signing Janoris Jenkins. Weis has a son with special needs and he completely destroyed the Saints for signing Jenkins and for the announcers last night to not mention one word of what Jenkins had said and his refusal to sincerely apologize or even reconcile that what he said was wrong.
Weis was emotionally upset indicating the R-word is as offensive to mentally challenged people as any other of these ethic or other very negative terms.
Listening to him, frankly, he's right. He also told a story to really indicate that Jenkins is not a good teammate. He apparently was OC at Florida after Urban Meyer left and they had a big game coming up and the coaches held a players meeting and emphasized that no one go out and do something stupid and get arrested. Well, guess who goes out and gets arrested...Jenkins. He was then released by Florida and ended up at a much smaller school.
I remember reading about this when Jenkins was drafted. I will leave it at that but I am not unhappy Jenkins is gone.
That said he didn't kill anyone. He shouldn't be kicked out of the league for it. He should just be known as a dumbass.
I get that Weis is upset, but he may be a little too close to it to to look at objectively.
It's been 6 days since the last NFL arrest.
The Arrest-O-Meter: - ( New Window )
No one promised ANYONE that we get to go through life never being offended.
If it wasn't the Saints, it would have been someone else.
I get that Weis is upset, but he may be a little too close to it to to look at objectively.
Lots of focus on Jenkins' words on Twitter, but not a lot of focus on the fact that he was dicking around on his phone during practice. That's especially notable as he has a history of bad effort both in and out of games when things aren't going well.
Jenkins has talent, and he'll probably do well on a team like New Orleans which is in the thick of things. While I think the Giants should have suspended him rather than cut him, I don't think he's a big loss because he's not the type of player that is going to help a struggling team get better.

He didn't make a "mistake", he doubled down on it in an interview afterwards and said that is how he talks! Rewarding him for this behavior is just wrong, he should at least have to sit out the remainder of the year, instead he is heading for the playoffs, nice message!

Oh, I completely agree. I thought DG should have moved JJ at the deadline, and suspended rather than wave him, but I think the Saints made a good move. When motivated, he's a good player, and winning seems to motivate him.
How was that swept under the rug? Jenkins' brother is facing manslaughter charges, and there was never any evidence that Jenkins was there or had any involvement in what happened. If you think this is evidence that the people around him are a bad crowd, so be it, but there was certainly nothing tying him in any way to the crime, and nothing to be swept under any rugs.

Nice take on it, Jenkins works in the public eye, that is why he makes millions. If he offends some of his viewing audience he should man up and apologize! The fact that he didn't, but instead doubles down on it makes it worse.
Sure, but you can blame the Giants for that. If they had suspended him, he wouldn't be available to the Saints. Short of the NFL suspending him, what can you do?
I'm not sure what punishment people find appropriate. I would say fine him and donate the money to special needs causes, but let's not overstate what he did, especially when Tyreek Hill is still playing in KC, Joe Mixon in Cincy and Kareem Hunt in Cleveland.
His mistake was he didn't tell the reporters he would changing his language with his friends.
It's all on video.
Opinions will vary whether he should have simply told the reporters mea culpa and I will stop talking that way with friends. Others may suggest he wanted out of here anyway and got what he wanted.
But he did apologize.
I'm sorry but has anyone else never heard a word in their life that caused them to be "offended"? They're words... not one person has ever bled from a word.
And I'm a ginger ffs, we're openly picked on more than any other class of people and are defended by literally NOBDY, and ya know what.. I think ginger jokes are hilarious. I also once had a less than common but highly debilitating medical condition, and saw a stand up comedian mocking and minimizing it. Still didnt feel OFFENDED, was actually a pretty funny bit. My mother taught me if you cant laugh at yourself you cant laugh at anybody else.
For a man to be 3rd party offended by any word that's not even directed at him is kinda pathetic honestly. Even if you are, be a man and keep your FEELINGS to yourself.
Congrats 2019, you made a millennial sound like a boomer.
That's a valid point. But the reporters pressed him on whether he would stop talking that way in private, he demurred. I'm sure Janoris uses the N word, R word, F word, and a whole bunch of other words with his friends. A lot of pro football players do. That doesn't justify it; it's simply reality. Jenkins told the reporters he probably wasn't going to change his language in private. I tend to believe him.
If he had lied, he'd still be a NYG. Now he is a Saint.
I think that is a stupid gotcha questions by reporters. Who cares what he says in private? It is none of our business. Should he be disciplined for using that term with his friends? I'd agree it's distasteful, but suspension-worthy?
So go be a pain in the ass elsewhere

I'm OK with the R word and the F word, but P and C are out!
Who here hasn't had at least one dead body in their basement? Anybody? Yeah, that's what I thought. Hypocrites.

This, he’s and issues in the past and this was the straw that broke the camels back. There is a reason he was kicked of the u of Florida team and transferred northern Alabama
Quote:
Convenient that that has been swept under the rug too.

