Would you be for firing DG if it meant T. Aikman as new GM?

FranknWeezer : 12/11/2019 10:57 am
Quote:
"It's something that I guess I've always somewhat entertained," Aikman said. "I've had a chance to talk with [Broncos general manager] John Elway in previous years. I've visited with [49ers general manager] John Lynch, and the decision that he made to take on that job in San Francisco, and I've said many, many times, I still believe there's another frontier for me -- maybe there's not -- but I believe that there is, and I think that might very well be it. It's something that I think would be very challenging. I'd be giving up a lot to leave the job that I have to take on a role like that. It's an all-consuming job and I certainly recognize that, but I think the challenge would make it worthwhile."

He's only interested in 31 teams...

Quote:
Aikman was asked by 1310 The Ticket hosts if he could envision himself taking a player personnel role in the Cowboys' front office and quickly shot down the idea, saying it's unlikely Cowboys owner Jerry Jones brings anyone in in such a capacity, citing Jones' being "real stubborn and steadfast in that he's the one in charge."

So, how badly do you want DG out of the GM chair?
Aikman as an NFL GM? - ( New Window )

I don't think it is as ridiculous as it sounds.....

The Giants have a young QB who needs to be developed and who knows better what to put around Daniel Jones than a Super Bowl winning QB? This sound ridiculous but could be very interesting. I hate it and love it at the same time.
John Lynch is a GM

Does he have the chops to handle a GM role? I don't know, but I'd have to believe he would be capable.

Section331 : 12/11/2019 11:29 am : link
by all accounts Shanahan calls the shots. Fats is right, Aikman is smart and works hard, but I'd rather have a guy with some experience in the role.
I wouldn't mind bringing him in some capacity
Jay on the Island : 12/11/2019 11:31 am : link
but I wouldn't hand him the GM job. Sure John Lynch has been successful making the transition but that doesn't mean that Aikman will succeed as a GM. I do think in time he could be a solid GM but I am not ready to make that kind of gamble at this time.

They should focus on Caserio.
What's the success rate.....

Someone who has a deep background in the sport and has a job which is based on reporting on the sport and sees it every day likely would be just as qualified. And quite possibly more successful.

Over Gettleman. DG has been a big failure, combined Carolina and NYG his record as GM is awfully bad. At least with Aikman I don’t doubt his knowledge of Football and intelligence. He is a very smart guy and knows the game.

GiantEgo : 12/11/2019 11:45 am : link
Gotta love how these big egos think they deserve to go straight to GM. How about starting a little lower down and gaining some experience.

I'd like someone as GM who is cunning, savvy, forward-thinking, unsympathetic, cold, calculating and unafraid of ruffling feathers.

If he fits the bill, bring him on - even a former Cowboy.
Be worth it to hire a Cowboy legend like Aikman ,
Tittle 9 20 64 : 12/11/2019 11:52 am : link

If the rumors are true
Jay on the Island : 12/11/2019 11:55 am : link
Nick Caserio's contract expires at the end of the season. He has worked with Belichick for over 10 years and was sought out by numerous teams over the past few years. If he is available the Giants would be crazy not to at least attempt to bring him in.

Caserio as GM with final say, Abrams in his current role, and Perhaps Aikman as director of player personnel just to piss off Cowboy fans.

Thinking the same thing. The "old way" doesn't work anymore. Time to think outside the box.
Funny thing is...

(I know this is vague as hell)
(I'm 95% positive Aikman said this)

like 2-3 weeks ago, I'm watching a game and announcer says:

First you get your D-Line, then you get your QB.

Isn't that exactly what DG has been up to?

Absolutely not
GoDeep13 : 12/11/2019 12:26 pm : link
And yes it’s because he was a Cowboy.

I’d take Peyton for sure though.

And is probably whip smart.

But the cowboys are an arch rivals and it's probably more in keeping to hire proven professional coaches and managers of long standing .

Sort of a trick question actually given context.

I don't think Romo is willing to put in the necessary hours. He has a great part time job that allows him ample time to play golf.

Scuzzlebutt : 12/11/2019 1:16 pm : link
Are we going to give the next GM more than a year to completely tear down and rebuild the franchise? Because if we don't, it probably doesn't matter anyway.
Tror Aikman As GM
BlueVinnie : 12/11/2019 1:21 pm : link
I would prefer someone with some front office experience. It wouldn't necessarily have to be as a GM.

However, and this is a HUGE however, I would definitely prefer Aikman over Gettleman. I'm sure he'd need a lot of help handling the financial aspects of the job but I have to think he'd be more adept at personnel decisions than Gettleman has proven to be.
I would be for firing
MookGiants : 12/11/2019 1:29 pm : link
DG if it meant some schmuck from section 133 row 7 was the new GM.

They could not possibly do worse than DG. He's the biggest issue with this team right now. Far from the only issue, but easily the biggest.

I think John Mara gives him a run for his money in that regard, but they're 1 and 1a in any case.

Would be a shame to lose him, he and Buck are the best combo. No idea how he’d do as GM. Wouldn’t go crazy if they hired him. Won’t spend a lot of time thinking about it because they will never hire him.
Payton as our GM?

Thanksgiving at the Manning’s is going to be tense the year Payton has to release his brother
I dont know enough about him to say one way or the other
Rudy5757 : 12/11/2019 2:44 pm : link
Does he stay involved at the College ranks? He may know NFL talent and be good at the FA stuff but what does he know about college? Does he have any ties to coaches? He has been retired a long time and many of the people who coached him are near the end of their career.

I like DG as a GM. He was able to get Carolina to the Superbowl after having to tear it all down and I think he needs more time. Not sure I would fire him to promote a rookie at this point.

How's that working in Denver? I'll take anyone over Gettleman but no GM should be hired to help develop QBs. They should be hired because they can build a roster.

51-28-1, SB appearance, 3 NFC South champs, 4 playoff appearances as a GM with a competent coach.

Not sure why so many bbi jagaloons are so triggered by him.

either he proves that he can't do the job - and in my view he is doing reasonably well up to this point - or until he has to or wants to retire.

Remember, the roster was largely garbage when he came in, the team culture was toxic, and he's been given a totally incompetent head coach.

The roster is still largely garbage, there's no indication the culture is improved or that it's had any impact, and he had a big part in hiring the incompetent head coach.
