So I watched this tonight. Not saying it wasn't mildly entertaining, nostalgic, oddly put together, etc but what the Hell was this thing about? Was there a plot here that I just missed?
Typical QT movie, his take on the Tate-Labianca murders.
If you were around back then, you may have liked the nods to old TV shows, Bruce Lee etc.
I happened to like it a lot.
I was looking for more of the random tie ins that linked characters meaningfully in say Pulp Fiction. Hard to do but it seemed a little too disjointed for me anyway.

I agree. It was fun to watch but at the end I asked the same question - was there a plot there? Still above average though IMO.
thread goes for a QT movie. But this is also how it goes for most “nominated” movies as well - a bunch love it, some say it was ok, and the rest call it “the worst movie I saw this year”.
I love QT.
While we're talking about Tarantino, he's been pretty impressive as Â
and love Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs especially. With that said, I found his most enjoyable film to be Jackie Brown. It had all the wonderful dialogue of PF and RDs but it also had a more conventional plot that I think Quentin Tarantino movies often do not have (although they do have plots they are mainly gimmicky as opposed to Jackie which was real as substantial and not gimmicky)

Notably (at least to me), Jackie Brown was QT's only film that he adapted from something someone else wrote - in this case the great Elmore Leonard's 'Rum Punch,' a fun book to read if you get your hands on it.
Funny, because during 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' I was thinking about Elmore Leonard and the way he would establish his characters and then they would go off in a direction you didn't expect. That's actually what I liked about 'Once Upon a Time' but felt the loose ends could have been tied up better.

"Except when Rick Dalton's got a fuckin' shotgun, I'll tell you that."
