Let’s assume the Giants pick 2nd and the Bengals select Burrow with the #1 pick.
The general consensus has been the “race for Chase” and that Young is the best overall player in the draft. An even better player than Nick Bosa who could come in and be an immediate transformational player for the Giants.
Young is particularly attractive because the Giants defense has been comically terrible for several years. The counter point to that is that the offensive line has been just as putrid for a decade. Nate Solder, when considering contract and performance, may be one of the worst free agent signings in NFL history.
Georgia's Andrew Thomas looks to a complete prospect: big, strong, an agile pass protector and a powerful run blocker.
You could argue left tackle is as premium of a position in the NFL as a pass rusher, however the Giants faithful has been more enamored with Young than Thomas.
So if the Giants have there choice, would it make more sense to draft a left tackle that could protect Daniel Jones for a decade? Or is the right move to go with Chase and try to build the defense around a dominant young superstar?
This.
How was the Barkley pick bad? The guy has been playing with a high ankle sprain all year, he probably should even be out there. Jones to me looks better than Darnold and he’s a year younger. Gettleman’s drafts have been light years better than the crap Reese was putting together. I mean look at his 5th rounders this year. Slayton looks like a steal as does Connelly who unfortunately got hurt.
Hopefully there will be a good LT at the top of the 2nd. But either way I'd take Young.
However, as I've stated, they will have to listen to the offers to move up. A truly impressive draft and/or player haul also has to be considered. But at 2, if we stay at 2, there is no question who the pick should be, no wiggle room at all for anyone else to enter that conversation.
Not a fan after watching 3 games now latter part of the season
Maybe not the best sample set but I think there is a wide gap in picking one of those 2 in terms of impact
Thomas to me isnt' the best LT and to be drafted that high..it would need to be a lock which he is not
Go young or go home. Or like some idiots like the talking heads are saying...pick a QB :-)
I would also trade down if we get a call about another club falling in love with a QB
We need too many spots to not go after more 1st and 2nd draft capital
Thats if DG is not our GM
I would then choose Burrows and trade that pick (like the Eli for Rivers trade) and make sure Bengals don’t get Burrows!

and the Bengals will make us believe they're trading #1 to a team that wants Chase. So we'll trade up to #1 giving up our 2nd rounder.
This.
LMFAO. no shot this happens. you guys are paranoid as hell. we stay at #2 and take young, if he goes #1 and we cant find a partner to trade, then we take wirfs or thomas.
He is double teamed yet he cannot be stopped
Conversely, I doubt that Thomas will be the first tackle taken
Wirf and Jackson may be better left tackles
I prefer also Simmons, and Esperanza to Thomas
Take Young and don’t look back. If he’s gone trade down.
I would not trade down and miss out on Young. He’s the kind of prospect that a team would trade multiple 1’s for after a few years in the league.
If Young is there, take him. If Young is taken #1, trade down to a team that wants Burrow and get a king's ransom.
How's that working for them?

They won't get away with that because Burrow is too hot a commodity. If they trade down they'll lose him.
Either get the OT in FA or high in the 2nd round.
But they’re in qb hell and won’t ever get a good enough draft pick to fix it. The amount of competition for qb’s for the next 3 years will be at an all time high with Eli, Ben, and rivers phasing out. Hopefully they get lucky with a Jacob Eason/Jalen Hurts type later in the draft
I would be comfortable drafting Wirfs third overall, to me, he’s that good and will get even better.
Don't worry, once Shurmur and Bettcher get through coaching Young up,he'll forget how to play like the rest of our players.

If the Bengals try and fool them to trade up, call their bluff. They either take the QB and the Giants take Young anyway, or the Bengals take Young, and the Giants take bids for the QB and get a boatload of picks.
Having said that, if there's no Ogden level LT, take the gamewrecker.
Precisely. I think he's good, but overrated. I'd say there are at least 3 LTs in this draft who are more promising.
If that does happen, we'll have plenty of offers from teams who want their QB
Take Chase Young or trade pick for someone who wants Young.
If Young goes #1
Then trade the pick to someone who wants Burrows (Miami?).
Should get either Young or a good haul either way.

Left unsaid but not needed to be said:
Unless his legs fall off between now and the draft, you take Young wherever you can grab him.
