I couldn’t tell if it was a drop or not but it was a critical 3rd down. No one has mentioned it. It looked a drop. And did the Philly secondary have any PI’s called against them?
A year in the weight room and not allowing yourself to get knocked around on his break will help.
He's good on the comeback and go routes, just needs to be strong coming across the field and he'll be hard to cover.
could have been 1st or 2nd half as I don't remember, but on 3rd and 4 he runs a 3 yard in and has the ball knocked away. Even if he catches it no first down.
Who calls a 5 yard in to a guy who was blowing by defenders all night. They couldn’t stay with him. Ridiculous.
Look, Shurmur sucks, but it's not because of this. "Just throw deep all the time" is about as smart as anything you hear from fans watching the game at Applebees.

To be fair, I didn't say "just throw deep all the time"...
I said don't throw a 5 yard in to a guy who was blowing by guys all night.
I get your point, but look at Slaytons 1st half, gotta ride that horse.
Shurmur sucks cause of exactly this - You have Tate who can't outrun my grandma to run the short patterns. Or any of the 2 PS Tight Ends Eli decided to pass to all 2nd half.
Maybe motion Slayton, idk...any number of things to get him a free release. Shurmur sucks.
have been consistent on throwing a pass short of the first down stick on 3rd down for years. Even under the previous coach this was a thing. It is why I grew tired of Eli years ago. He could not run for it and we threw short of the first down marker way too often. Punt!
Throwing short of the sticks makes perfect sense Â
- you’ve schemed to get the player space, via pick or rub plays, so he has a real chance to get a first down
- you have schemed to get a matchup where your guy is faster and more athletic and can run away from the defender(s) to get a first
- there is a hole in the zone there, and you have schemed multiple routes to open the hole it wide enough to plausibly get the first before the defenders can collapse on the receiver
- you have no choice due to pressure, you’re backed up and ready to concede the punt to avoid a big error, etc.
Our problems seem to have guys run short routes, against faster defender, often catching the ball stopping facing the QB, and are easily converged on or closed on by the defender. It’s maddening.
And, as a corollary, we can neither run a successful screen, nor defend a screen against us. It must be something in practice - the incompetent force vs the bumbling object
Looked to me like he was drapped in v good coverage... Â

We were second and three and I am thinking run it twice if necessary with Barkley. How does he not even touch the ball on that possession?
Mr. Mara, please clean house.
in Slayton's game: he does not aggressively work back to the ball and catch with his hands.
It was a nice play by the Eagles DB but Slayton needs to watch some film of Michael Thomas of the Saints. You gotta make those contested catches in the NFL.

Did I say Shurmur sucks.
We definitely can agree on that.

Great post.
