Thought this was worth posting for general NFL interest. It must be fucking awesome to be a Chiefs fan right now, thought this article captured the feeling well. It’s rare to have the best player in the sport on your team, it’s not something I can definitively say I’ve ever experienced as a fan. I guess Martin Brodeur was the best goalie in the NHL for a period but not really the best “player” and also you don’t tune in to watch great goaltending.
Mahomes is a transcendent talent, one of the few athletes on earth I will go out of my way to watch. I have no ill will towards the Chiefs, they are a long suffering franchise with history and what appears to be a great stadium and fanbase so I’m happy for them. Can’t imagine how exciting it must be to have that kind of player arrive on the scene for your team. I’m also happy for Andy Reid and hope he wins a Super Bowl.

I'm all for being patient with Jones but I'm sure at #6 overall we were all hoping for what's being described above. I do wonder how good Mahomes would look playing in this ridiculous offense. (And Jones in Reid's well-oiled machine.)
The perfect response from the perfect handle.
We tend to look at results too much -- sure it matters, but a lot of what is great with mobility is regular season based, not as much post season.
The idea here is that you develop the mental/throwing side of the game and not run around as much when you get better. The perfect example of this is Steve Young.
I have re-watched some of Young's highlights recently....RUNNING highlights......and I have forgotten just how freaking good he was at running the ball for yardage, escapability, mobility, etc. The guy has 2 or 3 ~50 yard TD runs in his career which is impressive for any era, even more so the one he played in.
So the guy was drafted more or less as a running QB and Bill Walsh molded him into a pocket passer in the most hardcore WCO timing based system. Between Walsh and Mike Shanahan he got training no less than Montana got, and IMO compared to just about every other mobile QB that's ever played, there's no comparison in my mind at his ability to play QB cerebrally versus all of them. Wilson, Mahomes, Jackson, Watson, would be lucky to be 80% of what Young was in his prime from understanding how to read defenses and the totality of throws (short, intermediate, deep, timing, etc).
Maybe 90% of Montana's footwork, a stronger arm in exchange for slightly less touch, superior mobility. As a regular season QB on dominant teams, I'd say Young was better than Montana on an explosive element.
But postseason wise, it just wasn't quite the same. And yes, Young did play in salary cap/free agent era that Montana didn't. But the eye test to many a Niner fan showed a difference, especially since he played with a lot of the same receivers.
So this long winded post is here to say that we've yet to see a mobile QB truly dominate from the Lombardi Trophy perspective.
Honestly, it's not even mobile QB but physically gifted or whatever.....aka Aaron Rodgers.
With respect to Mahomes, 0-2 against the Patriots. Some pedestrian stats by his standards of late....
2-0 against the Ravens though, which might be interesting this year....
