Jones lack of success

moaltch : 12/11/2019 10:14 am
How could Jones possible flourish??

You have 2 tackles that are among thee worst in the league

A center who gets pushed backwards on almost every play

A second year guard who's regressed considerably

A right guard who is stout in the passing game, but has no strength as a run blocker

A tight end who can't stay on the field

Blocking tight ends who cant block, and are slower than lineman

A stud running back who has been hurt most of the season

A #1 receiver, who really is a slot receiver but is forced to play outside due to lack of legit talent out there, besides missing multiple games with concussions

Another receiver that missed multiple games, and is on the backside of his career

Happily we are blessed with a 5th round pick who has looked like a complete steal, or else we'd be even worse.

If that's even possible.

And worst of all, a head coach that NEVER out-coaches, schemes, or adjusts better than any coach on the opposite sideline.
Jones has flourished - what have you been watching?

The TEAM stinks, but he surely does not.

This season was tossed away (sadly) very early on - but we got out of it exactly what we needed to.

Jones saw the live bullets, felt the heat of the bright lights, took some punishments and we saw what he could do well and learned what he needs to work on (all things totally correctable).

We have high draft picks, cap space, a QB of the future and some decent pieces at high priced positions that are getting burn to accilmate to the NFL (DL and hopefuly CB).

I am the eternal pessimist with the Giants these days, but if we have a legit coaching staff in place going into the combine - I could confidently say I will be as optimisic as I have been since 2012.

May become a good QB, but he is not a sure shot by any stretch, this is all excuse making, he is a rookie and has struggled, many rookies and in fact most do, but he is not quick to see the open receiver and his turnover issues are really bad, he has a good arm and is very accurate. He is a tough QB with good mobility, but the mobility is not an asset if it leads to turnovers, they are pinning their ears back knowing he is a turnover machine, they are game planning into that fact. The NFL is merciless and him developing is not certain, especially when you are training him with a loser of a head coach. Players are regressing under this guy, you hate to change anything, but this is rock bottom, now is an opportunity to do whatever you want. I want to get rid of the coach and GM, go get people from New England, let them hire the coach and make the decisions about the QB, let fresh unbiased eyes do it. You keep Gettleman and you keep jones, there is no guarantee this would ever turn around, not unless they do things different, it has been too long now, they had the chance, they blew it. They only needed to remain competitive while restocking, they fucked this up to the explode everything point, not me or you, we are the ones paying for this shit.
He’s also just a rookie

And he’s been fine for the most part. Eli was a major question mark for four seasons. He had that Vikings debacle in year four and everyone - myself included - Had basically accepted that he probably wasn’t the guy. Then a few months later he was Super Bowl MVP.

Be patient.
funny but I saw this and right away thought

"WHAT DOES HE MEAN LACK OF SUCCESS HE'S DOING GREAT!", then I realized the record. As a bigtime Eli supporter I didn't like that they went to Jones 2 games in. but I have been really pleasantly surprised. I like everything about him and when it comes to the turnovers, I think a few of the interceptions were him pressing to make something out of nothing and the fumbling is something a more competent coach can work with him on. Get him a solid head coach (Rivera), an above average OC(maybe Turner, maybe kitchens lol) and a QB coach (Tanney!!!).
He is also dealing with a long field on every possesion

Did we have more 3 and outs against PHiladelphia than we have had all season combined?
The only game he really struggled IMHO was

New England. All the other games I thought was a results of inexperience and the team just being in a horrible state overall.
All this stuff I constantly read on this site

excusing shortcomings of QBs due to bad OL play...let me just say this. Almost every team in the league is struggling with OL right now, even if I were to buy your complete narrative/characterization of our OL. The reality of the current NFL is that DLs have a huge edge on OL. The QB has to find a way to still be successful despite dirty pockets and pressure.

I get that it matters, and the numbers would look better if there were 5 studs there. Keep in mind, it's unlikely in Jones' entire career that a dominant OL will stay together long, even if it's built. Injuries happen, and it's just so difficult to get that many good OL on one unit. This is the reality of playing QB in the NFL.

That's why the best QBs in the NFL playing today can move and extend plays. If you were thinking about a top 5 QBs in the NFL right now, you'd probably have (not in order) Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson, and you may have Matt Ryan and Drew Brees in there, maybe Brady, but it's not a coincidence that at least 3 of those top 5 guys can really move around.

And if you look at the reigning SB champs and their GOAT QB you can see what the effect of a bad OL is.
Coaching is the issue

Let's see who they bring in...If Shurmur stays...I think everyone gets wiped out including DJ in 2021.

A new coach next year may be able to get us winning and work with DJ more.

Drafting a QB next year does not appear to be the #1 need.
i would like to see Jones play with a better Center in front of him

it's amazing how easily Brady steps up into the pocket to avoid the rush, giving himself more time. Same with other proficient pocket passers.

I'd love to see Jones be able to do that.
Same could have been said about Eli for the last 5 seasons

There's certainly nothing, yet, to suggest he stinks, but there's also not much basis to say he's flourished. The first few games were very encouraging, since then he's had some ups and plenty of downs. Totally understandable given a difficult situation, but there's no reason to credit him more than his performance warrants.
All the rookie QBs that went to bad teams in 2018 & 2019
arniefez : 12/11/2019 3:07 pm : link
look like rookie QBs on bad teams except Rosen who was on two bad teams and never had a real chance.

Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Murray & Jones all have played well at times and terrible at times.

Allen has a good coach. Jury is out Kingsbury. The other 3 have have awful coaches.

It's way too soon to tell on any of them.
Very pleased with Jones’

Play. Amazing how many fans lack vision and can only see what s right in front of them

Could do nothing with this team. 40 yds passing in 3 quarters. Yes he had a good 2nd but Slayton was wide open (it wasn’t tough throws). Team has potential but needs some quality vets.

Yep. I think a first-rate center would be more important than an LT. You'd think our head-coach former-center would realize the value of a first-class center to create a pocket for our QB's to step into. All the tackles need to do is push the D-ends wide and deep, because then the D-ends have to attack a QB who's moved towards the line of scrimmage rather than away from it.
