Draft order (after NYG loss to PHI)

ray in arlington : 12/9/2019 11:54 pm
If the Giants go 2-14, they pick top 2. If they finish 3-13 they pick top 3 (almost certainly top 2).
If they finish 4-12 they pick top 7. If they finish 5-11 they almost certainly pick top 9.

1. CIN 1-12 clinched picking behind NYG in case of a tie
2. NYG 2-11
3. WAS 3-10 clinched picking behind NYG in case of a tie (see below for explanation)
4. MIA 3-10 (-7) ##
5. DET 3-9-1*
6. ARI 3-9-1*
7. JAC 4-9 (-4)
8. ATL 4-9 clinched picking behind NYG in case of a tie
9. NYJ 5-8 (-4) #
10. LAC 5-8 (-10.5) ##

DEN and CAR are 5-8 but have clinched picking behind NYG

## almost certainly pick behind NYG in case of a tie.
# likely to pick behind NYG in case of a tie
* NYG or DET or ARI would have to play a tie game for this tie to occur

In this listing, ties are broken using the stregth of schedule (SOS) based on the current records of all 16 opponents (division opponents count twice).
Lower SOS picks earlier. The NFL puts out draft order that doesn't include an opponents record in a team's SOS until that team plays that opponent.

TIEBREAK WITH WAS

The first tiebreaker for draft order is strength of schedule, not head-to-head. This is according to the NFL ops website.
The tiebreak was decided by the 2 non-common opponents:

NYG: ARI, TB. Have 9.5 wins (16.5 losses). There's only 6 more wins these teams can get.
WAS: CAR, SF. Have 16 wins (10 losses).

TIEBREAK WITH MIA

Excluding common opponents:

Giants opps have 54 wins. There are 8 automatic pickups in future games, giving them 62. They have 12 possible pickups.
Miami opps have 61 wins. There are 9 automatic pickups in future games, giving them 70. They have 9 possible pickups.

ray can you break down the the tie break with jacksonville
mphbullet36 : 12/9/2019 11:57 pm : link
if the giants get to 4-12 and Jacksonville losses out I see that the only team that could threaten them for a tiebreak scenario.

My scenario if Mia, Was, us, and JAX all are 4-12 we would pick in front of Mia and Was obviously. And lets assume both Det and Ari pick up one more win and 4-11-1

whats the scenario with Jacksonville?
So basically
Leg of Theismann : 12/9/2019 11:58 pm : link
As long as we don't win 2 of our last 3 (or win all 3) we're essentially guaranteed to pick #2 or higher (barring some unlikely scenario with the Phins).

I got into the game tonight and really wanted to see Eli walk out with a W, but after tonight I just don't care anymore.

Yes you're correct. If we go 1-2 we're basically guaranteed a top 2 pick.

Obviously I liked your playoff seeding ones better, but clearly been a few years since we've had those.

Can't believe we still have 3 games left

Excluding the common games (there are only 2)

The fourteen Giants opponents have 85 wins.
The fourteen Jacksonville opponents have 89 wins.

Given the number of opponents involved this is still up for grabs. Note that Jax would have to lose 2 games to end up in a tie with the Giants so you can add 2 wins to Jax's total.

thats just huge

lets get these losses out of the way now...then we can root to knock the eagles out of the playoffs on the last game of the year

correct so in theory if its a 4-12 tiebreaker they essentially have to make up 6 games vs us. Which will be tough to do.
I want the #1 pick.
Tom in NY : 12/10/2019 12:12 am : link
Gives the Giants the opportunity to trade back to #2 (for a team looking for a QB), still pick Young, and regain some of the picks lost in the Williams trade.
They need to come out of this draft with at least Young, a starting OT, and a ILB, to go with Connelly.

i agree #1 would give us an opportunity for that. that being said, we can go after schobert or littelton in Free agency to play next to connelly and be set there after drafting young and bringing back golden and williams.

the picks we recoup in a potential move down, we should look to go OL and FS.

for example.

lets say we

sign
schobert/littleton
conklin

resign
golden
williams

have #1

trade #1 to cincy for #2 and their 3rd and a 2021 2nd or maybe cincys 4th.

