'What do you think of the Giants’ out-of-the-box choice of Joe Judge? —Billy R.'
'When it was announced, every Giants fan I knew called me going crazy. “What have they done?!!?!” “They kept Gettleman, that’s why they couldn’t get anyone!!!” But I’ll tell you what, Giants fans: every single person in the NFL says this dude is a stud. Absolute culture builder, smart, knows how to lead, he’ll have a great plan. I’ve honestly heard nothing but phenomenal things. Not just from special teams coaches, but from other coaches. This guy is electrifying. He’s an off-the-radar kind of guy.'
'It’s interesting, I do think special teams coaches should be considered more often because they are the ones who have to get the most out of the bottom half of a team’s roster. They have to be able to motivate, they have to be innovators in order for your special teams unit to play well. If you can get those guys to play well, you can certainly get the more talented guys to play well.'
For instance, in the MMA community, he has every big fighter's personal cell.
He's also a straight-shooter, and doesn't use his info to fuck athletes over.
I like the hire, and thought the guy had an interesting background from the second they added him to the interview list, but for a guy who was known to be so phenomenal, it's weird that you didn't hear more about him when he was listed as a candidate.

Off course. Anybody with something positive to say about the Giants is an unbiased source. Anybody in the media with something bad to say has an agenda and is conspiring against the Giants for their own personal gain.

Huh? I believe you’re thinking of Paul Dottino or another Giants’ employee.
This is just a guess. Belichick groomed him this year by giving him a second job. Wide receiver coach. He needed that experience.
He’s usually right, so his opinion means more to me whether it’s positive or negative. No reason not to get excited hearing what he’s saying about Judge.
The thing about a lot of fraternities is it’s often hard to get an offer to pledge.
Sounds like a guy who wouldn’t ever consider leaving NE for a place like Cleveland or Oakland.
How many teams interviewed Harbaugh before Baltimore signed him?
The ironic thing is that the ravens wanted Jason garrett and offered him a contract before going to harbaugh. Jerry Jones offered Garrett more money to stay with dallas

I certainly don't consider him that. And I would imagine the Giants don't consider him that either...
He got on the interview list because Gettleman et al kept hearing his name come up among other coaches.
It's not surprising that he was off the media's radar, because few people consider the role of the special teams coordinator. It's very comforting that his name has come up in coaching circles and that he walked into the Giants as an unknown and wowed them enough to become the top candidate.
Counting a first-place as four points, second equals three and so on …
1. McCarthy 86 total points (3.18 per ballot average)
2. Rivera 83.5 (3.09)
3. Rhule 59 (2.18)
4. Judge 41.5. (1.54)
Otherwise, whatever, people say stuff.
I'd rather it be positive than negative, but I don't give it much weight.
Off the radar did apply to Judge of course, but that's not what he meant when he misused the phrase.

Does that mean his information is incorrect or that the results stunk? Big difference.
Now I don't expect to hear anything negative so whatever he heard or said about Shurmur was likely legit, it just didn't workout.

Glazer isn't a mouthpiece for the Giants. Glazer has lit up Gettleman on more than on occasion. He's reported that Gettleman isn't well thought of around the league and he heard buzz that a lot of coaches wouldn't want to work with the Giants because of Gettleman.
He reports what he hears and believes isn't BS. The fact that he's hearing positive things on Judge is better than the alternative.

and show me Jay Glazer's comments when the Giants hired McAdoo and Shurmur and once I see those I'll have an opinion about these comments.

He references no one, who knows if his information is correct or not. But that's not my point.
It doesn't matter is my point. Has ZERO bearing on the on-field results and three years from now there might be a thread citing Glazer with commentary on the next coach and how great everyone (unnamed) thinks he is.
When people say positive things about something they like, people usually react one way, when people say negative things about something they like usually people react differently.
none of it matters.
On here you have two threads with contrasting content. One I started about the Ahtletic panel who ranked the NFC coaching hires. Judge was ranked last.
A different thread has Glazer with commentary from unnamed sources praising the Judge hire.
In the Athletic thread lots of "this is stupid", "this is meaningless", "who cares none of these people know Judge".
In the Glazer thread "Glazer is the only one connected" "I always like Glazer" "Glazer is legit"
just a little study in confirmation bias.
Point is - none of it means anything. But some of it is nice to hear. I'm at a point where I don't care about the nice to hear (or bad to hear). Not quite Greg in LI territory but cynical enough I'll wait for the results.

I think its a little more nuanced than that, the athletic seems to be basing their rankings strictly on resumes, fine. whereas guys like glazer are giving more general opinion on the hire, which obviously shows our new coach in a better light.
yes the proof will be on sundays come fall, but im tired of the in-fighting on here. We could all use some positivity, there is no need to make some grand declarations on our ability to reason. we are fans afterall, right?
I find it reasonable to believe Glazer on most things due to his track record all while questioning the opinions of the masses in some generic poll.
This sounds about right. He latched onto Strahan, and got credibility via him and stayed a straight forth info guy. Built trust in the industry

I'm in the exact same boat as you PJ. I saw a comment by Greg on another thread that was actually quite contrary for him. He stated, similar to what you have said that, yeah great he's 'out of the mold' 'young' 'comes from BillB and Nick S programs', etc and it that means nothing but he's optimistic. After the last 6 or so years, three head coaching hires and a multitude of media positivity and subsequent poor results, I'm holding off excitment until we win a few games. Unitl they do that, its all talk......put like Greg (and you I believe), as a Giants fan I'm optimistic.
As to whether or not his sources are correct or not that's a different thing. I'd highly doubt he's making shit up though.
Glazer hinted at the Giants trading OBJ and then it actually happened when nobody expected it. He has credible inside sources. If he says something, I'm inclined to believe it.
I disagreed somewhat with his comment about special team coaches needing to be great motivators to get guys to pay well. I assume most special teams players realize their ability to remain on an NFL roster depends on how they perform on specials. That's what motivates them.

He’s relaying what we been told. Zero reason to doubt this. Nothing is set in Stone but if we are going to get an up and comer I’ll take the guy who worked under Bill B and Saban at this point. And like Glazer says. His DNA Is to use want he has. It’s been said here often enough. No more system first guys. Please for the love of God. This guy fits that. Even if there are bumps. He may even fail but for once the Giants actually went outside the box. Something people here have been screaming for.
Again Glazer has a great rep around the NFL. .
Its one year of coaching WRs versus five years of consistently very good to league best special teams units.

Most special teams players don’t consider themselves special teams players. They consider themselves cornerbacks, linebackers, tight ends, etc. You need a good coach to get them focused and motivated on specials.
