the writing is on the wall to bring in Rivera

Andy in Boston : 12/10/2019 9:09 am
He and Gettleman have worked well in the past.

McCaughey can keep Special Teams.

Shula can keep offense.

Rivera can rebuild defense....and has run both 4-3 and 3-4 schemes. He'll bring in a new defensive staff.

Rivera's family lives in NJ& gt;

There are some key available UFA's that Rivera can bring in. Darryl Williams at Tackle and James Bradberry a veteran CB who Rivera drafted.

Does this not make too much sense?

Shurmur has been a complete failure.
Thanks

don't think this has been discussed yet.
No on Shula
Giantz_comeback : 12/10/2019 9:11 am : link
No,no,no.

We need to bring in Turner to make this marriage work.

He did well with a rookie non-descript Qb for a while as well as really took advantage of McCaffery who is a 2 way back like Barkley.

I doNT want Shula
5BowlsSoon : 12/10/2019 9:12 am : link
I want Carolinas OC. He knows how to get the ball to his great RB. Shula knows nothing.

A simple response yet it caused me to spit coffee.
Is Mara going to come out and use the same speech he did
figgy2989 : 12/10/2019 9:13 am : link
and say the "team is broken right now" and keep DG on just like he did Reese?

This would be a half measure. The team has gotten worse since DG got here with no light at the end of the tunnel. You hire a new GM (preferably someone who has no ties to the Giants organization) and let him hire his new Coach/Staff.
yeah, baby, run that Panthers blueprint!

Maybe we could achieve the lofty heights of 5-8 too!

No, no, these are fruits we must not dream of.
I don’t want Shula back
Jay on the Island : 12/10/2019 9:20 am : link
He wasn’t even Shurmur’s first choice for OC he was the 3rd option. They should bring in an established OC like Jay Gruden or John DeFelippo if he doesn’t receive a HC job.

You mean the lofty heights of 4 playoffs in 8 seasons? Or maybe a SB appearance? Or perhaps multiple division championships?
4 playoffs in 8 seasons.....really isn't anything special
Greg from LI : 12/10/2019 9:24 am : link
Particularly when you consider that one of those four came after a 7-8-1 season.

Jim Fassel made a Super Bowl and won a Coach of the Year award too - wanna hire him?
Fine
David B. : 12/10/2019 9:28 am : link
But I don't want them making any changes till the season's over.

I want one of the first two draft picks.

he's a proven winner and you can compare his record against other proven NFL head coaches and there aren't many better. Most franchises would take 4 playoff appearances in 8 years....you wouldn't? Not everyone can be the Patriots.
And we're back to "You could do worse"

I neither agree nor disagree. But Greg I have not seen you post which direction you would like to go (I'm sure you have but I have not specifically seen it).

Who do you like for FO and coaching staff?
How different did our offense look in the first half with Eli?
Rjanyg : 12/10/2019 9:40 am : link
I thought the line played well and Eli was decisive.

Barkley ran hard and we actually have a FB.

Agreed. It's either Bellicheck or riots.

Your move Mr. Mara

I've answered this question each of the multiple times you've asked it. It's not my fault that you never bother reading the answer.
No back to back winning

seasons in a decade? He'd fit right in here.

How about we fire Gettleman and do a full-on search rather than just conveniently hiring someone with connections to our failed GM.

If getting Rivera

means keeping Shula then that's a big FUCK NO from me.

Haha, you expect a reasonable answer?
unless Shula

is being bottled up like an untapped genie, just say NO.

Obviously, the search should seek out the best available option. If that is Rivera, so be it. They aren't going ignore someone they think is a better option. Opinions on whether DG/Mara can identify the best option may vary. But 'we could do worse' is valid when the worse is keeping PS.
I don't get the Rivera love,

is this really where some of you have you sights set on? I don't get it. BTW, anyone watch the series All of Nothing on Amazon? Showed the Panthers last season, and I remember thinking Rivera seemed like a painfully average coach.

I think he's a good coach. My problem is that he's the kind of guy I would have wanted instead of Shurmur (hindsight). Now having seen Shurmur I want someone younger and more innovative. As much as our defense sucks we invested heavily in our offense and don't have much to show for it. We need someone to do what Shurmur can't and hire a good DC so that there's a good separation of power.

Agree with this. If not Turner then someone else. No to Shula.

They also need to shoot higher than Williams and Bradbury. There looks to be much better quality available in FA worth spending on.

+1. DG might agree to hire him, but I think it's another average coach and uninspired hire.
pathetic state of affairs
fkap : 12/10/2019 10:35 am : link
that while a good coach is preferred, an average one would be a welcome upgrade.

you can't convince me 8-8 wouldn't be met with ecstasy. mediocre would have had us in the division hunt.

another swing and a miss will be sheer agony, so I can certainly understand if DG/Mara go a safe route. We've been horrible so long, mediocrity looks good to fans and businessmen alike.
coaches I would be interested in
Greg from LI : 12/10/2019 10:48 am : link
Greg Roman
Robert Saleh
Dan Campbell is growing on me
Lincoln Riley, not that there's a chance in hell of that

I'm not a huge Matt Rhule advocate, but I'd rather him than Rivera.

OC and QB Coach. Shula is not that.

For those who don't understand the Rivera love I don't understand the Rivera hate. I would be happy with a winning season about every other year. Hell even 7-9 looks pretty good to me right now.

Rivera's record with the Panthers:

2011 6-10
2012 7-9
2013 12-4
2014 7-8-1
2015 15-1 lost Super Bowl
2016 6-10
2017 11-5 lost wild card
2018 7-9
2019 5-7

Total 76-63-1 Win% 0.546

Giants record same period:

2011 9-7 Coughlin Won Superbowl
2012 9-7 Coughlin
2013 7-9 Coughlin
2014 6-10 Coughlin
2015 6-10 Coughlin
2016 11-5 McAdoo- lost wild card
2017 3-13 McAdoo
2018 5-11 Shurmur
2019 2-11 Shurmur

Total 58-83 Win% 0.411

His defense is becoming atrocious again this year. Have you seen their scores of late? Teams seem to be scoring much easier against them as the season wears on.
