What is wrong with him? Seriously - he wasn't this bad in NE, he couldn't have been because he would never have gotten an offer if he was. I'm not saying he was great in NE either, but certainly considered solid.
But tonight, with TE help, he was still just getting demolished. He's been Flowers-esque. How can one guy regress this badly? Is he hurt? Is it the coaching or scheme? Have other teams figured out something about him that the Pats were able to hide? Has he lost all technique?
I honestly do not understand what is going on with this situation, but it is crippling the team in terms of his play and cap number to get rid of him. It's one thing to blame DG for overpaying, but he overpaid an average or pretty good player, not this turd burger. So, can anyone explain this situation?
he sucks
?
maybe he got Hal Huntered?
But, Giants missed on Norwell and the talent on the line was so bad that overpaying for a guy they hoped could be average at LT became a necessary evil.
just bad decisionmaking
Solder has had a couple of bad plays per game, but Flowers, Eli always had to get rid of the ball in under 3 seconds to hep him out. It's not even debatable.
Simonson was destroying Curry of the line and leaving a flatfooted Curry to Solder who still whiffed.
They took a below average player and handed him a top tier salary, which is about as bad a mistake as you can make.
It's also possible the guy is banged up, and that the coaching here has taken below average and pushed it down a notch, but when you start at the middle it's really not too hard to hit bottom.
In New England, with that team and that coach, he would have been embarrassed to play as badly as he plays for the Giants. With the Giants, what does it matter. He'll be remembered for his play with the Patriots.
And he can always come up with a story that he was playing through some injury with the Giants.
I will not say he's worse than Flowers, that guy had some of the worst technique I've ever seen.
But I can also say my friend who's a Skins fan says EF has been serviceable at guard.

I have a relative who has gone even further, saying Flowers has been.....GOOD....at guard!!! Imagine that.

...except New England made him a big offer, just quite as much as the Giants...so how bad could he have been?
No doubt, the Giants overpaid for him...but they were desperate and that leads to mistakes.
Probably the single biggest mark against Gettelman is this signing, and that’s saying something. He’s stealing money
DG's hands were tied and was forced to offer him that deal.
Right?

And wanting Norwell at LG, and a LT in R2...i kept hearing from Pats fans how awful he was in his final year there, a complete liability if Brady didn't get the ball out of his hand under 2.5 seconds. And he was already 30 years old, not like he was gonna get any better.

Yeah, that gets thrown around - but there was nothing to substantiate the offer that NE gave him. They had plenty of cap room. They had an aging Brady. If they wanted Solder, they'd have kept him. Instead he walked, they plugged in his replacement and didn't skip a beat.
But he’s gonna turn it around by god! He just needs time!
Let's not go crazy.

I agree 100%! And watching him block the DE with help from the TE is like watching The Keystone Cops!
Nah, NE really misses Trent Brown. They are having their own issues this year. They just have a ridiculous defense and QB to overcome that.
