I don't want to break the bank I just want something compact, sturdy and fairly inexpensive. I don't need any fancy features outside of a basic timer and calorie counter. I just don't trust the reviews I see everywhere, but occasionally BBI helps me find a gem. Anyone? Bueller?

LOL...dammit, you beat me to it. I thought I double posted.
No, it's a failed marketing campaign from Pelaton where you have this petite, well-to-do Millennial who is given the Pelaton as a gift by her husband. She records herself as she starts using it and how she's scared, and then she uses it all the time, and at the end, she puts together the video of her thanking her husband for changing her life.
Super cheesy. A step beyond the awful Mercedes commercials where the rich hedge fund manager buys matching cars for him and his wife with the bow on them in the driveway.
The person on the screen is one of the spin class workout leaders who broadcast live as they are doing their class in NYC and riders can ride along with them in real time.

to be the same woman riding at home and on the bike video monitor, do they just resemble each-other, or did they eff that up?

Yeah I've seen the (unintentionally) hilarious ad campaign. Maybe it's me but the wife lady looks a lot like the spin class leader on the monitor, like they only hired one actress to play both parts thinking no one would notice.
Sure, it's cheesy like the bow-on-the-Lexus commercials, but people taking offense to this commercial really need to get a life.

I never use it, but it was $48 all in so it's better than spending 2k. Plus if you buy a cheapie and use it all the time you can then justify buying a new one.

If you do, hold off until February. The shit will be practically new after all the failed New Year's Resolutions.

Nice that you don't care about the knees, back and joint issues, those things usually don't bother people...SMH
Love it. Never did any biking before...treadmill and elliptical in basement have collected dust.
I'm a very competitive person... so super motivated by trying to continually improve my own metrics and move up the leaderboards....
If you can handle $100 per month payments for ~3 years and then $40 per month thereafter.. it's pretty sweet.

Just go on Craigslist. Tons of fatties unloading stuff they bought but never used. I got a nice recumbent bike last year that needed a new control card. Bike was free the part was $48.

Can probably even get a slightly used Peloton after some guy buys one for his wife and she divorces him...
Some savvy investors likely bought on the dip. I bet in the long run all the (free) publicity from it going viral will boost sales.

good for you. Hope you both enjoy it.
I bought one 2 Christmases ago. My wife really wanted it and was already shelling out $130/month for a spin studio membership 15 minutes away from the house.
We've had our ebbs and flows as far as being good about getting on the bike, but we've both gotten a ton of use out of it. It's helped me reduce the frequency and severity of my disk-herniation flareups dramatically.
One of the most enjoyable parts is watching people get all indignant about how overpriced it is and 'rich white people' this that and the other.
Some of the twitterverse woke sociology deep dives into the commercial are a riot. There are some deeply unhinged people out there. I hope that my sense that it's a growing number of people is inaccurate.

We got a Peloton 3 weeks ago... my wife has used it 21 days straight, I've used it 12... we have it right in our bedroom so it's hard to not use it.

i own one and love it. But i do laugh at the commercials. My house doesn't look like the homes on the commercial.
You want a really good laugh? join the official peloton member page on facebook. There are some real psychos in that group.
that i laugh at as well. Bike is awesome and the workouts are great. it does the job for me and it works!
I sprung for a Peloton last winter during a particular cold spell and got a crash course in just how challenging spin classes can be. My previous cardio regimen couldn't compare. The beauty of Peloton is the competition with the leaderboard, friends, or yourself. You can set your challenges relative to your body and skill level. At this point I am consistently in the top 10% of each ride but challenge myself to get in the top 5%, whereas a lighter female such as my wife might challenge herself to the top 33%. We bought the bike in February and probably have accrued over 450 rides between the two of us.
I've also found the app useful when traveling as I'll leverage the classes on the bikes or treadmills at hotels, or outdoor running classes in warm weather.
From a cost perspective, the initial purchase may be prohibitive for some but for me the offset from cancelling probably $200/mos in Soul Cycle/Orange Theory was worth it.
Not to mention that now I can zip up my branded Patagonia vest and chat with the yuppie preschool dad's crew about which instructor they like best

I'm a very active person that used to snicker at my wife shelling out big bucks for Soul Cycle and Orange Theory while I'd reply that my Rocky IV regimen in a no frills gym got a better job done for me on the cheap.
