Head Coach Pat Shurmur -- December 20, 2019
Opening Statement: It looks like Rhett Ellison wonít be able to make it. Daniel Jones was full. Barring anything crazy, heíll start and Eli (Manning) will back him up. Aside from that, everybody else practiced. A couple of guys that missed were back out here today, the personal reason guys. Ready to go. Good day of work. Iíll take your questions.
Q: How much progress do you think (DeAndre) Baker has made from Week 1 to where we stand today?
A: I think heís made a great amount of progress. He certainly needs to get better in a lot of areas still. But heís had more of an impact on the game. I would say itís fair to say heís had more good plays and less bad plays in each game that heís played. That speaks to some of the improvement. He has a long way to go, but I think heís made good improvement.
Q: Is it rare for a young rookie cornerback to come into the league and have an immediate impact? Are these the kinds of things you almost have to expect, some of the struggles early?
A: Yeah, I mean you donít expect anybody thatís out there starting to not play at a high level. But I think itís safe to say if you believe that experience matters, the more experience he gets, the better heíll perform.
Q: How did Daniel look this week to you?
A: Good. I just said heís starting. He looked fine. He looked good. Heís prepared and ready to go.
Q: How would you assess Leonardís (Williams) impact since heís gotten here and what youíve gotten out of him?
A: Itís been positive. Itís been very positive. I see that the way he approaches his day, the way he trains, he practices very hard. I feel like heís had an impact in the run game and the pass game. Sometimes for an interior defensive player, it doesnít come always with sack totals. But Iím pleased with what heís done to this point, and I do feel like in that young group of defensive linemen, heís had an impact.
Q: I know you guys liked his versatility. Is there a spot you think heís best at?
A: I donít know. He plays all of the inside spots, and then we have some big nickel stuff where he plays outside. I think the versatility is good because that allows us to get other guys in the rotation as well.
