Eli has been a staple for the Giants for so long that for many younger fans he is the only QB they’ve witness play up until DJ. For me he is a tie to my father who passed Dec 3, 2010. The joy of that ‘08 Super Bowl win has been unmatched! He is the only QB my daughters can remember (17 and 20 years old now) The Giants aren't just a sports team to my family. It’s a family staple that dates back to my Grandfather. Every Sunday the entire family gets together to have a big dinner and to watch the Giants. So In essence Eli’s departure is the end of a period of time...whether it be when your kids were little or great memories with loved ones who have passed. Hopefully Eli goes out with a good showing!
Living in Philly I'd be surprised if it's more than apathy... Very little respect for Eli down here, mostly due to jealousy and/or ignorance of anything outside Philadelphia..
Seriously?
I really am really going to miss him.
This is likely going to be very, very ugly.

Get from Philly fans who boo everything.
Seriously?
Yes
But I'll be honest: I want the #1 pick in the draft and the ability to trade down for D. Young and more...a fleecing.
Hire Rivera as the next HC. Maybe he even keeps the OC and some of the staff. I don't know.
with class I just hope its not one of those games
where WR's are bobbling into interceptions
or Eli is getting pummeled every play .
But we will cheer him on he a legendary Giant

Why in the hell would you want to keep any of this staff? They are getting their collective doors blown off on both sides of the ball every week.
I know he'll be prepared. I know he's looking forward to playing. I just wish he had a chance in hell to win this game.
And I'm sure I'm in the minority on this board, but I like that part about Philly.
How about if he plays the last 4 games that we lose all of them and he plays decent enough so that the ehive can have something to dream about.

Eli should have retired after the 2017 season. It was depressing to watch him last year. This is the greatest quarterback in Giants history and last year , he was a shadow of what he once was. If he plays on Monday he'll be rusty on top of that and he'll be playing behind an offensive line that's more horrific than it was last year. It is entirely possible that he pulls off an upset against the Eagles as dysfunctional as they are. So what ? Personally, I hope he never takes another snap. Let Tanney start and get this season over with
You find strange things to be depressed over. Completed 2/3 of his passes for 4200 yards, 21 td last season.
LOL..I think Eli actually might get some love from the Philly crowd
Yeah, real strange. How dare they want a player that might actually help this shit defense we have. Lets win a meaningless game instead that no one will remember in a few months!
This place is seriously like the twilight zone. And that is me being very kind about it.

because of draft position because you are in love with some semi-pro at Ohio State are a strange group.

strange because we want an impact defender and new coaching staff? if we win out, could you imagine the narrative....oh eli still has it!!! dont worry, we missed young, its okay! noooooo fuck all that. lose out. fire shurmur and draft young
And second and more importantly, this franchise desperately needs to turn the page on the Manning era. And while they mostly have, he's still lingering. Him being back is like a text from an old girlfriend.
I'm disappointed that Jones got hurt and is not playing. What little chance they had of winning just got flushed, although in the long run for the draft this is actually better for the team.
Don't go there, I'm not bashing Eli, but I am certainly not fawning over seeing him play again. I'll certainly be hoping he pulls one out of his ass and will also certainly be rooting for him to play well.
Quite frankly, to me, this is like seeing CC at the end of this year. I love him and absolutely appreciate what he did for the team. But CC was done last year and out of respect was brought back this year. Same with Eli. He was done before last year, but had a contract and also the respect of the team so that he was not unceremoniously dumped.
To each his own. But I prefer not seeing Eli get the shit kicked out of him by a desperate Eagles team when Solder and Remmers have been turnstiles. I don't want to see the shell of Eli pounded in Philadelphia.
It's called seeing the big picture and putting the TEAM FIRST before one's sentimental feelings for an individual player.

At the risk of being argumentative, I humbly disagree with a “Tank for Player A” approach when it comes to the NFL — especially when it comes to a non-QB. A tank definitely works in the NBA if you get the right player, but I think the NFL is different. Look at Mario Williams, Clowney, Myles Garrett — all Chase Young style phenoms who went to losers who stayed losers. No one non-QB makes a big enough difference to overcome the bad effects of exposing your returning players to the damage of feeling like they are part of a loser. Football is a 100% buy-in game b/c of the constant threat of serious physical harm — I keep coming back to the Steelers ... any player who joins that team feels like they are part of something and there are no throwaway seasons.
My opinion may be wrong — what the hell do I know — but it’s not based on stupid emotional reasons, it’s actually just a difference in philosophy.
Eli’s stats last year were practically identical to Tom Brady’s. And Brady’s production was good enough to win a Super Bowl. How many fourth quarter leads did the defense blow? So, Eli wasn’t the problem. With a defense and some better caiching, Eli’s production was fine.
I'd like to see Manning do the same thing to Shurmur.
Great post!
