What is your wish list for Head Coach, OC and DC in 2020?

buddyryansux10 : 12/3/2019 7:23 am
Since there will be a Giants house cleaning of some sort might as well put the Christmas list to together. Here's mine ( not too unrealistic ) with the qualifier that I have no more football knowledge than your very average fan:

Head Coach: Matt Rhule

OC: Jay Gruden

DC: Pepper Johnson

Thoughts? Lists?
Robert Saleh for HC
Leg of Theismann : 12/3/2019 7:43 am : link
Hopefully he could bring along Kris Kocurek (current D Line coach for 9ers) as his DC here.

Then draft Chase Young.

Bring back playing angry football to the NYG organization, in particular the pass rush, and I feel THAT is what will “change the culture” a lot faster than trying to find a bunch of boy scouts will.

OC I could care less beyond that. Just someone smart, can develop Jones , and can adapt to the strengths and weaknesses of our roster on that side of the ball.

Again- main point: Get the defense right, rush the passer, and build from there. It’s amazing how easily everything else has fallen into place for this organization in the past once we start rushing the passer , playing fearless D, and running around like a “bunch of crazed dogs” . That’s the TRUE old school “Giant way” . And my nominations for HC, DC, and 1st round pick will get us to that point faster than anything else.
Ideal OC

After thinking about it for a minute... would be Gary Kubiak. If we could get him. Saleh worked for him back with the Texans, maybe Kubiak would return the favor and work under Saleh .

I like that the guys you picked have connections from previous coaching jobs.

It seems that this is a common positive thread amongst good HC hires. It's much more than who the HC is, it's also who can this guy bring in that is quality in the coordinator spots, the QB coach, the OL coach etc...
A list of brief
buddyryansux10 : 12/3/2019 8:25 am : link
Head Coach: Matt Rhule - I'm wary of bringing in any coordinators without head coaching experience on a significant level ( meaning NFL or college program ). Rhule seems to check those boxes, plus at least outwardly he seems competent but not "milque toast". He doesn't seem to have too big of an ego, and although doesn't have a ton of NFL experience he has impressed Tom Coughlin enough for him to publicly recommend him ( for Temple )

OC: Jay Gruden - Has NFL head coaching experience ( which should be helpful to Rhule ) plus sounds like he was high on Daniel Jones initially. As much as Pat Shurmur has sucked as a head coach, I believe he has had a "net" positive effect on Jones. Gruden should be able to continue this trend since he has reputation of being quarterback friendly ( at least as an OC ).

DC: Pepper Johnson - Should bring back some of that "Giants pride" ( maybe that's my blue colored glasses speaking ).He has coached all over the defense for a long time especially our weakest area - linebacker. He has a chip on his shoulder being passed over for DC in NE, so he would want to have something to prove.

Again, just an average fan throwing in his two cents.

Should be considered for HC
I like Rhule for HC
Biteymax22 : 12/3/2019 8:36 am : link
But when it comes to coordinators I'd much rather they be someone our head coach trusts and has a previous working relationship with. To me its more important that the whole staff is on the same page.

One thing that's lost with Shurmur is he was unable to bring in a lot of coaches he's had working relationships with. Shula was a Gettleman guy, Bettcher was more than likely hired for him by the FO.

Harbaugh is my #1 choice for HC
Jay on the Island : 12/3/2019 8:51 am : link
But I think that’s unrealistic so I’ll go with:

Ron Rivera as HC
Norv Turnee as OC
Rod Marinelli for DC
Bill Callahan for OL coach
In my fantasy world
Jints in Carolina : 12/3/2019 8:56 am : link
GM- Belichick
HC- Belichick
OC: Norv Turner
DC: Who cares we have Belichick

Mike McCarthy - HC
mvftw : 12/3/2019 9:18 am : link
Rex Ryan - DC
Eli - OC
HC: Matt Rhule
sjnyfan : 12/3/2019 9:22 am : link
OC: Mike Kafka or Kevin O'Connell
DC: Kris Richard

With that said Rhule getting the guys he wants is most key for me.
Dan Campbell HC
Chris684 : 12/3/2019 9:59 am : link
OC: Realistically would probably be a Saints offensive assistant, maybe QB coach Joe Lombardi or WR coach Ronald Curry.

