NFT: WADA Bans Russia from Int'l Competitions 4 Years

ColHowPepper : 12/9/2019 2:20 pm
Includes Tokyo Olympics and 2022 WC in Qatar.

Didn't see it posted. Sochi was a farce, urine sample passed through a hold in the wall to be 'cleansed'

Who knows? Maybe Russia wins an appeal if Putin and his minions can spread intimidation.
Quote:
Russian whistleblower Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov, who was influential in initially exposing the doping cover-up, praised WADA's decision.
"Finally, Russia's many doping and obstruction sins will now get some of the punishment they richly deserve. For far too long, Russia has weaponized doping fraud and state-sponsored criminal activity as a tool of foreign policy," said Rodchenkov via his lawyer Jim Walden, in a statement sent to CNN.
"Let every corrupt nation that tries to play from Russia's illicit playbook take heed of today's monumental decision. When doping conspiracies become a crime under the Rodchenkov Anti-Doping Act, cheaters will be in U.S. prisons and clean athletes will be better protected."
RUSADA has 21 days to accept the decision or send the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Just an FYI

this does not include the hockey world juniors. Russia can still play there this month - though in the past they have had their team banned.

What is the logic behind letting them complete anyway

under the olympic flag? Wouldn't the athletes still be cheating?

I think the idea is to let any clean athletes from Russia still participate if they individually qualify under independent testing. So that individual athletes aren’t punished for the sins of their government.
"Clean athletes from Russia" (oxymoron?)

competing under independent flag was used in World T&F Competitions and Pyongyang (if not mistaken), but the testing procedures to ascertain 'clean' were similarly gamed, it appears, or is alleged by many non-Russian athletes.

NHL Network mostly. They usually show all the US games and sometimes timezone dependent others as well. In Canada probably more.
