Position Coaches that remain from 2013

From a different site...

"Craig Johnson has been our running backs coach since 2014. The only impressive performance we've had out of our RB's since then was Barkley's rookie season, who's currently in a slump and blames it on the fact that he felt pressure to change his running style and not be himself. Guess who's job it is to manage where Barkley looks to improve?

We complain about our Linebackers (Mostly people rag on Ogletree) for being out of position. Guess what? Our Linebacker's coach has been here since 2016. Retained after McAdoo's firing.

To add onto the above, the assistant Linebacker's coach Rob Leonard has been with the Giants since 2013. So he's survived 3 different defensive coordinators.

Speaking of assistants, Ryan Roeder has been an offensive assistant since 2013. Maybe a lack of preparation on the offense as a whole can also be pointed there, since we've only had two good offensive years since?

Now that's not to say there aren't long term coaches pulling their weight. Lunda Wells has been the longest tenured coach on the Giants and is currently coaching the Tight End's, of which we've seen Kaden Smith do well and Engram considerably improve his blocking technique. Along with that, while not a positional coach Thomas McGaughey has done a great job with the special teams."

While I agree with you about coaching tenure maybe through 2 or 3 losing staffs is questionable, I wonder what an 'assistant LB coach's' responsiblities are? And I am not a fan of our linebacker play, but I blame that position on talent. The fact that we were looking at Connely as a savior is sad. Golden seems to have the talent but other than that its week.
I'm all for cleaning house, but lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater;)
Thanks! I didnt realize we kept so many coaches

I actually think change is a good thing and once a head coach goes, all the coaches should go with him.
lunda wells is probably the best out of that group

and he was assistant OL coach for a while here...

i think leonard is on the doplphins now and getting good praise.

bottom line is these guys suck, when coughlin was here we had assistants that people actually knew. Giunta, Merrit, Herrman, etc
Its really difficult to judge position coaches

because there's no way of knowing what they are charged with doing from the head coach.

And with Pat Shurmur, he seems the sort that wants to do everything himself and doesn't appear to be a great communicator with the other coaches.

There are some exceptions obviously, like Hal Hunter - who has never had any sort of success at anything ever.
One of Shurmur's biggest weaknesses

has been his ability to put together a coaching staff. He seemed caught off guard when the Vikings blocked Stefanski, and had no real plan B, which is concerning for a guy that's been around the league for a while, you would think there would be relationships there he could leverage, but that didn't seem to be the case. The end result was the GM bringing in an OC he had a relationship with, rather than one the coach did.

Even when you look at the defensive side of the ball, Shurumr had no connection to Bettcher and neither do quite a few of the assistants on the staff.

The end result is we have a coaching staff that is learning to communicate with each other on the fly, has no synergy and no shared vision. Its not a good combination when you're heavily relying on them to teach and develop young players.

So when you look at some of these coaching hold overs who under performed and ask why they're still here, its clear our current HC, OC and DC lack the connections through the league to build a staff. Say what you want about Jason Garrett (who I don't want as a HC) but he's done a good job of hiring assistants.
