Per the source, a 17-game season is “likely, not definitively” part of the new deal ... So will it be done? If the two sides can work out the money that would be associated with a 17-game season, yes. |
The NFL is eager to get the new CBA finished with the players before this season’s Super Bowl. The current CBA expires at the end of the 2020 season.
According to PFT, if not for the new 17 game schedule, everything else has been agreed upon and the new CBA would be done.
I think the writing is on the wall with this one and it’s going to happen. What’s most likely to happen is the NFL will expand to a 19-week season, with each team playing 8 home games, 8 away game, 1 neutral site game and each team getting two bye weeks.
PFT: 17 games likely, not definitively part of new CBA - (
New Window )
This would seem to me like it would unbalance the schedules.
Unlikely though since this doesn't hold true for the rest of the league besides Rams-Chargers, Skins-Ravens, Steelers-Eagles, Cowboys-Texans, Bucs-Phins
This would seem to me like it would unbalance the schedules.
Add one same place team from the AFC
Yes, this is my guess. Everyone plays a game in Europe or Mexico (maybe Canada?) This way, no one has to give up a home game to do it.
Quote:
The formula right now is pretty simple, division rivals home and away, NFC division, AFC division, and two other teams from your conference divisions that finished the same standing as you.
This would seem to me like it would unbalance the schedules.
Add one same place team from the AFC
I guess that would make sense. If the Giants played the NFC West and AFC East one year then say the entire division would also play the AFC North.
1st place NFC East vs 1st place AFC North
2nd place NFC East vs 1st place AFC North
Etc
Etc
They are such phonies. And the NFLPA is as gullible and dumb as ever.
but 19 games .. players careers won't be very long ..

Where did you see something about 19 games? I read the article 3 times and never saw anything about that.
This would seem to me like it would unbalance the schedules.
I have wondered the same thing. It is easy to say one neutral site game to keep home and away even, but who do you play for that game? What kind of formula to you come up with? In all their negotiations for this have the owners said what the formula might be?

The 2nd bye should help improve the health of teams as well
However I will take 17 games over more playoff teams
