Saw it, liked it, but really only warmed to it in the last hour. (It's 2:22 including credits.) Up to then, I was sort of aware of the filmmaking techniques, and was starting to think "I'm too old for this." I was trying to understand the story rather than getting caught up in the action. But I think that's because the first half or so of the movie is pretty complicated. Once it settles down, it's better.
If you hated "The Last Jedi" because you don't think Jedi can project themselves across the galaxy, you probably will have issues with this one.
Is it a completely satisfying conclusion? I don't think there is any way to have a conclusion that is completely satisfying to everyone. It's like "Game of Thrones" in that sense: Someone will be unhappy about something (Yes, it's better than the last episode of GOT but that's not saying much.). On the whole, I think it wraps things up satisfyingly.
I like Daisy Ridley in these movies. It will be interesting to see if she has a further career. I think she's very appealing but she doesn't seem to be getting traction elsewhere.
Adam Driver isn't going to get credit for it but he's really, really good in this movie. I mean, REALLY good.
After Last Jedi, I'm not going anywhere near a Rian Johnson/Kathleen Kennedy mess. Hopefully, those who go will enjoy it.
Ridley appears to utilize one of two facial expressions no matter the situation: confused or angry.
She has the most demanding shooting schedule. She has to do games, and cartoons which are like normal full length movies... In addition there are media events and conventions.
Expect to see her getting at least some outside traction now that her role is largely complete.
"Pile of shit", "destroys the entire original", "deeply unsatisfying", "forced political messages", "trash".
From what I've read online there is a lot calling this Game of Thrones 2.0 even right down to the fact that apparently the whole story leaked months ago on reddit and the leaks were so bad no one believed it, and yet apparently it's all true. Just like Game of Thrones.

Sounds like exactly what I figured many would say about it. Extreme reaction for something that’s likely solid and entertaining.
I can’t lie, it’s somewhat satisfying seeing how mad people get over this. I actually hope it ruins some of their childhoods.

Like I said, the first 75 minutes left me cold, then I got engaged. There are things I didn't like, there are some things I kind of hated, and there are things I think a lot of TLJ haters will despise. In general, I liked it but I didn't have the problems with TLJ that a lot of others did.
One thing I loved about the early Star Wars movies, especially "A New Hope," was that the droids were on the one hand basically slaves, and somewhat despised slaves at that, but on the other hand RD-D2 was the real hero who was constantly bailing out the humans (or whatever species they are), and only the audience seemed to really recognize it. That is pretty much abandoned. I miss it.
Sorry but that’s all I want with these movies. Don’t try to get cute, just give me more of what I have always enjoyed about Star Wars. It’s fuckin Star Wars, not The Godfather...
There are rumors of a Vader series on Disney+ set during this time period.
The Star Wars fan community is become so toxic lately. I can't count on the fan reviews anymore, unless it's that of friends. I just don't know what that person's agenda is. Maybe they don't have an agenda. Their agenda may differ based if they liked or disliked TLJ. Maybe they're automatically predisposed to hate any of the Disney-made Star Wars movies. Maybe they're upset that Lucas's midichorian-heavy storyline for the sequel trilogy wasn't used. Maybe they're upset that Han was killed, that Luke wasn't the badass that he was in the extended universe, or that the lead character is a woman.
So while I'm interested in hearing people's responses, they won't have any effect on my anticipation to see the film in 57 hours and 45 minutes.
The Last Jedi got 91% with critics. "Core" fan boys shit on it.
The Rise of Skywalker is sitting at 59%. Think the fans will enjoy this one?
Not likely. They will shit on it. It's what they do.
The Last Jedi dared to be different and got shit on so bad that apparently the new one is SO fan friendly, they might have made a shitty movie. I hope not though.

Not sure if you are watching the Mandalorian but in the most recent episode I was smiling ear to ear at some of the throwback moments they had on it.
I don't need the wheel reinvented with Star Wars, I want to sit back and enjoy what's sure to be some great action, nods to the originals, and an official (i think) end to the main saga. It really isn't that serious.

I've read a few spoiler-free reviews, and it sounds like, as feared, JJ bent over backwards to accommodate TLJ haters, and went for fan service over a cohesive story. I'll still go see it, of course, because at the end of the day, it's just a movie.
And Baby Yoda. Genius move.

It really is. The thread from Episode 6 pretty much ended by the time I caught up but I don't know what some people are complaining about. I don't like everything Disney but they absolutely nailed the Mandalorian.
Rewatched TFA and TLJ to get ready for this. Of course I have criticisms and things I like and didn't, but I'm totally out on the total overreaction to everything in pop culture (and politics, but that's another can of worms).
We want things quantified and in black and white. No nuance. Saying I liked it isn't good enough.

I just don't let anything influence my enjoyment of a movie. I read reviews because I find them interesting, and I always love hearing my friends perspective on something we both just watched, but once the credits roll the movie is either something I enjoyed or it isn't, nothing that happens prior can change that.
"Hype" is such a cliched term these days. Its replaced the word "popular", its a covert way of leading the charge to not liking something everyone else does. I generally ignore anything the relates to "hype", good or bad.

You and me both. I'll watch it when it comes to Netflix in a year.
Quote:
is the George Lucas wasn't invited to the premier. From what I heard, this movie wrecks Lucas's conclusion in "Return of the Jedi". I've also heard Lucas sold a "fix" that would have resolved the issues in TROS to Iger, and it was re-shot, but Kathleen Kennedy nixed it.

You fool. It will never be on Netflix. You'll have to sign up for Disney Plus. MUAHAHAHAHA
the fans of SW knew the writing on the wall for the characters. The problem had everything to do with TLJ and how the characters were used. Once that movie debuted, everyone drew their attention back to TFA and over analyzed the flaws of that movie.
as for the new movie, its dead on arrival. No one trusts Disney to end the movie such as the awesome EndGame. It could be why there are no SW movies in queue.
But its over. Go in with a mind to say goodbye to the characters you loved and the new ones you can barely care about. Disney did a job. Not a good one IMO.
And for the record, I did enjoy Force Awakens. I didn't love everything about it, but it restored my love for the franchise after the G-d awful prequels. I watched it with the same boyhood wonder as I did in 1977. Of course it helps that my two boys love Star Wars as well. But, Last Jedi did it's very best to undo that love. No, I go into this film expecting to not love it. I assume there will be enough in there for me to walk away not hating it, but I don't think this completely undoes Last Jedi for me.

same... TLJ was pure shit.
