was a bad pick. The correct pick in retrospect was Tunsil, but I won't criticize Reese for not taking him because of the "bong" incident, and what happened with Will Hill. The problem was not trading up for Conklin, or not trading down.

Tunsil is now a top 3 LT in the league. Most people say hes the best
Conklin is at best a replacement level player.
Tunsil got screwed because he took a pic him getting a bong hit. he wasn't doing cocaine, pills, heroin, roids. a fucking bong. not a murder suspect, drug dealer suspect, a stupid ass bong.
we should've ran up there and blessed the gods we could pick a LT that dropped over ridiculous situation. The sad thing about Tunsil was that his forte in college WAS PASS protection. Everyone knew that was his skill

You and everybody with this opinion just don't get it. The timing sucked. The NFL has this thing called drug testing. If you are in the testing for their drug program then that is a huge problem as you are constantly tested. That is a HUGE risk. Hindsight is great but when you don't have that luxury you have to make the smart decision. The news of the NFL not having him in their drug program did not come out until after we selected.
It was obvious someone had purposely leaked stuff about Tunsil, and it was proven true. This was a replay of what happened with Warren Sapp, and I couldn't believe the Giants passed on him to take an unproven Eli Apple. The media would've given the Giants a pass, as they had everyone still convinced the organization had the culture to nurture such a player.

Jerry insisted on drafting players who were "clean". In fact, when you go back and listen to the post draft interviews with Reese about individual players, he mentioned "clean" most of the time.
Knowing this, it is no surprise he did not draft Tunsil.

People who are perceived to have “character” issues. At the time ithe bong issue was viewed mor seriously than it may be today - maybe. Anyways it worked out the way it did. Another Giant bust.
Was a terrible choice back then, knowing our org, I doubt the scouting dept did a thorough job of investigating either background, and that Tunsil was clean except for a stupid video.
They’ve been crushing this guy over the past few weeks. They said initially, the team was able to scheme around his shortcomings, but recently, he’s been exposed. Not surprised.
I’m stunned that Gettleman was able to get any compensation for him at all.
The day Apple got drafted was the day I realized Giants were a mess Â
Exactly. 3 or 4 plays almost in a row to the exact same spot.
It's been a constant theme all year with him
