Nate Solder - What is going on?

Daniel in MI : 12/10/2019 12:01 am
What is wrong with him? Seriously - he wasn't this bad in NE, he couldn't have been because he would never have gotten an offer if he was. I'm not saying he was great in NE either, but certainly considered solid.

But tonight, with TE help, he was still just getting demolished. He's been Flowers-esque. How can one guy regress this badly? Is he hurt? Is it the coaching or scheme? Have other teams figured out something about him that the Pats were able to hide? Has he lost all technique?

I honestly do not understand what is going on with this situation, but it is crippling the team in terms of his play and cap number to get rid of him. It's one thing to blame DG for overpaying, but he overpaid an average or pretty good player, not this turd burger. So, can anyone explain this situation?
Was boosted by being on Pats

is a better tackle than Solder.
please dont go that far

but he aint right

maybe he got Hal Huntered?
He's auditioning for the Keystone Cops
Torrag : 12/10/2019 12:03 am : link
Got tangled up with two different TE's trying to double Curry. Both result in drive ending sacks. Then let's a nobody just run right by him untouched for another.

He’s stealing from Big Blue like no other I can recall! Tonight was downright embarrassing!
He made Flowers look good today
Giantz_comeback : 12/10/2019 12:03 am : link
This was an epic fail performance by him. He single handedly destroyed many plays on offense for us.
Simonson was “ helping “ and actually made it worse
Rjanyg : 12/10/2019 12:03 am : link
Nate got tripped on one play by Simonson, the other time Curry got pushed wide by Simonson when he just need to chip him, and Solder got out of position.
I
AcidTest : 12/10/2019 12:04 am : link
would try Gates or Slade.
I remember not wanting him in FA

And wanting Norwell at LG, and a LT in R2...i kept hearing from Pats fans how awful he was in his final year there, a complete liability if Brady didn't get the ball out of his hand under 2.5 seconds. And he was already 30 years old, not like he was gonna get any better.

But, Giants missed on Norwell and the talent on the line was so bad that overpaying for a guy they hoped could be average at LT became a necessary evil.
he has some kind of ankle injury
japanhead : 12/10/2019 12:05 am : link
i dont know why they don't sit him at this point though. its kind of like when they kept running barkley into the line repeatedly week after week after he came back early from the ankle injury and it was clear he wasn't right.

just bad decisionmaking

And tragically......
thrunthrublue : 12/10/2019 12:05 am : link
At his current salary, he is getting paid about 40 grand for every block he misses! We are also paying shurmur........to lose!!!!!!
Flowers was never as bad as Solder has been
eclipz928 : 12/10/2019 12:06 am : link
and I think the their actual numbers regarding penalties, pressures and sacks allowed bear that out.
Solder has been bad, but cmon,
barens : 12/10/2019 12:06 am : link
he has in no way been Flowers bad. Some people here have the shortest memory.

Solder has had a couple of bad plays per game, but Flowers, Eli always had to get rid of the ball in under 3 seconds to hep him out. It's not even debatable.

Simonson was destroying Curry of the line and leaving a flatfooted Curry to Solder who still whiffed.
Solder was never more than average in NE
jcn56 : 12/10/2019 12:08 am : link
you had to factor in the NE coaching, in particular to make OL look better than they are, and figure when he walked away he'd be a below average player.

They took a below average player and handed him a top tier salary, which is about as bad a mistake as you can make.

It's also possible the guy is banged up, and that the coaching here has taken below average and pushed it down a notch, but when you start at the middle it's really not too hard to hit bottom.
Something is wrong with his lower leg I think.
BlueLou'sBack : 12/10/2019 12:09 am : link
No quickness in the turn, slide kick, and balance issues to boot.
bench him and halapio

The way I see it, the guy already has a collection of

Super Bowl rings. He gets a big payday to go to the Giants. The Giants are out of contention by week three and he just doesn't put in the effort he has to in practice or games to play as well as he did in New England.

In New England, with that team and that coach, he would have been embarrassed to play as badly as he plays for the Giants. With the Giants, what does it matter. He'll be remembered for his play with the Patriots.

And he can always come up with a story that he was playing through some injury with the Giants.
If is leg is hurt, they
Daniel in MI : 12/10/2019 12:17 am : link
need to sit him down. And yes, it seemed helping with a TE made it worse. What kind of coaching is allowing that to happen? Man, it is incredible how bad he's been. Maybe it's true and Brady and the Pats hid a lot of faults.

I will not say he's worse than Flowers, that guy had some of the worst technique I've ever seen.

But I can also say my friend who's a Skins fan says EF has been serviceable at guard.
'bench him and halapio'
Torrag : 12/10/2019 12:20 am : link
Maybe would have made a difference if they did it when they should have in Week 6. Way too fucking late now.

I have a relative who has gone even further, saying Flowers has been.....GOOD....at guard!!! Imagine that.
I don't doubt that Hunter is a lousy coach
Greg from LI : 12/10/2019 12:30 am : link
But c'mon - a veteran like Solder just completely falls apart as a player because of his position coach? Are you kidding me?

...except New England made him a big offer, just quite as much as the Giants...so how bad could he have been?

No doubt, the Giants overpaid for him...but they were desperate and that leads to mistakes.

Nate Solder sucked.
Worse than Flowers ever was
Kyle in NY : 12/10/2019 12:37 am : link
As responsible for the loss as any single player tonight. The flea flicker is a TD if he just handles his block

Probably the single biggest mark against Gettelman is this signing, and that’s saying something. He’s stealing money
Not sure I understand all the questions. Recall hearing Solder
Jimmy Googs : 12/10/2019 12:49 am : link
was the only option to play LT for the Giants.

DG's hands were tied and was forced to offer him that deal.

Right?

Yeah, that gets thrown around - but there was nothing to substantiate the offer that NE gave him. They had plenty of cap room. They had an aging Brady. If they wanted Solder, they'd have kept him. Instead he walked, they plugged in his replacement and didn't skip a beat.
Who cares at this point
Dave in PA : 12/10/2019 12:53 am : link
3 more games to get through then he can be jettisoned with a lot of other dead weight holding this franchise in the cellar
What’s going on?

The Giants genius GM gave him an enormous contract and, he blows more dick than Jenna Jameson.

But he’s gonna turn it around by god! He just needs time!

I agree 100%! And watching him block the DE with help from the TE is like watching The Keystone Cops!

Nah, NE really misses Trent Brown. They are having their own issues this year. They just have a ridiculous defense and QB to overcome that.
Awful scouting
Metnut : 12/10/2019 9:05 am : link
by our awful GM. If you're going to sign a veteran for big money from the Pats, you better damn well make sure that he was driving their system rather than vice versa. Gettleman failed at this and it's cost us dearly the past few years.
I would sum it up as
Dankbeerman : 12/10/2019 9:06 am : link
Solder gets beat a lot but Flowers got beat constantly. Its a toss up when you through in the money paid. Time to put him on the bench.

Slow physically and mentally. Lacks talent.
