salaried guys (Dion Waiters and James Johnson) havent played one minute all year...Herro and Nunn all rookie players, Duncan Robinson 3 point marksman (10 last night), Adebayo all star and J Butler playing at NBA first team level...3rd triple double in last 4 games...don't put it past Riley to deal for another all star prior to deadline
One of very few hall of fame coaches who is also a hall of fame executive. Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone in any sport that has been as successful at both.
Just an amazing basketball resume. Beat Kareem in High School in one of the most famous NY State games ever. Played for Rupp at UK. Lost the Glory Road game. Played with the Wilt-West-Baylor Lakers. Coached the Magic-Kareem-Worthy Lakers. The 90's Knicks. The Shaq-Wade Heat. GM'd LeBron-Wade-Bosh Heat.
Riley was raised in Schenectady, New York. His father, Leon Riley, played twenty-two seasons of minor league baseball as an outfielder and first baseman, and appeared in four games for the 1944 Philadelphia Phillies.
Linton High School's 74–68 victory over New York City's Power Memorial on December 29, 1961, is remembered mostly for its two stars: Power Memorial's Lew Alcindor (who later changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar); and his future coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, Pat Riley. In 1991, Riley called it, "One of the greatest games in the history of Schenectady basketball."
Riley was a versatile athlete in college, participating in both basketball and football. Coached by Adolph Rupp, UK lost to Texas Western (today's UTEP), a game that was reenacted in the movie Glory Road.
He was drafted as a wide receiver by the Dallas Cowboys in the 11th round of the 1967 NFL Draft.
Why is he a scumbag? He wanted more control and we wouldn’t give it to him. How’d that work out?
How is he a scumbag? For leaving? Sheesh.
Preach