Who is a hypocrite? Jenkins' brother is currently under investigation for manslaughter, and police found that Janoris had nothing to do with it. Do people really think that police are going to see a murder case and say, "oh, it was a Giant, let's just drop it."? Plax, LT and others wish that were the case.
During a Football Life on the NFL Network about Jimmy Johnson they told a story about the time Johnson saw a special teamer sleeping during a meeting and cut him. A reporter asked what he'd have done if he'd seen Troy Aikman sleeping. Johnson said, "That's easy. I'd have gone over and said,'Troy, wake up'".
Selective outrage to what offends you should always be ignored.
Charlie is also allowed to voice his displeasure.
Amen
1. He did apologize. That said, he was forced too. I think he probably learned a lesson here about what he says publicly, but he didn't learn THE lesson the PC police wanted him to learn -- he basically said, "Fuck that. I'll do what I want on my time with my friends." Jenkins has shown over and over, he is unapologetically who he is, and he's not going to change for anyone. As I said on another thread, I DO admire his balls for not taking any shit, and certainly not from this losing franchise. There are consequences for that stance, ESPECIALLY in the NFL, but he's willing to face them.
2. NFL players aren't choir boys and all the teams and the league knows that. If the NFL and their teams can't handle the heat of a guy shooting his mouth off, NFL contracts should outlaw players having social media accounts. It would save everyone a lot of headaches.
3. If the Giants were contending, they would have never cut him over this. They would have just kept him away from the media after the apology. Teams will put up with anything short of proven criminal activity if it means wins.
4. No one's talking about the terrible precedent the Giants set here by cutting him for this kind of thing. Jenkins just tweeted his way off a lousy team and on to a good one without losing much. Other good players on bad teams may note this tactic. The takeaway: You don't have to be as toxic and as vile off the field as Antonio Brown anymore to get yourself off a lousy team. Just tweet something un-PC, and the team will have apoplexy. Unless they're contending and the player is a quality player.
If the Giants really wanted to punish Jenkins, they should have kept him ON this crappy team, and maybe benched him. Then moved him or cut him after the season. Instead, they effectively REWARDED the behavior they didn't like.
Should have be allowed to ever have any job ever again? Or just banned from the NFL? Can he work in an office now? Or do manual labor, is that ok with Charlie Weis? Or should Jenkins never be allowed to make money again for the rest of his life? Should he be forced be destitute?
Maybe we could build an island and banish everyone who's ever offended someone else to live there forever with all of the other horrible people who say bad things. We can call it Cancel Island.

That's a false choice, no one is saying he should never work again, he was effectively REWARDED for using an offensive term.
It's been 6 days since the last NFL arrest. The Arrest-O-Meter: - ( New Window )
Tyreke Hill. Adrian Peterson etc
How was he rewarded? By going to a better team? So he should still be allowed to play, but only for shitty teams? Is that your position?
If not, please clarify.

I think it was just a general statement. The guy got rewarded in the end. That's it, doesn't need to be more complicated than that.
Its one of those gray areas that you can't do anything about.
I get that Weis is upset, but he may be a little too close to it to to look at objectively.
"should he never get to play again for saying something stupid on Twitter? "
No, but how about having him miss the remainder of this season at least? It says a lot about NO signing him, when every other team had the chance to claim him and did not.
Personally, I will be rooting against NO for the remainder of the playoffs.

That is certainly your right, but will you also be rooting against the Pats, since they signed Antonio Brown after credible sexual assault allegations? Or the Vikings for keeping Jayron Kearse despite his DUI? Or the Steelers for domestic violence charges against a LB?
I hate to sound like I'm defending Jenkins, I wanted him gone after he mailed in the 2nd half of 2017. I'd be cool with the NFL fining him and sending the money to special needs charities, but he used an offensive word, he didn't physically harm anyone, or endanger the public by driving drunk.
His punishment should have been a little sensitivity training rather than cutting off his salary. Education could have been a win-win.
Jenkins did apologize and he probably said all the right things to the Saints. Move along.
I bet Charlies Weiss didn’t give a shit when Kerry Collins and Riley Cooper were dropping N bombs.
True, different degrees of sensitivity out there. Murder is always bad.
"I'm not gonna change how I talk around my friends"
The last thing these pc babies wanna hear, good for you Janoris. They demand you kneel and submit to their thought-control idealogoy. Spit in their face and piss at their feet.
Show me a man who's never called one of his friends a retard and I'll show you a man who has no friends.

Yeah, that's what we need, more lecturing by another BBI poster about BBI posters. There is far too much lecturing going on these days by the holier than thou interest groups. Ancient saying - Opnions are like a$$holes, everyone has one."
It is not standing up for Jackrabbit or what he originally said. It is people putting too much credence in what a multimillionaire athlete says instead of taking what was said with a grain of salt. But then again, he did apologize and then was bullied by a bunch of pencil pushers looking for clicks.
ANd BTW, seems to me Charlie Weis was a voice..

Funny, you talk about lecturing but I giess it's OK when you do it. Whe you say yeah, but that's no apology. Last time I looked I don't think Charlie Weis is MR.
