Granted Young plays most of his downs with his hand in the dirt, but I was watching his game against Penn State last night (I needed to console myself after the debacle I had just witnessed), and I noticed that most of his damage was done off the edge where he was able to use his amazing speed and athleticism.
I post this because the narrative I've been hearing around here and on the Draft Network is that he's a "prototypical" 4-3 DE because he's such a technician with his hands and has a rare speed-to-power transition. While this is true, I think he will be at his most effective standing up and rushing the passer where he can use his quickness and elite first step to get around the OT and get to the QB.
Can't wait for Sy's take.
Giants have basically abandoned the 3-4 anyway. And with Bettcher almost certainly getting canned, Giants will probably become a 4-3 defense
add chase young. add an ILB to play next to connelly and resign golden and williams and you have a pretty nice front 7.

I have seen him drop into coverage and look very natural, so that shouldn't be an issue.
He was asked to do that quite a bit. I think Schiano did that a lot with him last year.
Based on what?

Like that line up, with Hill, Carter Ximines in reserve that is solid and deep.
His build. He's a full-size DE who is playing DE for OSU.

"A full-size DE." What does that even mean?
And you realize that 4-3 DEs become 3-4 ERs all the time, right? Hell, when Clowney was drafted he played 4-3 exclusively, but when he got to Houston he was asked to stand up.
Mario Williams thrives in Wade Phillips’ 3-4 scheme and so can Young.
That is not the case. He's a 6'5" 270# DE that absolutely could play OLB. But it's not his ideal position IMO - he's clearly a true DE.