DC: Kris Richard
Surprised no one mentioned Quinn for DC
V.I.G. : 12/3/2019 10:00 am : link
...
Saleh for HC
Beef Wellington : 12/3/2019 10:11 am : link
Let him chooose his staff.
Key point for me
Mike in NY : 12/3/2019 10:14 am : link
I want someone who believes that they can win with Daniel Jones as a QB. He has looked far better than Josh Rosen and I am not sure that there is a QB in the 2020 Draft that will be as much of an improvement at that position as Chase Young would be for the Defense, especially if Cincy ends up with the #1 overall pick

I like it. If we are committed to making the 3-4 work, I would consider Rex. He is a loud mouth jerk, but he knows his defense. He wants to get back in the league, but no one is giving him a HC job. He has to prove his worth. I think Rivera would be the man to keep Rex in line with the understanding that it is a short-term arrangement. Rex keeps his mouth shut for a year or 2 and focuses only on defense. Turn around the defense and thank him for his service.

If Anthony Lynn should somehow shake loose from the Chargers, he's my first choice for HC.
Second choice for HC would be Keith Butler. Not likely to leave the Steelers, but I'd definitely put out feelers.
Third choice would be Saleh.
I'm not addressing coordinators.

I'd be on the phone with Bill Parcells and Accorsi getting their recommendations for someone in the mould of a Parcells/Coughlin - like guy. Not another "player's coach." A hard-ass who'll hold players accountable for shit play.

Harbaugh might fit that mould, though I've never really liked him.

Would love to get Sean Payton (a Parcells-style coach), but it seems he'll be in N.O. forever.

This is realistic and would be my choice.

If you want a Parcells football "descendant", Campbell is the guy.

Parcells>Payton>Campbell

Also played a few years under Bill in Dallas.
Campbell might turn out good
David B. : 12/3/2019 11:37 am : link
But he's never done it before. I can't see them going that way again after two misses on McAdon't and Shurmer (who had only a little HC experience).

They need someone who's turned a team around before.

And when I say a Parcells guy, I don't just mean any guy from his coaching tree. I mean a guy who coaches and motivates similarly. A guy who makes players AFRAID to screw up.

YEa Accorsi recommendation worked out so well the last time.

Please the Giants need to move on. No more Acorsi consulting bullshit.

Franchise desperately needs an outsider.
I admittedly don't know how well it would work out,
an_idol_mind : 12/3/2019 4:37 pm : link
but I like Dan Campbell as a head coach option. He played under Parcells, served as interim coach in Miami, and has been learning under Payton the past few years.

When he took over in Miami, he instituted more physical drills to boost the team's toughness and had the starting units practice against each other at times instead of the scout team. He seems to get respect from his players while remaining tough.

This could just be me waxing poetic about a former Giants player that I liked, but I think he has the possibility of being a good head coach and bringing a toughness that the team hasn't had in a while.

God, so many old farts on this list. This would be like the real-life football version of that movie "Space Cowboys" where all the old guys team up for one last hoorah. Or even worse "Last Vegas" where it was the same concept but instead of going to space they were going to Vegas.

Norv Turner is 67 and Marinelli is 70. I'm not saying these guys are necessarily too old to DO the job, but part of me just feels like the game is changing so much and so quickly at an exponential rate that we need *some* sort of young blood in here, even if it's not a whole crew of young guys just some. Especially if DG is still running the show, it would just be all these old castoffs who never won a super bowl even in their intellectual prime when their philosophies were still relevant, so what makes everyone think they would come in an win a super bowl now all of a sudden (aside from the fact it would be a terrific Hollywood script for them to all finally win one)?
Apparently I'm one of the few continuity posters

and I believe this team's struggles and losses are a result of their league worst TO margin and youth. I believe the schemes on both sides of the ball are proven in this league and the whole group, coaches and players, can grow and improve with experience and time. Remember, everything is limited now with the new CBA.

However, if the staff is released.....I'll keep banging the same drum since KG was fired. I want the Shannahan/Kubiak offense. I posted in the past about Kyle and even Lafleur, and those ships have sailed. If this fan was in the room, I'd be making a plea to approach Kubiak with an offer he can't refuse.

HC - Gary Kubiak
OC - Rick Dennison
QBC - Klint Kubiak
DC - Richard Smith

Dennison has a long and successful career of strong running games and dynamic backs. Dalvin Cook is the latest but remember Arian Foster? I think Saquan would flourish under Kubiak and Dennison, and with that kind of rushing attack, so would Jones.

Defensively, I'd like to hear the input from Kubiak and Gettleman. I think Bettcher can and will have success in this league however I threw Smith's name in there because of his history with Kubiak, his past successes and his ability to keep the 3-4 intact. I'm also curious about the coaching ability of La'roi Glover and Chris Harris who work on the Chargers staff with Smith.
