In his final year of his rookie contract. We have tons of cap space. I wouldn't mind extending him. He seems legit and really seemed to come into his own at the end of the season. Thoughts on this guy?
I guess we might bank on Tomlinson's cheap 4th year and wait for the comp pick. Tomlinson and Williams are good complements, but Lawrence is probably a better complement. Plug Lawrence the 1 and Williams at the 3... Interesting point, Spy.

Thanks!
the best way to use cap space is favorable early extensions Â
I'd hope to get him on a 4 year extension in the same ball park as Shepard's deal last year. He's a solid, ascending player, and has always had a great rep as a team first guy.
I really like that core of Defensive Linemen...3 really terrific football players, and a good foundation to build a Defense. Keeping that intact should be a Major Focus.
Also did Tomlinson good all year or only after Williams arrival?
We play a 3-4 and will probably continue to. Tomlinson is the NT and a good one. They have every reason to want keep him. Now, whether they will pay him this year is another question but a good NT is a critical spot in a 3-4. And BTW, both Lawrence and Williams are DEs in our 3-4.
But given how weak the Giants are in rushing the passer, I can definitely see him signing as a free agent somewhere else, and the Giants getting a comp pick.
With Leonard Williams (assuming Giants re-sign him) and Dexter Lawrence on the team, maybe Dalvin Tomlinson becomes a luxury this team just can't afford.
But Tomlinson is a player wherever he may end up!
He's young, durable, and scheme-diverse (hat tip, Mike Mayock). Â
His versatility makes him exactly the type of player that Judge said he wants. He's not flashy. He'll probably never be a "sack-meister," but he'll do the dirty work in the trenches, a la Barry Cofield. You can win with guys like that.

I dont understand why can't you extend a player? The core of the vikings line has been together for years.
No 2nd contract.
