I found it interesting that he didn't say anything after McCarthy was hired by Dallas, or Rhule by Carolina, or Rivera by the Skins for that matter. Why did this hire set him off?
The expert color analysis comes from Troy Aikman, Tony Romo, Chris Collingsworth and an idiot named Booger. Does he really belong in this job or does he have it because of other factors ? Oh ...he just happens to work for ESPN. I’m so sick of this garbage ... best person gets the job.
Seems like black coaches get interviews for jobs they aren’t going to get. 68% of the players are black but only 2 of 32 coaches are black. And it’s not like it hasn’t been that way for years so you can’t say there hasn’t been time for black coaches to work their way up.
I don’t have a clue whether there was a better or equal black candidate than Judge, but I do know that the Giant paying fan base is very heavily older and white. If you don’t think that plays a factor in decision making you are burying your head in the sand.
Yes Smith is an over the top sports entertainer, but there is nothing wrong with continuing to point out this disparity. And it’s nice the Giants had a black GM, but the GM doesn’t stand on the sidelines as a primary face of the franchise.
I used to be a die hard Giants fan but after realizing how bigoted the fans are it made me sour on them a little bit. However I don't think the Giants organization is racist just the fan base and people on here.

The entire implication of what he said is that the Giants didn't want to hire a black coach.
so you agree he didn't call them a racist organization. ok good, that's step one.
can you break down the implication you're describing? show me where the logic of your breakdown crystallized your opinion he implied (not called) them a racist organization.
“This don’t happen for black folk. A wide receivers coach that becomes the head coach. Eric Bieniemy is in Kansas City. Now, he’s the offensive coordinator even though he’s not the play-caller. That would be because the great Andy Reid is the one calling the plays. This guy gets those gratuitous interviews that don’t really amount to anything. I don’t know who they brought in for the Rooney Rule.
The Cowboys brought in Marvin Lewis. And by the way because someone had that conversation with somebody about Marvin Lewis. Marvin Lewis coached in this league for 16 years. I know that Marvin Lewis deserves to be a head coach in the National Football League, but there’s something to be said about not winning a playoff game in those 16 years. There are plenty of African Americans in the National Football League, who by the way happen to be coordinators, that deserve a look.”
He also admits he doesn't know who they brought in for the Rooney Rule, yet he blasts them.
while i could easily point you to what he actually said, about how he thought judge is under-qualified (which i personally disagree with), i know you already read those comments because they were in the link you sent me. so i don't need to.
what other implication can be taken from "This don't happen to black folk"??
ah! this is now getting toward a better direction. asking questions rather than aggressively asserted opinions as facts. do you want to take a shot at answering your own question? i think you can do it if you really commit yourself to it.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills discussing this with you.
He literally said,"“This don’t happen for black folk. A wide receivers coach that becomes the head coach. Eric Bieniemy is in Kansas City. He's pissed off because he believes black candidates didn't get a fair shake.
I think it's fair to pose the question why in a league that is majority African-American, there are only 2 black head coaches.
There's a nuanced discussion to be had on the subject. Now I don't think Stephen A. Smith is having such a nuanced conversation, and is ultimately making big bold declarations because that's what gets him paid.
But I don't think the outright dismissal of the subject is fair either. I'm not suggesting the Giants are racist or they made this decision because Judge is white. Of course not. But I think this a relevant topic league-wide and is a discussion worth having. This is an issue that is clearly important and pressing for African-Americans. To dismiss it as PC nonsense isn't fair and is as ignorant as much of what Stephen A. Smith says.
what other implication can be taken from "This don't happen to black folk"??

you may not believe this but with this post we're actually closer to coming to agreement.
you see no where in your post here does your logic extend to the giants organization. you answered a question you posed to me earlier - he's upset because zero black candidates were hired this cycle (yet - with only position remaining), including now a coach he felt was much less qualified than another black candidate
you've actually said what i would have said to your previous question - he's upset bc he feels that doesn't happen to black coaches.
that doesn't actually imply the giants are racist.
it's also true as far as i can tell. i can't find one example of a black coach jumping from stc (or position coach) to nfl hc.
i personally really dislike stephen. he'a knucklehead blowhard. and as you can check in other threads i actually like the judge hire.

I can't believe you don't understand the implication of what he is saying.
My only guess is that the implication makes you feel uncomfortable.
i actually feel i understand his implication quite well. and i stated it above. i also think it's clear the implication effects you much more than it effects me.

very good, now show us your reading comprehension. and what does he immediately say next after that? be precise. also keep in mind the record is in the link eric sent above, so we all know what it was. hint: it was about qualifications for the ny market. it's right there.
Yes, he's upset that no black coaches were hired. (Incidentally, a Latino was hired... but that doesn't matter to him).
But he's underlying argument is structural discrimination. And the Giants are clearly part of that systemic discrimination in his view.
The Giants had a black GM. A black director of pro scouting. Black coaches. Black head trainer. But they systemically discriminate because they are inherently racist. This is how Stephen A. Smith sees the world. And anyone who has paid attention to this guy for years knows that's how he sees the world. He can't accept any other alternative. He's too plugged into the Matrix.

not all of the agents operating within a body that has structural discrimination are racists. that's my point. and that's why he's not calling the giants racists.
He specifically called out the Giants in the context of this systemic discrimination. He used them as Exhibit A. In other words, he sees them as THE prime example.
Conclusion: Giants are racist.
You don't agree but his entire outrage targeted AT the Giants is based on RACE and RACE alone.
Is the fact that Ron Rivera is of Puerto Rican and Mexican descent. He is 100% Hispanic. And yet that NEVER gets mentioned. We keep just hearing "only 3 black coaches"... "no black HC hirings this time around"... but why is it not significant that Rivera is technically a minority.
And this is not to say that I'm not in favor of more black/minority coaching hirings. I think the fact that all but 1 NFL GM and every single NFL owner is white (I believe) has a lot to do with it, but that's another story. I just don't get why Rivera wasn't recognized during this cycle and really never recognized for being a minority HC.
I think it's fair to pose the question why in a league that is majority African-American, there are only 2 black head coaches.
There's a nuanced discussion to be had on the subject. Now I don't think Stephen A. Smith is having such a nuanced conversation, and is ultimately making big bold declarations because that's what gets him paid.

alright, i feel with this comment you're circling back to previous points that we've moved on from and i'm not going to go in circles on this. i actually think you and i in this discussion did flesh out what he was actually upset about. i actually think we made progress.
as i view it we agree as follows:
(1) he felt judge was underqualified for the ny market,
(2) he's never seen even one black candidate get a promotion and skip this many steps
(3) he feels this way because structural discrimination exists
where we disagree is you say (pls correct me if i'm wrong) anyone who says structural discrimination exists implies any agents in that group that benefits from it are racist. that is completely contrary to what i understand the theory of structural discrimination says. and as someone who does believe structural discrimination exists i will offer that i don't view those in the power group to be inherently racist.
again, this is the SECOND time in less than a year that the Giants have been accused of being a racist organization by national media pundits.
Has it hit a nerve? I can unequivocally tell you that if I thought it was so I wouldn’t root one more day for the Giants. Not sure why that narrative bothers you so much. Ignore it.
