Let's give Wayne Gallman a chance to show what he can contribute and at the very least give him the reps to develop as SB's backup.
Peppers is a no brainer; let him heal. Find out what the Giant's have in Love; let him make his mistakes this year, and maybe they can part company with Bethea.

Gallman has gotten all the reps he needed to prove himself as a career backup. Agree on Love.

The dropoff when he's off the field defensively is minimal, if anything.

Not really. As the year went on, he was turning it up. And how many punt returns did he have? Only one I can remember is the one he got hurt on.
Peppers did not get hurt on the punt return. He was back on the field playing after that.
He got hurt on the kickoff return at the very end of the first half. It was his first kickoff return of the year.
There were eight seconds left when that kick went off. Eight seconds.
Unless he took the return 100 yards, he was only risking injury. A long return short of a TD wouldn't set up a FG because the clock would run out.
And, what do you know, he does get injured, possibly season-ending.
