Finally, a championship rotation to go with a deep lineup and great bullpen. Kudos to Hal for breaking the bank. Oh, and fuck the Astros. Yankees are World Series favorites - right where they belong.

Also, very excited to see Matt Blake's impact on the rotation, earning rave reviews already. Expecting career years from sevy and paxton
this also takes all the pressure off of

Unbelievable. It’s been a long time since we were in our rightful position as the dominant team. This could be the start of a multi year run.

You knew there would be an opt-out.....it's good for the Yankees that it's after 5 years and not 3 years. Cole will be 34 then, if he opts out we got his best years already.
36 mil per year...

Yep, I have no issue with it. It will be when he's 34, that's fair. And it's still soooo long from now.

Asked him the same yesterday. He's all in
Honestly, I love the 5 year opt out
NoGainDayne : 12/11/2019 12:51 am : link
if he's confident that he will be able to beat 4/144 at 34 that speaks volumes
Great feeling
Nine-Tails : 12/11/2019 12:51 am : link
Knowing the empire is back. Rosenthal said Cole was the Dodgers top priority all offseason and they cleared lots of salary for him and we just straight bullied them and the Angels into submission.

I'll say it again, when the NY Yankees go all in, no single team can touch them.

Same. If he opts out, we say thank you for you service and the rings. Now you can go home.

But let's worry about that in five years because we just got the best pitcher in baseball.
CC and Moose both earned their mega deals.
bceagle05 : 12/11/2019 12:58 am : link
Tanaka has too, for the most part. I have no doubt Cole will earn his. Let's get some rings!
thank god

Why? Strasburg is getting $35M/yr, Cole is getting $36M/yr. The difference is Cole's has 2 more years on it than Stras, but Cole is 2 years younger than Stras. Everyone knew Cole was going to make more than Stras, I'm glad it was only $1M more per year, and I think mathematically the contracts make perfect sense in relation to each other, regardless of when they were signed.

Need to find out what's going to happen with German.

German
Loisiaga
Devi Garcia
Montgomery

Do any of these guys project to a potential #1 ace.

What a staff now. If Sevy returns to 2018 1st half form...wow

Now get another high contact low K hitter to balance out the line up. And we are ready for war.
BBI being BBI - I can't wait for tomorrow
DCOrange : 12/11/2019 1:45 am : link
You can count on several Yankee fans not liking the deal as being too much money or that it is 9 years if he doesn't opt out. There will be at least one "Cole will be 38 in 2028 and this deal will kill their cap, I just cannot get behind it." Or "I hate this deal. Now how do we resign Austin Romine? Too many other holes that could be filled."

BBI - the one place in the world where no one is ever happy, even when good things happen.

That's a great picture at a time like this.

Thanks
Of course, if George was still with us

Matt Blake would be fired within 15 minutes of the first hit off of Cole in spring training.

And the first Cole loss would see a Daily News backpage headline calling all his "baseball people" down to Tampa to find out why Im getting bad advice and what has to be done about this Astro pussy

This is awesome news.

Now, there are some interesting things to discuss.

1. What happens with Happ? Yes, nobody wants to see him starting games in the post season but as a fifth starter he makes a ton of sense to keep. However, because of the money I can see him being moved. German is dealing with the suspension. We are all excited about Garcia but I assume there is no rush to get him to the majors. And we also have Montgomery.

2. Andujar ... He was always a great trading chip for a SP but now that Didi was a casualty it makes sense to keep him. I would love a platoon of Gio and Andujar at 3B. Here is the problem, we cannot really afford to have 2 guys that are strictly 3B so can Andujar play 1B? I hope so. Worst case is that I am sure Gio could play 1B but do we really want his defense taken away from 3B?

3. Who is playing CF? I really like what Tauchman brought to the team last year. However, I am not sure he will be as effective starting every game. I heard they were talking with Gardner. I get it. We need to save money now and he will be cheap but it is truly time to move on. He was a great guy to root for but enough is enough. They have had great success the last couple of years or so with acquiring cheap options in the OF who have exceeded those expectations. I'd rather see Maybin in CF than to re-sign Gardner.
Great news, well done Cashman, Hal and company!

Most of the rest of the league has been spending Yankees money shared via luxury tax and revenue sharing on free agents for several years now...nice to see the Yanks give the rest of the league the finger with a big time free agent again, like the old days
Now that's the yankees we all know and love
