he might've been responsible for the "dream team", that worked out great lol
Um he was great on ESPN

Boom, BBI qualified.

Glad we hired Getts over that guy! Wed be 2-...wait you mean we hired the wrong guy?!

I was all in for Sweet Lou. Based on the results so far and the downward trajectory, that doesnt seem like too bad of an option.
I don't know if Riddick would...
bw in dc : 12/2/2019 11:57 pm : link
have been a good GM here. There was certainly risk.

But then again, Gettleman hasn't been a good GM. So we still came up short.
Agree

Dont understand when some point to Riddick. From the lot, that Mara interviewed, Gettleman was the easy choice. The problem is the candidates he interviewed and the advice he got from Accorsi
He said Daniel Jones was a bust and wanted to draft Haskins

to me
huygens20 : 12/3/2019 3:30 am : link
he is a younger Dave Gettleman

loud, brash, too testosterone-y, and doesn't seem like the kind of guy that could collaborate or seek improvement/help
he rubs me the wrong way
huygens20 : 12/3/2019 3:36 am : link
Because when you listen to him talk about college prospects

he discusses their attributes and projection as players in absolutes.

So all the GMs that passed on Lamar Jackson or Mahomes are terrible GMs as well? 🤦🏾‍♂️

If all you knew about a GM was he loved trubisky and thought Watson or Mahomes would be a bust...would you want him?

I don't watch ESPN other than the draft and this guy absolutely crushed Jones and called Haskins the second coming.
What has he done?

We still don't know what either of them are at this point...

You can not be THAT new to this site!
He's looks good on ESPN, because the other analysts are crap.

A 6 hot chick will look like an 8 if she's hanging with 4's.
I think
Pete in MD : 12/3/2019 10:15 am : link
he was the only truly external GM candidate the team interviewed when the job was open. He doesn't really have an exciting track record and it's not like he was a hotshot up-and-coming mind in the football world. He would have been another re-tread who was out of the league for a few years at that point (commenting on ESPN doesn't count as being in the league still.)
If Riddick really were such a savant, why isn't he a GM in the league?
regulator : 12/3/2019 10:18 am : link
The answer is, because the ESPN gig is cushy, pays well and is generally free from the consequences of missing on player evaluation.
He comes across as a loose cannon to me.

When the search is fixed from the start, of course the guy who you fixed it for is going to look the best

It's not like being a GM has many consequences for missing on player evaluation. People here seem to think Gettleman is being subjected to impatient, irrational fans.
Cant speak for BBI but
Tony in Tampa : 12/3/2019 12:06 pm : link
As Pete in MD alluded, I think a lot of people here wanted (and still want) an outside voice. Not another Mara cookie cutter FO character that has been indoctrinated in the Giants culture.

As someone said on another thread: He would not have had to pick Haskins over Jones since he would have taken Darnold the year before. He would have said no to Eli in his interview and since thats not saying what Mara wants to hear, hes immediately disqualified.
we need to stop forgetting DG was here when things were going well.
Platos : 12/3/2019 1:07 pm : link
when he left it started to go downhill. this isn't the "same old same old".

this isn't about familiarity. this isn't a favor. DG was a proven FO employee here before who had some success outside the org.

i remember after the 2011 SB win how people here were pissed we lost him to the panthers.

LOL! That's it, it's because Gettleman left, seeing how the main problem was the draft and he had little to no input into it.

Meanwhile - let's overlook the flaming disaster he's built upon his return. Or, the wreck in Carolina that developed after he was dismissed.

Yup, Dave to the rescue.
