it is infuriating that after Gettleman's revamping of the whole scouting department it is at best suspect.
Who are these scouts and evaluators of talent that are crucial to bringing superior talent to this team? I don't know do you? My take is that they are woeful at their jobs.
I believe there has to be be a serious upgrade to the personnel that do this vital function. If the Giants are to be winners again these people have to be very strong at there jobs. If not we will always be mired in football hell.
Bingo. There is good young talent on the team. That fact that they haven't progressed fast enough or as a cohesive unit is coaching.
Look at the Miami Dolphins. They also gutted their team but have managed to win some games and look competitive down the stretch. They clearly have better coaching.
Really? Where have you seen this pole of opposing scouts that think the Giants are "so talented"?
Yes, the coaching sucks and so does the clown who assembled this team.
The players looked confused on that play. This is week 14 and the players on defense are still confused. A couple of players have voiced similar concerns throughout the year. That is all coaching.
I've read a few posters mention this supposed complete transformation of the scouting operation, but I just don't see it.

They changed the methodology of how they grade and rank players and looked for football instincts over physical traits. That’s why we drafted Connelly and Slayton. Why fire 20 and 30 yr nfl scouts to hire some good scouts in the college ranks just to start the process over?? That’s like firing all your 20 and 30 yr 8IT professionals after they constantly recommend you update your server and hardware
And due to injuries, you know he is the only viable receiving option on the field and the Eagels are absolutely going to throw to him. Booger of all people even said during the game that the Giants should double/triple team him because that is their only option in the passing game.
Yet, he runs wide open on that last play.
How many teams wished they had drafted Daniel Jones?
There have been times when this scouting department has been miles ahead of everyone else in the NFL.
I’ve literally never heard this said by anyone. In fact i constantly hear the opposite.
Work out the rookie mistakes this year....as the physical talent looks good.
Replace Bethea with Peppers.
Prior to getting tired ....the DL looked great.....WITHOUT LBers.
Get Chase, hopefully Connerly comes back...replace Olgetree....could be.pretty good

Most of the scouts are the same ones that were here under Reese (and Accorsi), and Chris Mara is still in place. DG promoted Chris Pettit, fired Marc Ross, and claimed to make some changes to the way they stack their draft board (but we don't know the before/after on that to any significant degree). Other than that, what were the changes?

I was going to mention that but figured it was going to fall on deaf ears. Slayton gets thrown in there because he's working out as a promising rookie, but on scouting alone, he's very much the type of prospect that Reese would have picked.
The change in scouting is purely lip service. The Giants prioritize seemingly intangible things every so often (like the draft where every single player was a captain of his college team); this isn't something that is new due to the DG regime.

It’s never all about physical traits, if so why didn’t they draft Emmanuel Hall, he’s an inch taller, 10 lbs bigger, longer arms, 3 inches higher on the vert, 10 inches more on broad jump and ran the same 40, had much better stats with Drew Lock throwing to him as well. Maybe, just maybe, the Giants did their homework and made a decision on who is the better football player, not who’s the better athlete.
Baker
Love
Hernandez
Slayton
Beal or Ballentine too early to tell but there's been flashes from both.
Williams of course.
Engram if he could stay healthy for 14 games at least.
There's some talent on this team.
Was every one of Reese's picks the top triangle number guy on the board at his position when he was drafted?
I can find dozens of examples where the Giants took the guy with supposedly lesser physical traits throughout the Reese era, so that's not something unique to DG that can be absolutely attributed to a change in scouting.

But the difference is he did it in the fifth round... Reese took 3 years in a row of first round projects, Apple, flowers, and Engram. And that decision is largely why we fckin suck right now. Choosing Baker over Greedy was clearly an instincts over measurables choice. Greedy has not looked good either.
How many pro bowlers are the norm per draft?
Starters are a more common metric and the results in that area seem promising (Jones, Barkley, Lawrence, Slayton, Hernandez, Connelly all appear to be starting level talents and several others are at least rotation players who have a shot - Love, Baker, Hill, Ballentine, Carter, Ximines, Beal).

Name me a Giant other than Barkley who has the potential to be an All-Pro, or even a Pro Bowler. Dexter Lawrence, perhaps. Who else?

Beal and Williams? Baker?
Love has played like two games.
Take the giants colored glasses off man.
THIS team is underperforming their talent level.
Well, he must be referring to some of the Giants' players as being good, no?
