If Engram could be moved for a 3rd Rd pick, would you?

Ben in Tampa : 12/9/2019 7:10 pm
I was reading Dan Duggan’s game preview for tonight’s matchup and he spent some time discussing Engram, his inability to stay on the field and his trade value. Missing tonight’s game means he has essentially missed 25% of games due to injury with the Giants. (11 out of 45)

Engram’s value is at its absolute lowest, but for a player with his physical attributes, there will always be a market for him. He’s signed through 2020 with a possible fifth year option. You’d think one of the 2019 contenders would look at him as an “Get us to the finish line” type of addition for 2020.

So, first question - Do you even think Evan Engram would generate a third round offer?

Second - If the Giants could grab a third round pick, let’s say in the 70 - 95 range, would you make the deal?

I like Engram as a player, but I don’t think he’s reliable and while he is a unique weapon, he doesn’t really contribute like a traditional NFL tight end. If the Giants could restock the third pick from the Williams trade, albeit much later than they would have picked naturally, I would be for that.
at this point he just cant be counted on

yes, he would be a great weapon for Jones, but the dude is never healthy
Yep, yep sure

I could see him thriving in a place like New Orleans
Yes
BigBluesman : 12/9/2019 7:17 pm : link
hard to see him being a lasting contributor at this point. Who knows, maybe his luck would change elsewhere.
I want to see a lot more of

Kaden Smith the rest of the season. If he continues to prove himself, I'm all for trading Engram for a draft pick because he just cannot stay on the freaking field! He looks like he's made of glass; even when he plays how many times has he been slow to get up after a play. I'd drive him to the airport for a 3rd which would at least make up for the loss of their 3rd to the Jets!
No...

why would you trade a talented player for a 3rd round rookie who statistically won't be even close to the talent of Engram?

Because he can’t stay on the field.
No....

he's had health issues to date but I'd rather gamble that he stays healthy and produces than take a 3rd rounder for him.
Yes
arniefez : 12/9/2019 7:27 pm : link
He’s a big problem in the run game and doesn’t produce enough to offset it.
No
djm : 12/9/2019 7:29 pm : link
I hate giving up on players like Engram. He can play we know that already. What we don’t know is if he’s going to shed the injuries but we have him controlled here for another year. That means the giants don’t have to do anything. Many players just need that one healthy season and they never look back. Engram could be that guy.

1- who says they play the same position? 2) What has EE done to justify $$$ and long term spot? 3) He is a one trick pony and we need Some fucking work horses.
No he’s relatively cheap

I wouldn’t exercise his 5th year option though.

Bad bet. He has never played 16 games in his career. His highest production was as a rookie when he couldn't crack 800 yards.

you mean when he should have been picked?

:-)
Absolutely
Go Terps : 12/9/2019 7:37 pm : link
We should be harvesting as many picks and as much cap space as possible for what should be a new regime.
The question is whether he will earn a 2nd contract here.
Diver_Down : 12/9/2019 7:38 pm : link
If the answer is no, then move him while he has value. He has missed a ton of games affecting his production this year, but he is still under his rookie contract with the deadline to elect the 5th year option this coming May. Let the next team make that decision. If we can get a 3rd, take it.

He is a one dimensional player at a position that requires the player to block and catch passes. He gives great effort in trying to block, but he is terrible. He is strictly a pass catching TE. He isn't a WR no matter how often BBI wants to move him out. As a pass catching TE, he isn't that great. Too many drops; Too often injured; Never a match-nightmare despite BBI claiming such every year.

He will always be Evan "Not Ramczyk" Engram.

I was hoping we could package EE...
bw in dc : 12/9/2019 7:42 pm : link
at the trade deadline. Health has always been an issue for him. But for some inexplicable reason we were buyers, not sellers.

So we should listen to some offers. Maybe we get something that's very worthwhile. If nothing happens, and EE is healthy, there is still a good chance he produces at a pretty high rate...
For a 3rder, I'd help

him pack....well not really.

Yes I do that.
Mostly because he's going to cost money moving forward
adamg : 12/9/2019 7:46 pm : link
That'd be the reason to trade him.

Thunderstruck27 : 12/9/2019 7:48 pm : link
Liability as a blocker(TE's are expected to block), can't stay on the field, drops a ton of balls.
Yeah he has big play potential. Not really what I need out of a TE. Need someone who can block and make clutch catches when called upon.
Absolutely.
Silver Spoon : 12/9/2019 7:49 pm : link
You never give up on talent, unless they’re constantly injured, can’t block, and drop way too many passes. I would take a 4th or 5th for this chump.

Currently in the roster? Granted, you can strike gold with rookie TEs. But that's another hole we'll need to fill.

in mind that there were reports that teams were offering a 1st rounder for him about a month ago.

Who is coaching the team next year
Biteymax22 : 12/9/2019 8:03 pm : link
Shurmur or a Shurmur type that has no ability to exploit a player like Engram’s talents, trade him.

If we bring in a creative mind that excels at taking advantage of his players individual abilities, Engram can be one heck of a weapon. He needs the right coach, we don’t have it right now.

I'm going to say NO but only because when he is healthy he is

a mis-match for most all LB's and Safeties. I pray he plays well the last 3 games. If it is a very high 3rd I would consider it given we don't have a 3rd rounder but still I'd be really, really careful here.

Said it at the time he was drafted.

He’s just not the type of guy I’d build an offense around. If someone offered a first the Giants were crazy not to jump on that.

No. We have to stop jettisoning our players

if we're to be competitive. There are not enough draft picks or cap to replace everybody we get rid of, even if they do have weaknesses.

Getting rid of our defensive linemen time after time caused us to continually use draft picks on the same position. We have to stop that.
You would have to play

Is so gung ho about trading away talent. That’s why we’re in this damn shitty situation to begin with: lack of talent. Then everyone wants to complain as to why we don’t have talent, because you mf’er keep wanting to trade away what little bit we do have. Stop this shit man smdh