We then go

C Young
Biadasz
becton(pick from cincy)

to me. that first three is IDEAL and would allow us to add two future pieces to the OL.

Hoping they get Young in R1. Then, they need 2 starting caliber OT's, an ILB, a Center, another WR (Tates old, Shep can't stay healthy), a veteran corner, and a back to spell Saquon all in the draft/FA

you highly overrate the needs of this team.

they have connelly coming back, i do agree they need an ILB so they prob get that in FA. they dont need a vet corner. they have jenkins for another year. l;et the young kids play. we dont need a WR. we go with tate/shep/slayton and be perfectly fine. a center would be great as would an OT in draft and in FA. i dont think they need another RB.

With Shep's concussion history and Tate's age (he could fall off a cliff soon) we definitely need a WR. Hopefully we land another mid rounder like Slayton. I'm thinking Quintez Cephus of Wisconsin round 5...
Slayton is a unicorn

I don't expect to find another late rounder like him again.
Still would like a bruising back to wear out the D for SB instead of saving a roster spot for Tanney.

Why not? It's a great receiving class. There will be good WRs available late.

Not specifically #2, because they can still get #1 after this weekend (would require CIN win over NE, though)

To clinch top 2 would need

MIA win over NYG
WAS win over PHI
ARI win over CLE
DET win over TB

and 2 out of a set of 4 games relating to the SOS tiebreaker.

I think it's almost impossible to overrate this team's needs, they are pretty much dreadful across the board. Need ERs badly, several OL, FS, TE, WR, LB and maybe another CB.
Amen
David B. : 12/10/2019 9:16 am : link
Great to see Eli look good, but the last thing this team needs now is to win their way out of the top 2. It was like this with the Barkley draft, too.

If I know the Giants, they'll either screw this up or it will be a nail-biter till the bitter end.

No way we get break and breathe easy, early.
We need the 1st pick
TommyWiseau : 12/10/2019 9:22 am : link
So we can gouge whomever wanta Burrow (hopefully Cincy) for more picks. We need to draft 2 to 3 offensive lineman and get a premier edge rusher

We are talking about the Bengals. Speak to my friends in Cincinnati and they believe if the owners have a chance to screw up the 1st pick... they will.

You do NOT want to take your chances relying on the Bengals.

And yes, the early stuff about them drafting young and waiting on the QB until the next round has been out there.

I can totally see a scenario where if Tua drops, they trade back into the 1st round to draft him or get him with the first pick in the 2nd round and take Young.

Be prepared for all situations.
This is the same thing
ryanmkeane : 12/10/2019 9:51 am : link
when people said Cleveland might not take a QB and they'd go Barkley or trade the pick or something. Bengals are taking a QB. They hired a young new offensive coach, and don't have a franchise quarterback, and they will have the top pick in a nice QB draft. The GM would and should be fired on the spot if they didn't take the best quarterback available. Plain and simple.
Bengals
Archer : 12/10/2019 10:02 am : link
If the Bengals select Young with the first pick I would be upset, but, it offers an opportunity for the Giants.

Burrow will be in great demand. The Giants could trade down with Miami, and get another first and a third.

They would still get a premiere player in Miami's first draft slot.

I advocated at the time that the Browns should take Barkley first and then there would still be a QB at #4. I believe my opinion has been vindicated.
And then, who knows, maybe we would have taken Darnold!

Same here. The Giants need some star power on defense.

But if Young isn’t available a trade down must be mandatory. The extra picks would provide the opportunity to add some LB talent and shore up the OL.

Isaiah Simmons might be a better fit than Chase Young for our 3-4 defense? I would not be unhappy with him as our 1st round selection.
