We've invested a lot of picks into our DL the past couple of years. If Judge doesn't care for the skill sets that our current crop has, who has enough trade value to bring back a different kind of DLman who's a decent player? Or do we just have to write these guys- Tomlinson, Hill, Lawrence, McIntosh off and rebuild the line with the draft or FA's? Maybe Judge can make better use of what they can do?
Hill and McIntosh have been underwhelming. I think a lot of people overrate our DL depth. We do have three starters though in Tomlinson, Lawrence, and Williams.
What do we have
Bunch of slow plodding guys that stop the run but have no speed
One is a top 5 defense
One is a bottom 5 defense

Not understanding. Where has it been stated that he “clearly” wants his own guys?
I still think Hill and McIntosh shouldn't stop us from going in the trenches on D again in the draft if the value is there.

He clearly wants his own guys and Tomlinson was Jerry's last hit on the DL.

Who has he kept from the Reese years?
[quote] It might make sense to have Tomlinson finish up his cheap 4th year here and bank the comp pick while paying Williams and having Lawrence on his rookie deal.

Hill and McIntosh are both Gettleman picks
I don’t know yet.
I hope they keep him. Talented youth on that. Would hate being thin there

The 49ers have 5 former 1st round picks along their defensive line. 5!
Out of those 5:
Solomon Thomas-3rd overall
Nick Bosa-2nd overall
Arik Armstead-17th overall
DeForrest Buckner-7th overall
Dee Ford-23rd overall by Kansas City. Traded to San Francisco for a 2nd round , and given a 5 year 87 million dollar deal.
My point is they invested heavy heavy heavy with the defensive front. It’s not fair to compare the Giants front to that.

We need more pass rushers!!

But you cannot just swivle around each sexy thing (on defense, on O - yes we have to pivot).
We have DTs finally . One more edge if a great one .
But we need safeties and ilbs in the worst way .

DG mentioned setting aside 20 mil for in season extensions. Tomlinson fits that bill. Maybe Engram although I wouldn’t do it.
I don’t think there’s anyone else worth extending this year.

Agreed. I was just thinking in season extension makes sense too.
