Which HC candidate would best attract Free Agents

CMicks3110 : 12/11/2019 8:24 pm
One the biggest reasons to fire Shurmur (and eventually gettleman) is the recognition by the league that the Giants are in trouble and who wants to play for a dumpster fire organization. That is in my opinion the biggest reason to change guards NOW. We need our credibility back as a flagship NFL franchise. The obvious choice would be Belichick, but while I think its totally plausible, I just don't see it as likely. So after that--who brings the most credibility?

Rivera
Garrett
Rhule
McDaniels
McCarthy
Saleh
Riley
Harbaugh
Shaw
Harbaugh , Rivera or Urban Meyer

Come for the money. I honestly don’t think the coach makes a difference in terms of attracting free agents.
Rivera,

because modern professional athletes love being yelled at during halftime.

Who doesn't love that nostalgic feel of high school?
Close to zero impact

The city’s nightlife will have a bigger impact. Even if it did, it should have zero impact on who the Giants pick as coach, this ain’t college.
Default . . .

Anyone who thinks the coach

doesn't matter is fooling themselves. $$$$ is important but in the NFL $$$ is pretty comparable offer to offer. Coaching can easily sway the choice!
Saleh
Mr. Nickels : 12/11/2019 9:44 pm : link
imo

I agree with you. I think money is the deciding factor for players who know that they don't have many games left in the tank.
Never mind attracting FAs

Which HC candidate can attract the best assistant coaches. Having a top notch staff is very important for a young developing team.

I think you’re looking at:
Rivera
Matt Rhule ( has league and college ties, but it’s really hard to predict what kind of staff he would assemble. )
McDaniels (but I doubt he comes here if Gettleman is still here)
Harbaugh (not that I believe he is leaving Michigan)
Jay Gruden (known commodity in the league and is well connected)
Mike McCarthy (I’m not a fan)

I’m really surprised no one here has been talking about Dan Campbell. Former Giant and now an assistant under Sean Payton. Certainly worth a look.

Harbaugh has not been attracting such great talent at the collegiate level. He can get any player he desires, all he has to do is convince them to come play for him at Michigan.

Yes, why not Campbell? He did a good job in a handful of games for Mimi. And Jay Gruden should be able to assemble a quality staff.
Most people who are well off would gladly trade away 10%

of their salary for a preferred boss.. I know I can get a 10-20% raise but won't leave as I like my current situation.. The same can be expected of people that make way more than enough money.. not all decisions are based on money..
There ARE a lot of factors besides money
Thankyoueli : 12/12/2019 9:03 am : link
You think every FA signed, his contract that he ended up with was that far ahead of the competitions? Big FAs will have big offers that are very very close to each other and the decision will come down to other things.

Not very often at all you're gonna have a team offering 5m a year more than the next closest team for a sought after player.

If it came down to nothing but money the scrub teams with 100m in cap would absolutely clean up every year.
Depends on what side of the ball.

Offensive guys might like to play in a McDaniels offense, and D guys for someone like Saleh.
Forget about Free Agents.
Red Dog : 12/12/2019 10:59 am : link
You build a winning team through the draft.

Perennially chasing a lot of Free Agents makes you a loser. You can sign one or two to fill key holes but that's about it. Otherwise you end up with a team of over-paid under-performers because the best guys never hit Free Agency.

If you guys don't realize there are other factors than money you are
Zeke's Alibi : 12/12/2019 11:04 am : link
fooling yourselves. Yeh if the delta between cash is more than ten percent you are fucked but other factors enable your ability to spend less, or in our case more where we needed to blow everyone else out the water for Vernon and to a lesser extent Solder.

These guys make so much and day to day life in the NFL is brutal, situation matters a lot.
If the money is equal, HC can be a factor

But remember when the word was no FAs wanted to play for Coughlin. It wasn't true. There were PLENTY of FAs signed during those years. Lots of them made big impact, too.
