Per Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, Nick Caserio is set to be a free agent, and he is expected to take full advantage of his freedom. Volin adds Caserio is expected to listen to all offers. Mentions the Giants & Panthers as possible suitors. |
Interesting development.
Saginaw Valley State (1999–2000)
Graduate assistant
Central Michigan (2001)
Graduate assistant
New England Patriots (2002)
Offensive coaching assistant
New England Patriots (2007)
Wide receivers coach
As executive:
New England Patriots (2001)
Personnel assistant
New England Patriots (2003)
Area scout
New England Patriots (2004–2006)
Director of pro personnel
New England Patriots (2008–present)
Director of player personnel
Very interesting that he served as NE's director of pro personnel '04-'06, then moved to WR coach in '07, then back to director of player personnel in '08.
Especially interesting is that he "continued to assist the coaching staff from the press box during games along with football research director Ernie Adams."
This is a guy that knows where the bodies are buried with how the Pats do things.

Baseless speculation, but I wonder if they're hoping to come to a team as a package.
Lynch and Shanahan pulled that in San Fran and have had a lot of success. FO and Coaches in lock step I'm sure is something Caserio has come to value in his time with NE.

Please and thank you.

I was thinking the same thing. A couple thoughts:
1. Mike Lombardi recently said John Mara fundamentally wants to hire Belichick to implement the Patriot program here, and that he should go after McDaniels. The fly in the ointment is Gettleman...McDaniels already turned the Giants down because he wasn't going to take the job with Gettleman in full GM power.
2. We know the Giants and Steelers ownership are close, and that the Steelers' long term success may help inform how Mara foresees turning this around. The Steelers have enjoyed incredible stability at GM and head coach, hiring young guys and giving them a lot of rope. Both Caserio and McDaniels are 43 years old.
It's all baseless speculation, but it beats talking about the current football team.
I am not a fan of McDaniels though.
Very interesting!
Colbert's on a year-to-year contract with Pittsburgh because he apparently wants to retire soon. This was before all of the Carolina talk. Money talks so we will see what he ends up doing.
Now if Caserio comes with Bill that's a different story. He gets a guy in Jones that may be able to run his system.

Just a question. When and where did Lombardi say that? I’d like to go read the article or listen to the podcast. Thanks!
Terps referenced the Steelers & I’ll reference the Niners. Both Shanahan & Lynch are young and seeing their vision through. I could see something similar with McDaniels & Caserio.
Thanks. Looks like I need a subscription to The Athletic for Christmas. I don’t always agree with Lombardi but I think he provides an informed opinion.

He refers to McDaniels spurning the Giants in his 12/6 "From the GM's Eye" article in The Athletic. I don't have the podcast dates for you; he's said it at least 3 times the last couple months.

It's worth the money. The soccer and hockey coverage are really good, too.
it's quite possible that this is already in the works.
Look what happened to Scott Pioli.
Either way, I'm the future GM of the Giants :)
Chris Mara is not the director of player personnel.
I fear the Caserio may be another player in the Belichick world that is better with BB than without...
I don’t know who’s right or wrong anymore and I don’t care. Wtf do I know I just argue on BBI and the team sucks. Please fix this.
McDaniels doesn’t inspire me one bit

Chris Mara is listed as Senior Vice President, Player Personnel

His actual title is VP of Player Evaluation.....and that may make him even more dangerous.

Mike Vrabel is doing a nice job in Tennessee. And people like to knock Bill O'Brien but he's had 1 losing season in 6 - the year Watson tore up his knee as a rookie. He went 9-7 three years in a row with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bobby Hoyer, and Brock Osweiler at QB.

Shit this is brilliant. 100%

Well played...that made me laugh.
Christ, what an organization...

I’d add that despite their bad record, Brian Flores has kept a Miami team devoid of talent playing hard, and they’ve shown improvement as the season has progressed.
