Football position coach

XBRONX : 1/11/2020 11:45 am
My question, what is the job description at the college and pro level of a position coach. If you never played the position you are coaching, where does the knowledge base come from? For instance Joe Judge was a backup QB,holder and special teams player in college. His first position coaching job was LB coach at Birmingham-Southern,what was his knowledge base or qualifications. I am sure this happens for almost anybody coaching. Just curious.
Where's dorgan when you need him?

Tons of books, seminars and video cut ups that go very in-depth into all the positions and techniques you can think of

dont NEED to play to know the game.

I have worked for a couple of collegiate programs and never played....

the game can be learned, it isnt something that only those who play know.

ill add to that

i would probably get the LB job at Birmingham Southern right now lol

most position coaches at low schools pay garbage and will take really anyone with any type of background. truth is joe judge is an outlier, most people in 11 years dont go from birm southern to NFL head coach....he blazed a trail and did it starting at 27. dudes story is literally how i wanted my life to go in my late 20s. wife and family came first for me as my now wife didnt want to move a ton and leave her family.

happy we have joe he has worked super hard to make it to today....he really had to
