What did Judge mean by being multiple on offense?

giants_10_88 : 1/11/2020 10:10 am
Was he referring to the pass-run balance week to week (from his comments on throwing 50 times one week and 10 the next week)?

Or did he mean by scheme? Like KC who is. west coast offense who has sprinkled some RPO and air raid principles in. That is the offense I would like to see us run.

Do we know what his base scheme is going to be?
To be flexible enough to attack others weaknesses

Right. But does that primarily refer to being flexible within the scheme or being flexible enough to run multiple schemes or elements of them?
I think he meant multiple schemes and....
No Where Man : 1/11/2020 10:17 am : link
players who can perform multiple tasks, like when LB Mike Vrable was used as their TE.
Multiple means
TrueBlue56 : 1/11/2020 10:18 am : link
Lining up in multiple formations. Being able to do different things. Whether its ground and pound to slow the game down, airing it out to take advantage of a weak secondary, running rpo's. Just not doing one thing or being predictable. Judge wants to be able diversified in what the offense and defense can do.
I'm hoping he meant multiple schemes
giants_10_88 : 1/11/2020 10:18 am : link
in addition run/pass balance and personnel flexibility.

eorge in PA is right. The more you dig the more you start to get into labels. Whatever gets the most out of the players' strengths and their ability to attack an opposition's weaknesses.
As long as we don’t run Barkley from the shotgun draw

12 times every game. I’m all in.
If you've ever watched any Patriot games that's what they are.
Blue21 : 1/11/2020 10:29 am : link
They don't try to force any on thing. It's exactly what he said in his presser. Barkely may get 30 carries one week and 10 the next with 40 passes. Guaranteed he's going to look for a complimentary back to Barkley and that guy will get some carries. Love to see a Burkhead type back here.
I would think...
Brown_Hornet : 1/11/2020 10:33 am : link
...he is referring to assignments up front.
Formations are just that.

It all comes down to, "how is it blocked?"

Gap rules/Zone(in/out)/Trap/3,5,7 Step.
Etc.

Doesn't matter how you line up the "skill" guys. If you want to beat a team, you figure out the best way to block them.

Lol ok. 10. But this is what the best coaches do these days. Does anyone think Clemson runs the exact same offense and plays for Trevor Lawrence as they did w Watson. In some ways it easier in the NFL as you usually have one QBbit then concept of attacking different defenses with differ t schemes and creating and maximizing your talent is pretty much just smart.

Same thing at Alabama. Tua and McCarron are even more different. Again assuming that’s what he means but both sides of the ball neee to do this. Scheme first coaches are doomed to fail unless you have prime BOF QB guys like Brees Rodgers and Brady IMO where they make the scheme look better

the offense would be flexible to the team they are playing and attacking their weaknesses. The Patriots flex their players all the time depending on who they are playing...hence the reason I never use them in fantasy foot ball :) If Shurmer wasnt so stubborn with trying to do his thing or gameplan and not adjusting to the other teams weaknesses he may have lasted more than 2 years.

What frustrated me with shurmur is when something was working (ie, running barkley), he would go away from it. At times, if something wasn't working, he kept trying to do it.

I wish I could find it, but I recall hearing the amount of times barkley ran and the breakdown of production based on where the play was designed (outside the tackles, between the guard or center, etc) and barkley had the best production running the ball outside the tackles and between the tackles and guards and the lowest production between the center and guards, shurmur would keep running him between the center and guard in shotgun formation.

This is an example of having a player who is great in space and yet asking him to do something that is not his or the teams strength and not getting results, but still doing it.
So being ‘multiple’ is meant to deceive and confuse the opponent
Ivan15 : 1/11/2020 11:36 am : link
It looks like it is very effective on BBI fans, so maybe it will work in season too.
Not being scheme-dependent.
Section331 : 1/11/2020 11:54 am : link
Like Belichik, he wants to focus on situational football, to attack an opponent by any means necessary.
I brought up multiples with my girlfriend.
Klaatu : 1/11/2020 12:03 pm : link
But we had vastly different interpretations of the concept, so I decided to drop the whole thing.
What the Pats do best
Jerry's Kids : 1/11/2020 2:21 pm : link
Is switch between pound the rock, having an efficient short passing game and having shot plays that create big chunks of yardage. Defensively they have flexibility between 3-4 and 4-3. Play man effectively, while sprinkling in some zone. Basically coaching players to play multiple roles, be football players, have discipline and beat you in various ways. If that is the mentality, then I’m here for it. The ability to coach football intelligence and be dynamic. Could there be anything more over blown or more myopic than not have coordinator experience? I don’t know if this is the perfect hire, but I applaud the Giants for thinking outside the box. The staff will be telling, but I want a coach that understands the importance of out schemIng the other team as opposed to having a dogmatic philosophy.

it works, you won't hear one iota of the "Giants don't have an identity" argument, that only oddly appears (sarcasm off) when a team is losing.
Do we have any clue
giants_10_88 : 1/11/2020 5:53 pm : link
as to what sort of schemes he will run?
