Fire up the what-if machine - Belichick blocked McD from

pushing up his interviews after the playoff loss, but let Judge go ahead with moving his up.

Think of the implications given McD was rumored to be a strong candidate in Carolina.

It is nice to think of BB that way, but it is hard to imagine that there isn’t another motive.

Here is the ultimate. BB plans to leave the Pats in one or two years for the Giants Director of Football Operations and GM job. He doesn’t want his first job to be finding a new coach so he picked the guy he wants to be there.
I think the motivating factor
jcn56 : 1/11/2020 12:01 pm : link
was to keep McDaniels in NE, and done at Kraft's request. It's the side effects I find interesting. What if the Panthers had hired McDaniels? What if the Giants had another opportunity to speak with him?
wouldn't put it past him
giants#1 : 1/11/2020 12:10 pm : link
but that's a pretty dick thing to do to McDaniels and if you're McDaniels, wouldn't you be pretty pissed about it, especially if you found one of those jobs appealing?
Apparently he wants the Cleveland Job
ZogZerg : 1/11/2020 12:36 pm : link
He got the interview their. No big deal.

Oh right, plus, F Him.
The Giants interviewed McDaniels two years ago...
Torrag : 1/11/2020 12:51 pm : link
and found no need to wait for his interview Wednesday but went ahead hiring Joe. That pretty much says it all as far as our interest.
JCN - what are the implications
Jimmy Googs : 1/11/2020 12:53 pm : link
that you are referring to?
So what changed?
02/03/2008 : 1/11/2020 12:53 pm : link
Last year they wanted to keep him as BBs successor and now they’re willing to let him go?
If the inference is that we might have ended up with Rhule,
Spider56 : 1/11/2020 1:09 pm : link
then I have another reason to love BB ...
Or maybe after the playoff loss, Belichick has
CT Charlie : 1/11/2020 1:31 pm : link
different plans for the future. He may want to step down soon (within a couple of seasons) and Kraft really wants McDaniels to take over.

The domino effect was the first thing I thought of - if Carolina spoke with McDaniels first, maybe the Giants get Rhule first and he never leaves the building. Maybe Carolina just hires McDaniels on the spot.

I like the Judge hire, just pointing out things might have been different if not for the Pats pulling strings. The fact that they let one coach interview and not the other is curious, with the simplest explanation likely being the right one, but you never know.
Reports were BB wants to let Brady go, but Kraft doesnt
GloryDayz : 1/11/2020 2:28 pm : link
This contradicts La Canfora's premise...

If losing McDaniels makes it more likely for Brady to leaves, wouldnt BB want to make things easier for McDaniels, so he gets what he wants (Brady leaving)?
I think they just dont want McDaniels to leave

. Love that kind of thinking and that scenario. Just like Parcells moved on. Good post

Agreed. And who said Belichick made any of these decisions anyway? You would absolutely at the minimum HAVE to get ownership to sign off on a move like this. So if true, this would have had to come from Kraft down.
