And another reason athletes should stay off of Twitter all together, but the beat immediately demanding Jenkins' release and then getting their wish over a word he apologized for twice and explained himself over is maddening.

The PC crowd lost their minds, Jenkins was punished for it and the Giants fall further apart as a result.

I've seen some of these same fans and beat writers say far worse things about people (see: the President) and no one bat an eye. But they wanted to create a fire and got it, and now pretend they are high and mighty sensitive beings that want nothing but love and world peace.

It's as fake as can be, whereas Jenkins was as real as could be.

Agree or disagree with what he said, there's no denying that reality.

Couldn't admit he was wrong, but he did a great job training up our young cornerbacks didn't he. Please get rid f this asshole Gettleman, get rid of him tomorrow. He is a fucking disgrace.

If you're a teacher and you call somebody that you're getting fired.

If you're at any office USA and call a customer that, you're getting fired.

You just can't do that. It's never been acceptable in the workplace.

That can't be true. Allstarjim said that people don't get fired for saying this in the workplace.

Dan Benton is not a beat writer. He just recycles everyone elses stuff and sprinkles in a bit of sensationalism and misquotes for clicks.

Pretty accurate.

If you work at McDonalds, and you call someone retarded on your personal twitter account, and the manager happens to find out, you probably won't get fired

If you work at McDonalds and you're tweeting while you're at work, you could get fired without uttering a single offensive word.
no one who works at mcdonalds is going to get fired
japanhead : 12/13/2019 3:49 pm : link
for tweeting at work. do you really think fast food restaurants have a zero tolerance policy about cell phone use while on the job? have you ever worked at or been to a fast food restaurant?

also, wasn't jenkins getting treatment for an injury when he was on his cell phone? it's not like he was in the middle of running coverage drills.

also hilarious that this happens the day after POTUS trolls a 16 year old girl with aspergers.

Have you been to a McDonalds lately, Mr. HighBrow? No one is getting fired for being on their phone at work at a McDonalds. You think Dirty John Hustle is gonna fire Jimmy for being on his phone when there's a line out the door during rush hour? No.

This is a totally strange and unexpected development, of course fans have thoughts about it.

Would you expect the majority of members to read that headline and say, "Oh, cool."

(End of thread)
Was working at a talk radio station (not sports) this morning when
Waldo Jeffers : 12/13/2019 4:08 pm : link
the news broke.

A listener who knows that I'm a Giants fan called within seconds of the story breaking.

The first thing out of this asshole's mouth was a horrific joke about Jenkins and the Special Olympics.

I hadn't heard the news yet, but had been following the story over the last few days.

I said something like,"thanks for the call," and hung up.

We recorded his call during a commercial break.

The guy I was working with asked me, "what the hell was that about?"

I checked BBI, was mildly shocked, and explained it to him and we shared a feeling of disgust in regard to the caller.

Obviously the call wasn't aired.

There's simply something wrong with a whole lotta people out there.

That said, there is more to this story than the tweet, and the stupid follow-up tweets (which could have been an,"oh yeah, then cut me" thing.)

The rest of the story will make its way to us posthaste.

is a dangerous thing. I understand we can hurt people with our words, but his mention of It's in his culture is understandable, albeit old. As kids, we often said that. Many of us never stopped.

At what point do we stop offending people? What is the line? I understand words against races and such, bad history there. But "retard"? Anyone from New York or a big city probably used it to mean Moron, Jerk off, or the like.

Can you imagine getting fired over jokingly saying "I wish I never got married"?
Just give it time...
It will offend someone.

For the record, I was hoping we'd trade him to a team that could use him for a playoff run. Not great, but on a good team, he would probably be a decent add.

We also released JJ to increase our chances of losing. DG knows he is our best CB, so take him away should allow teams to pass against us even more. Besides, I’m pretty sure Gmen didn’t want to pay JJ 11 million next year so he was going to be gone anyhow after the season, so why not now instead?

DG knows what he is doing.

Gettleman and Shurmur have found their calling. Teams who want to lose in order to get a high pick will be calling them for jobs next year.
I’m sorry but this is a joke
Justlurking : 12/13/2019 5:18 pm : link
This franchise is an utter embarrassment. Wasting another asset. I guess Gettleman gets really offended when he hears the word retarded because usually it’s used to describe his asset allocation model.
This was a Mara/Tisch decision
Dave on the UWS : 12/13/2019 5:24 pm : link
Shurmur and Gettleman are the front guys. I think his status would have been discussed in the off season. Probably not back, but not a slam dunk. The smarter move, was to trade him (and Engram) at the deadline.
Serious Question
Reale01 : 12/13/2019 5:25 pm : link
I liked the Rabbit, but I am fine if they are done with him. That said, why not just either IR him, suspend him, or if that is not allowed simply make him inactive for the last three games? You could trade him for something once the window reopens.

It sends the same message - actually better cause he cannot hook onto a contender this year - and gets the Giants some kind of return.

I know you would still have to pay him - but wouldn't the return you get in the trade (4th or 5th round pick) be worth the $1.8 million you save?

Read my posts above (Just CTRL F and search my handle). JJ will still get paid. Our only chance of saving the money is if he is claimed. Not many players are ever claimed when waived with injury designation.

As alluded to in Shurmur's PC transcript, it was a decision from the Top Down. Mara/Tisch made the decision and everyone is on board. It just wasn't the singular use of the word and then not apologizing. His actions were cumulative with the final decision coming to a head with the latest action.

The waiver action was due to his behavior. But because he was injured, he must carry the designation. It is about an open disclosure to other teams that might consider making a claim so they know that he currently has an injury. It doesn't stop a team from making a claim. But rather if we chose to waive him and hide the injury (don't know how as he was on the injury report) and another team claimed him only to realize that he was injured, the league would look to penalize the Giants. Because you don't just claim a player but also their existing contract. In JJ's case, there is no more guaranteed money. But the possibility that a player's contract still contains guaranteed money and would be claimed only to discover an injury that new club would be on the hook for the guarantees.

With the injury designation, the CBA also protects the player. If JJ goes unclaimed, he reverts back to us at which time we have 5 days to agree to an injury settlement. If no injury settlement is agreed upon, then he will go on IR and can not be released from IR until he can pass a physical.

Thanks Diver! All my years here, I did not know about the cntl F feature. My main point was: Why not keep him until we can trade him? Short term "Punishment" with IR, a suspension, or deactivation on game day. You can claim the high moral ground after you trade him. This is the better way particularly if he gets paid anyway.

The decision was made my Mara/Tisch to distance themselves from him. It wouldn't surprise me if we learned corporate sponsors applied pressure. The SJW on Twitter likely threatened to boycott the corporate sponsors. By severing ties (if he goes unclaimed, the injury settlement will be the remaining 2 games (he is still paid this Sunday)), then the questions on JJ's actions will recede quicker than if we retain his rights.

By the way, the CTRL F feature is the only way that I can find where I left off on some of these lengthy threads.

Some of you mischaracterize political correctness to the point of parody. You know what you’re saying is bs, but you say it anyway. Maybe it’s the alternative facts timeline we’re living in right now. I know that at my job, I couldn’t go around calling people “Retard” and expect to keep my job. And sure, I did used to say it when joking around with my friends...when I was a kid. That’s the difference, maybe some of you never grew up or maybe some of you still see no problem with using these terms as an insult, but maybe you should take around and realize that it’s time to get with the times because it ain’t Levittstown in the 1970s and nobody gives a fuck where you grew up.
