And I think that's exactly what this team needs right now and it definitely jives with some of the things we've been reading/hearing about him from people that are familiar with him.
Toughness is important, but the Head Coach of his team that has won 6 titles as a head coach is all about fancy guru schemes. That sounds like red meat for some people, rather than an actual answer.
He said ALL the right things. I no longer believe it to be hyperbole that he CRUSHED the interview. I am certain that he did. He also had the intensity I was looking for. The comparisons to Tomlin and Harbaugh might be fair. We will see. Hopeful.
If a player says something like De'Andre Baker said this year - not understanding the playbook - they won't see the field.
It wasn't as impressive as Rhule's presser yesterday, but that is not a knock. You get the idea that this guy knows how to coach and get the best out of his players - or at least has an idea of how to do it.
It looks like Edelman, Dorsett, Sanu and even Gordon were paying attention to him ... maybe they saw the clip of him throwing the Alabama lineman over the bench. And a PhD too... I’m impressed.
" I sat down with Mr. Mara and Mr. Gettleman for a long time" Â

Are you implying the Rhule would leave a player out on the field who didn't understand the playbook?
What if they lost a game for that reason? Would you accept the answer "Well I knew he didn't know the playbook but I left him out there anyway"??????
Looking to build a tough, hard nosed football team. Run the ball, stop the run and cover kicks. Seems to have a vision and communication skills to get the team to believe and rally around him. Totally opposite of Shurmur. Looking forward to seeing him get to work.
Evan Engram had not even get a hangnail this year.
LOL. traded maybe? he doesnt scream toughness AT ALL
Well, ability is nothing without availability. It's something that non-Giants fans didn't appreciate about Eli. No matter what, he was always there, ready to play. There are a lot of things that make Eli a HOFer. That's one of them. The Eagles have made the last three postseasons, and Wentz has managed to last 9 minutes of one quarter in one game. This is not meant to get into a discussion about Clowney's hit, but when you think about Eli, remember that.
If Engram continues to not be available to play for the Giants, he won't be on the Giants. I imagine Judge won't stand for the olay blocking Barkley did at times, either.
though I'm a little worried about what he said about what you need to do in today's NFL. "Run the ball, stop the run, and cover kicks." Maybe that was the NFL 5+ yrs ago but that's not today's NFL. Did love the fact that he said his schemes would be built around the personnel (and not vice versa) and that it would look different week to week.
Papa mentions two particular players (Jones & Barkley) Â

That is not exactly what he said. He said being physical, you have to run, stop the run and cover kicks. You are not PHYSICAL passing the ball. He was discussing physicality!

Seriously ??? How many rings does the guy have in today’s NFL and you question whether he understands the game ...I suggest you stick to Madden and your FF league.

Did you miss the fact the teams left in the playoffs were the top 4 rushing teams?
hopefully he brings the toughhness to our soft ass squad lol
And the quote on what he took away from working with Saban, "It's like drinking from a fire hose"
Can August get here already?
Loving him already.
Can August get here already?
to me THAT quote was AMAZING. seriously refreshing. he is going to hold people accountable. i like that shit.
LOL my first thought was fuck he is kinda scary lol
And saying all the right things that few can communicate clearly.
If this team plays hard and doesn't beat itself, it will certainly be a pleasant change.

I completely agree! I like the fact he doesn't lose sight of what football is all about.

No Tisch?

He met with Tisch on Tuesday in Rhode Island.
Wanna bet EE is on the Pats this year. I think he gets traded and the Pats need a TE!

Favorite response: "not worried about guru schemes - gonna line up punch the other guy in the mouth for sixty minutes"
Says current roster can develop and compete with anyone in the league - but it's going to take some time to develop
+1 He is saying all of the right things... B/c This team has been anything but tough & fundamentally sound.
