I was hoping for the tank the rest of the season....

NJBlueTuna : 12/4/2019 1:09 pm
But now I want Eli to have one last run and light them up Monday night to knock them out of playoff contention. I don’t care if it’s akin to cutting off my nose to spite my face.

As bad as I want Young, I would be ok with one last reminder of what Eli gave this team at times. Funny thing about Eli, when you expect him to fold, he has this innate ability to overcome the odds.
Except for the last four

True....

Eli is already a legend

with two Super Bowl MVP's. He can do us a big favor by playing well enough for the Giants to lose -- we need Young so we have a shot at a future Super Bowl.

Shurmur is still the HC, and Bettcher is still the DC

This.
Even if Eli
darren in pdx : 12/4/2019 1:26 pm : link
has a decent game, the defense will most definitely screw it up. Especially against the Eagles.
The Giants will still probably lose out.
an_idol_mind : 12/4/2019 1:26 pm : link
That said, I would prefer to see them win some games and let the draft sort itself out. No single player is going to fix this team on his own.

Posters care about Eli AND the Giants. This thread topic kind of underscores that.

Its funny, but I was thinking ok, Eli and his veteran saavy will somehow cut down on the turn overs and make a feew key plays to rally the team......then I read a few of these takes and realized you are absolutley correct. Eli couldn't overcome Shurmur and Bettcher last year and won't this year. hope he doesn't look too awful.

+1. Same posters who have been wrong about how good this team was gonna be these past several years, as well.
Eli had his chance against the Eagles
Leg of Theismann : 12/4/2019 1:46 pm : link
to "overcome the odds" and orchestrate one last magical run last year. It could have started on TNF at MetLife with the Giants sitting at 2-4 and the Eagles at 3-3. It was a rough start to the season but I had full confidence that Eli could right the ship. Boy was I wrong. That turned out to be one of the ugliest games I've seen in years and I believe the first play was an INT by Eli. It was that night that I lost all my faith in Eli to be able to turn things around. It was that night that I realized he just isn't the same player he used to be.

Lose Face for Chase.
Play like Dung for Young.
Last Place for Chase.
Bottom Rung for Young.
The Rat Race for Chase.
Tank with Haste for Chase.

And all that shit.
I like the sentimental aspect..
BamaBlue : 12/4/2019 1:49 pm : link
of Eli playing. The reality is something different. It seems that every season the NFL is ready to throw dirt on the grave of the Eagles, the Giants appear on their schedule. Nothing has been better for revitalizing the Eagles than playing the Giants... rinse, wash, repeat.
I'd rather have Chase Young
ajr2456 : 12/4/2019 1:50 pm : link
because, you know it helps the future of this franchise.
I don't believe there is a movie ending here
larryflower37 : 12/4/2019 1:58 pm : link
It will be a very ugly final 4 games.
Hopefully, This makes Eli realizes this is the end and retires a Giant.

Jones's mobility has helped us. Eli may not fumble as much (then again he may) but, he will be sacked just as much if not more.
I'm sorry but

I'd much rather root for the Giants to win with Eli than root for them to lose so we can "possibly" get Chase Young. Jadaveon Clowney was #1 overall lets not forget that.

GO ELI!

While I agree it has helped in some spots, Jones stays in the pocket an awful lot. He doesn't really use his mobility as much as he should. To be honest, I don't think we will see a big difference with Eli minus the run plays/scrambles.
I'm betting Eli isn't thrilled about playing
DCOrange : 12/4/2019 2:45 pm : link
And don't give me any "he's a competitor" BS. He's been out, the season is long over, he's seen the disastrous OL up close and knows he's either going to get killed or have to dump half his passes, he's probably long come to terms with watching and going home feeling good physically, etc, etc. There is no upside in him coming and going out with more losses while running for his life.

Here, Here!

Its incredible that somehow cheering for a Giants win and an Eli win is ....cheering against the Giants? I think by this point the writing is on the wall and PS is a goner. I Think reality is the Giants will most likely lose on MNF AT Philly against the Eagles(probably their 3 biggest pieces of Kryptonite). But whether it was Jones or Eli, I can't root for a lose to the Eagles even to get a better pick.

The problem is that the OP is admitting the he wanted us to lose out to get a better draft pick when Jones was playing, but now that Eli's playing he wants us to win. Which shows that that for him he's really an Eli fan first, Giant fan second.

Not sure your point, but Clowney is a former All-Pro, multiple time Pro Bowler and a flat out awesome player whose about to get a 100+ million dollar contract. Chase Young is a better football player. Rooting for a QB who won't be here next year to win end of the season games in a 2-10 season is just flat out dumb.
Just frikkin' win.
an_idol_mind : 12/4/2019 3:17 pm : link
I'm not interested in watching football to root for the best draft pick. Too many can't miss guys do in fact miss in the NFL.

In my opinion, getting the next coach right far outweighs who the team might land in the draft. If the team continues to miss on the higher ups, it doesn't matter if they land Chase Young or the robotic clone of Lawrence Taylor.

I think what we've learned the past few years

talent > coaching and culture. This team could have Tom Landry as it's coach and wouldnt be good. You need talent to win football games.

I don't know why some are hoping for a miracle run. It does nothing to help the Giants now or the future. It's great to see Eli have a sort of "farewell" moment even though that's something he would've preferred not to have.

I've been a fan since the early 70's and I've never rooted for them to lose or root for a loss to get a better draft pick but this year that changed for me after the Arizona game.

At that point I was convinced Shurmur was a terrible coach and hurting this franchise. One I've loved for decades. I found myself not dwelling all week on losses and looking forward to the next game as I felt we were at a huge disadvantage with him at the helm.

I've resigned myself to looking forward to what's best for our Giants long term and at least for me, if it takes more losses this year to get rid of this coach then I'm ok rooting for that. I feel I'm still rooting for my team just in a different way, as its more about next year than these last meaningless games.

That said, I'm hoping Eli lights it up. I have no doubt it won't be enough though as our coach and this D will get lit up worse no matter how great Eli plays.
Eagles 24-23 over Giants
SGMen : 12/4/2019 8:50 pm : link
The Giants will play hard but we don't have the horses on defense to slow down a better QB and OL with its weapons back healthy now.

However, the Eagles defense isn't all that either. I see us lose a close one.
I'm hoping the Giants are conservative with Jones, letting Eli
CT Charlie : 12/4/2019 8:51 pm : link
lose to Eagles but beat the Fins and Skins. DJ starts in the finale vs. the Eagles and Eli retires with a winning record. One can dream, yes?
Rereading my post above
Eman11 : 12/4/2019 9:13 pm : link
I don't think that came across exactly how I feel or meant it to. I don't actually watch and root for the opponent or the Giants to lose.

I'm just not rooting as hard for them to win and find I'm more indifferent to their play. I'm not living and breathing with every snap or loss, and find I don't take the losses as hard since they're one more step to getting rid of Shurmur.

I still want the team to do well and play competitive, it's just I think a loss serves the greater good more than a win will this year.

In the pinned topic: is there some collective amnesia? Eli was benched for a reason. In that time the team has managed to play worse under PS' watchful eye.

I understood the sentimental part of seeing #10 get out there again, but odds are overwhelmingly in favor of the Giants getting absolutely wrecked

I hope Eli gives a gallant performance, but we lose a close game.
A year on from now, looking back and saying we missed out on Chase Young because a quarterback at the end of his illustrious career came back and gave us a night to remember in a meaningless game? It's not worth it in the long run.
