No.

I want someone new, up and coming, with a fresh philosophy.

I've said it on other threads but Robert Saleh is my choice for HC, and I'd like Chase Young at his disposal as well.

Gary Kubiak (who Saleh has worked for before) would be my choice for OC.

This franchise needs a gut job ( aka gettleman and the scouts all fired ) and not just a paint job.

Keeping gettleman and bringing in rivera is not accomplishing much going forward and is not fixing the source of the problems .

I like Kubiak as a HC. I think he would be a much better mentor for DJ than Shurmur.
I would be ok with that
jvm52106 : 12/3/2019 11:34 pm : link
as it fills many true expectations of our next coach.

What about Dan Quinn? I think he could be a guy who just needs a change in scenery. Give him a bigtime OC and young DC (Mayo perhaps) and off you go with Chase Young as the pick in Rd 1.

Why not, they're going to fuck up the coaching hire anyway

Bringing in Gettleman 2 years ago
Giantz_comeback : 12/4/2019 12:40 am : link
After firing Reese, Ross and Mac then DG revamping the scouting department, purging almost every bad apple and Reese/Ross player WAS the tear down.

I don't see them throwing all that rebuild away after 2 years.

DG has done enough good things: Jones/Barkley multiple promising late round picks to warrant continuing with his rebuild with a new coaching staff to get the best of these players. Rivera/Turner would be a nice combo. McCaffery is playing amazing under Norv and I think Barkley would too. He also get the most out of that back up QB. Norv knows offense and Rivera knows defense.

Id prefer Harbaugh or maybe Urban Meyer but I like the combo a lot.

SGMen : 12/4/2019 12:42 am : link
Solid HC; super OC; and generational pass rusher and solid run defender who impacts as a rookie.
Britt ...hell yes!
shocktheworld : 12/4/2019 1:23 am : link
It’s not perfect, but it solves many problems...Ron is the defensive minded HC many of us crave, and Norv Turner as our OC, is a HUGE upgrade of murmer’s pathetic play calling....I think we’d have a really good chance to compete for the division with these coaching changes and a good draft (between Young and Barkley we’d have two of the most heralded draft talents of the last 20 years)
While I'd like Rhule, I think this would be the start of a very good
shockeyisthebest8056 : 12/4/2019 1:44 am : link
offseason. I have ZERO interest in coaches with no head coaching experience and the guys who I know are better coaches than Rivera don't seem like fits for this situation (Harbaugh especially).

I'm not a fan of DG, but I don't have a problem with him sticking around if the new coach actually wants that and is given more decision-making power than DG.
begrudgingly

I’d take
Earl the goat : 12/4/2019 5:38 am : link
Harbaugh HC
Rivera DC
McCarthy OC

Trade down for an additional First and second rounder

Obviously this won’t happen but it’s a dream
I’ll give you this Britt -
Sean : 12/4/2019 6:39 am : link
That would be the best outcome if Gettleman was retained. But, I don’t think that is the best for this franchise going forward.

I think this is the ideal time to overhaul football operations.

I dont like McCarthy at all. The Green Bay offense seemed to be effective only due to Rodger's ability to create. Those two could not work together and I did not see another team hire McCarthy yet either. Makes you wonder why...
A huge no on McCarthy..

Either chris Mara or Gettleman need to go at a bare minimum
Why are we trying to create a Panthers north?
TD : 12/4/2019 7:05 am : link
Fire DG. Fire Shurmur. Fire the Maras (those with mgmt roles). Fire the scouts.

Bring in a new football guy/mgmt team to build the org from the ground up.

This should be our mantra.

Period.

With Rivera, but he is extremely mediocre.

He had some terrible seasons in Carolina and almost got canned in I believe his first 3 seasons. Drafted Cam and that turned things around.

We could certainly do worse, but I think we can do better.
Despite Rivera’s current situation
JFIB : 12/4/2019 8:35 am : link
The man has TWICE been voted coach of the year. Sustained success on one team is very rare and a change of situation hold we’ll do the trick. Remember Shurmer was like our fourth choice. It’s not like coaches were beating down the door to coach this team and if the fact that DG is here helps seal the deal on an experienced head coach like RR then I’m in.

This is not at all what happened. He drafted Cam his first year in Carolina. Went 6-10 & 7-9 in his first 2 years. Then he went to Divisional round of the playoffs twice and a SB the next three years.
Yes

but only to get barkely and Jones under Norv turner to see what he could do with them.
As far as half measures go, this is likely the best outcome
Mike from Ohio : 12/4/2019 10:08 am : link
But if Gettleman is back, then aside from Chase, this is just more shuffling of chairs.

I have no confidence in Gettleman's ability to build a team, so any offseason plan that involves him coming back is, in my opinion, a poor one.

Saying no is laughable. Of course I would. It's like some of you guys haven't been watching the Giants (which I get).

That is a competent staff and a high end pick that fills a need. It's as if people are holding out for Bill Belichick.
I think if DG is kept
Kyle in NY : 12/4/2019 10:41 am : link
this is just about the best case scenario we could hope for. To be clear, I want a complete house cleaning. Gettelman has done nothing to show he deserves to stay. But the Giants have shown themselves to be a half measure type of organization. So if they fire Shurmur but keep DG, yeah I guess this would be alright. Blah

But hes a retread, lol Giant fans are stupid.

Absolutely would do this, Don't forget the Pittsburgh connection too. Those bitching about his Panthers record, his team always palyed hard and tough and had to overcome a lot of mistakes made by Cam -they say Cam giveth and Cam taketh away.

He'd be my first choice for DC if he doesn't land a new HC gig. he'd be a fallback position for HC if the better options don't pan out.
Versus what we currently have?
Johnny5 : 12/4/2019 11:11 pm : link
Hell yes.

However, my gut tells me we really want someone less old school, really more than one person with football operations as a top priority. This needs to be fixed from the head down.

That said? I'll root like hell for him if we hire him. I'm not arrogant enough to think I know how well he would work out here. And it HAS to be better than what the hell we are currently watching every Sunday...
Can't give you yes or no
Thegratefulhead : 12/5/2019 12:41 pm : link
Will a root for them and be happy about it. Yes, put almost any coach and chase young and I am gonna roll. Not sold on Rivera. I would prefer to hire a big name guy that demands control of the roster. Too tired of, is it the coach or GM garbage.
