1. A dominant Edge - Chase Young
2. Inside Linebackers... can’t go in with a washed up Ogletree and special teamed David Mayo starting.
3. A rangy FS.
4. A decent nickel back.
Can this be had this offseason?
Who should we target in Free agency or the draft to fill these holes.
Edge and FS are the obvious top needs.
Personally I like the idea of a Connelly/Mayo tandem. You can't have stars at every position and the interior LB's in a 3-4 aren't critical positions imo. They'd need another player in the mix but we can cut ogletree and save some cap room.
We have plenty of young talented CB's we just need to deploy and coach them properly.

I disagree completely with your assertion of ILB not being important. Dominant 3-4 defense have rangy inside linebackers that can tackle and cover. Think of the early 2010 Niners with Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman.
We have to see what we have in Connelly. He flashed in his 2 starts, but it’s still just 2 starts. Plus he’s coming off a big injury. Mayo isn’t a starter. PERIOD. The guy is a special team player at best.
connelly comes back and sign littleton or schobert. either would be awesome inside next to connelly, then draft chase young and resign williams and golden. thats a solid front 7 with three additions if you include connelly coming back
ILB can be had in FA but I am not sure who. I really like Connelly.
Edge is much harder to come by but we should be in a great position to land one in the draft.
The real undervalued position is our slot DB. I hope everybody understands after seeing the players we have put out there over the last few years that this is as critical a position in today's NFL as any other position. Teams just put out a third corner there most of the time and that isn't the solution. A unique grading system has to be tailored specifically for that position and a premium needs to be placed on it. It is very difficult to come by because most teams take that approach where they put their 3rd corner out there and keep their fingers crossed it works. Imo, I put more emphasis on that position than outside corner. You can give outside corners help. It is tough to give a slot help. How do you do so? Do you play a guy over the top? Well, as an OC I am running drags across the field. Do you inside/outside the guy? Well, as an OC I am stretching you deep. I would also matchup smaller/quicker guys and then bigger/taller guys to see if you can hang. It is vital to any quality defense imo.
Then I would trade out of whatever top spot we fall into and then add an Edge Rusher, another O-lineman and another LB (with the view that we can get 3 picks from our 1st).
boom...
Anakim for the win!! I know that’s the million dollar question, I just hope there’s a coaching change!

Hoping Connelly comes back from injury at full strength and is as good as he flashed, but that’s a big ask.
Love may end up being a gamer, but I’d love a killer FS back there.
Giants also need just better overall depth.

Peppers is JAG. I'd be looking to upgrade him as well.

When we pursue UFA's, get the guys that fit our system and can still play. No more Bethea's to just plug a hole. We need guys that can actually still play and want to play.

Not only hoping Connelly comes back at full strength, hope he can be an effective MLB if the D is a 4-3 next year.
I like Ximines and Carter but they haven't shown enough to make me believe they'll be forces in the NFL.
If we go with a new DC and a 4-3 defense, draft DE D. Young for DE, well we need LB's and a FS if Love isn't the answer.
...who will go over the middle and make tough catches in traffic.
We ain't got that kind of player on the current roster.

Thinking that interior LBs aren't critical is one of the main reasons this defense blows!!!

You know who else would like the Connelly/Mayo tandem?
The Cowboys, Eagles and Redskins.
First - I'd go back to a 43. Very nice interior DL rotation of Lawrence/Williams/Tomlinson/Hill.
Get Chase Young at DE and sign another DE in UFA.
I like Connelly at MLB, I'd play Zo Carter at 43 SLB and move Peppers to WLB. (He is not a S IMO.)
The DBs are fine - keeping sawing wood. Baker & Beal outside, Ballentine in the slot and Love at FS. I would then sign a veteran SS to be the ring-leader. (Think Rolle or Sam Madison.)
When it all shakes out the needs are as follows:
*Draft Chase Young
*Sign a DE opposite Young
*Sign a vet SS.
The most important thing is getting a good DC and coaching staff in place.
So game changer, lb’er or safety, who will it be?
