if you have to, you spend the 30 million. The only expenditures I care about is the salary cap. I could care less how much Jints Central has to pay out otherwise. I mean they basically are paying a backup QB 20 million right?

This probably has been posted here before, but 30 million seconds is about a year, but 3 billion seconds is about 90 years.

Yeah that won't apply for a move to the NFL

If possible my first choice would be Josh McDaniels. 19 years experience coaching, 7 of those as NE OC/QB Coach

I hear you. If Mara wants to spend that money, assuming there was this airtight buyout with no contingencies, then god bless him.

But I imagine that would be historic. And I seriously doubt the full amount would apply. Hell, Maryland had to pay the ACC $30M+ exit fee to join the Big Ten. And that's a university.

I can see that

But I also guarantee you he's well aware of Nick Saban and how if you wait too long it'll just pass you by.

..Nick Saban has a pretty good set up. I'd say most if not all coaches would be happy with that career, and the only blemish is when he tried his hand in the NFL. The Giants are a mess, why leave a place like OU where they eat sleep and breath football and treat you like a king?

I think a college coach would be a mistake for the Giants. McDaniels is my first choice. Right combo of innovation and experience.
He would never come here...
M.S. : 12/3/2019 6:58 am : link

...but Chris Petersen just stepped down as Head Coach at Washington. His combined record at Boise State and Washington is 146-38. Just a tad better than Pat Shurmur's 17-44 at the Pro level.

Well, we're not looking for a Supreme Court Justice.

Franklin has done noteworthy work at Vandy and PSU. And watch PSU next year. They are going to be loaded and in contention for the F4.

Most here at BBI want like local flavors and roots. Well, Franklin checks a lot of those boxes. And the good thing to me is he has never been affiliated with Jints Central, so I see that as a plus.

If people are so head over heels for Rhule, than why not Franklin?
