Marvin Lewis, who was defensive coordinator and assistant head coach in Washington in 2002, is a serious candidate to become the next head coach there
-----------------------------------

It's also getting reported by a bunch of reputable sources all over. Great news for Giants, Cowboys, and Eagles fans if Lewis gets the Redskins job.

One of my best friends is a Skins fan, and he will MELT DOWN

If they hire Lewis. LOL!

Dan Snyder is insane
Snyder is completely lost...
bw in dc : 12/28/2019 1:01 pm : link
If true, sounds like he wants to save money on a coach and not go big on a Meyer, etc.

And worse yet, he may want to keep the hugely incompetent Bruce Young.

Do you mean Bruce Allen?
Lewis won with the Bengals

What did he win exactly?
'Great news if Lewis gets the Redskins job'...

Agreed. I never understood how he lasted so long in Cinci.
PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN

He lasted so long for many reasons.

One, doing what he did in Cincinnati would not have occurred by most coaches.

Two, Takeo Spikes said it best, "Name one big time FA that went to Cincinnati."

Three, the owner is notoriously cheap and it goes beyond just signing FAs.

Four, they had the smallest scouting department in all of football yet they had a stretch where they were drafting very well.

Five, and most important, the Bengals owner is a douche and doesn't get along with people but he had a great relationship with Lewis.

Now, this doesn't mean Lewis is a great HC because he never won a playoff game in his entire tenure there but you have to be fair to him as well with all the obstacles he had to ok overcome.
I actually think Lewis is an interesting candidate
cosmicj : 12/28/2019 2:07 pm : link
Not sure why all the hate. He took the Bengals to 5 straight playoff appearances in a stacked division and lasted a long time in probably the worst organization in the NFL. He leaves and is succeeded by a replacement level coach and / BOOM! They are 1-14.

The main problem with Lewis is the culture he promoted in Cincinnati, which wouldn’t be accepted by most NFL owners.

Tell you what - I am willing to bet $100 that he can coach the pants off of Pay Shurmur.
You have to wonder
ron mexico : 12/28/2019 2:10 pm : link
If the NFL tries to pull the bengals away from brown at some point.

robbie those sound like excuses for losing...
Torrag : 12/28/2019 2:11 pm : link
not reasons for retaining your HC. Also Lewis was hired and touted on defense after the Ravens yet it was the Cinci offense that was consistently carrying his water.

I reiterate I never understood how he lasted that long in Cinci.
9 out of 10 Giant fans would choose Lewis over Shurmur
Jimmy Googs : 12/28/2019 2:13 pm : link
right now given those choices so not sure why the ridicule.

And I might be low with that %
Being a better coach than Pat Shurmur isn't
Dave in Hoboken : 12/28/2019 2:14 pm : link
exactly saying much. Not like the Redskins are going to hire Shurmur. If they hire Lewis, I'd imagine most Giants, Eagles, and Cowboys fans would be cool with that.

It's not rocket science.

Excuses, facts, whatever. I stand by what I said if you read the whole thing.

Aren't gonna hire Lewis.
C'mon Giants fans. Use your noggin.

This is just following the Rooney rule.

Besides, we already had Lewis here.

From my sources it's 2 guys that are targets.

Urban Meyer & mystery name.

Some believe that Mystery name is Lovie Smith.

There have also been reports that Dungy is the mystery name.

It won't be Marvin Lewis.
I don't think
mdc1 : 12/28/2019 2:31 pm : link
Lewis falls into that lame Rooney rule garbage which is an insult to candidates.
they could do a lot worse
bluepepper : 12/28/2019 2:39 pm : link
and hopefully will. He won a lot of games in Cincy and made the playoffs pretty regularly at one point. If he does the same in Washington it will be bad for us no matter if he continues to lose in the playoffs.
Only on BBI would some here view
Dave in Hoboken : 12/28/2019 2:45 pm : link
this is as a good thing for Washington.
Don't think it'll be Marvin Lewis
aceinthehouse : 12/28/2019 2:46 pm : link
But if so, we could do worse.

Hue Jackson, Adam Gase, etc.

Listen, we all know Snyder.

He's gonna want a big name.

You have to account for the shock factor.

Dungy, Meyer, Gibbs 3.0.
Even Lovie Smith would be a surprise.

Marvin Lewis? Not so much.

Redskins drank from that same well when they hired Jay Gruden. Marvin Lewis Off coordinator.

Nope, it will be a big name.

Whether it works out or not, who the hell knows.

But you don't put fans in the seats, by hiring a guy who can't win a Playoff game.

You need a wow factor.

Lewis is a pretty good cozch
Jesse B : 12/28/2019 3:43 pm : link
Seriously the Bengals fire Lewis and they turn immediately into a dumpster fire. Obviously stabilized that franchise He was 131 and 122 as Bengals head coach.

Perfect
eric2425ny : 12/28/2019 3:50 pm : link
Guarantees mediocrity at best for at least the next 3-4 years for the Redskins.

No matter who they hire
BrianLeonard23 : 12/28/2019 4:11 pm : link
it’ll still be a dumpster fire no matter what. Danny Boy at the helm guarantees that.

Pay the man?
Not related to Pat Shurmur are you? Not that I am against some other team paying him....
Mediocre? Perhaps
LakeGeorgeGiant : 12/28/2019 6:21 pm : link
but he is clearly a better coach than the Giants currently have in their employ.

It's also worth noting that among BBI regulars there are 2 classes of coach, you are either BB or you suck.

I’ve always been a lewis defender. Not saying I absolutely love the guy but he’s clearly adept at being a HC in the nfl and as you said the bengals are much worse since he was let go.

Five straight playoff appearances is very very hard to do. It’s not like the bengals were loaded with star power either but lewis had that franchise running smoothly for longer than that owner out there probably deserves.

For perspective, we’ve never seen the giants make it to five straight playoffs. Maybe bb56 did... by the way where the hell is fiddy? Hope he’s well.

If the “Mystery Name” is Smith or Dungy, why is the Rooney Rule a reason to interview Lewis? They don’t need multiple Black candidates. C’mon, Redskins Fan. Use your noggin. Or at least be dumb in an internally consistent way. 😜

Yeah, if the Skins do indeed hire Lewis, I think I'll just wait until we hire a coach with a comparable record before I laugh at them.
