Are the 2019 Titans the reincarnation of the 2007 Giants?

Eli Manning.

For all the grief that Eli gets, he was the best QB in any conference during the 2007 playoffs. When his team need him to deliver in all four playoff games, he did.

Tannehill is brutal

He canít shoulder a high level of passes. He doesnít have too all he has to do is throw a couple of PA passes that are wide open. Shit I think Incould hit those passes lol.
There won't be an 18-0 team
St. Jimmy : 1/11/2020 11:39 pm : link
waiting for them in the Superbowl. I think it is selling Eli short by comparing teams. Eli never came off the field to have a running back throw a pass.
I literally just said the same thing

In a group chat. This underdog team looks ready to shock the world!
Move over Michael Strahan, Tuck, and Umenyiora

Harold Landry, Jurrell Casey, and Kamalei Correa are 'bout to harsh your mellow.

Gimme a break. They've been fun to watch - old school - but Reid & Mahomes are gonna b-slap them in 1 week.
There are obvious differences in play but just step back

The Titans just knocked off what half of the NFL fan base thought was the NFLís best team last week and then knocked off the team the other half of the fan base thought was the leagueís best team this week. And the Titans did it in the opponents home stadium each time.

Why shouldnít I think they are the leagues best team right now?
I donít see it
twostepgiants : 1/11/2020 11:41 pm : link
The Giants had a dominant pass rush with the big 3 of Strahan, Osi and Tuck. Eli was phenomenal in the playoffs and we passed all over Green Bay. The Giants werenít a one RB focused team then and going for 200 plus a game,

This Titans team is old school 90s-early 2000s teams that played great defense, power running game and beat you with a very limited passing game that controlled the clock and limited turnovers.
If they win it would be more like 2011

I wouldn't count out the Titans against KC.

I doubt you could've hit the pass he threw for their second TD. It was a beauty of a deep ball.
Yea I donít know about that

Mahomes might. Andy Reid is great at losing in the Championship Game at home.
I thought this last week when they beat the Pats
Leg of Theismann : 1/12/2020 12:01 am : link
They just really give me that 2007/2011 Giants vibe. Something about their fearlessness and their physicality makes this feel eerily similar.

I live in Nashville and I can tell you literally no one was expecting this. Everyone was just happy they went and beat the Pats last weekend because the Pats have literally owned the Titans forever (then again who haven't they owned besides the Giants) and everything after that they feel is just playing with house money. It really reminds me of the way I felt as a Giants fan for those 2 super bowl runs. This had the exact feel of that win in Lambeau over the #1 seed 15-1 A-Rod packers.

Giants will always be far and away #1 in my heart, but as a 10-year Nashville resident I've adopted the Titans as my B-team and this is helping numb a little of the pain I've felt as a Giant fan the past 3 years.
Tannehill ran two QB sneaks one for a first down one for a TD

That's very true, Eric. But I think there is a little similarity here as well in Ryan Tannehill. He quietly had the highest passer rating in the entire NFL this year, went 7-3 as a starter, and has been terrific down the stretch of the season. Now, I know he had less than 100 yards passing the past 2 games which is nowhere near the impact Eli had (especially in the 2011 playoffs) but without Tannehill the Titans would not be here. Even with Henry, Tannehill is still a huge reason why the Titans are converting something like 88% of their redzone trips into TDs (which is unheard of). He's just doing exactly what he needs to do when he needs to do it, which is very Eli-esque.

I don't see any Tannehill in Eli. In fact, everytime, Tannehill drops back, I cringe. He had two TD throws and a TD run today, but he scares the crap out of me.

Agree. Eli carried that team to the playoffs. Once in the other facets started playing. If their Online and Henry keep it up, would be old school

I never saw anything good in Tannehill... until this year. I agree I used to cringe when he dropped back as well, but I think that's driven into our memories from his 8 years with the Dolphins. I've watched most every Titans game this year and he's looked spectacular. His 2019 stats:

10 starts
2,742 yards
70.3% cmp. %
22 TDs
6 INTs
117.5 rating (leads NFL)
4 rushing TDs

He was more much than just a game manager during the regular season. Tonight the stats weren't eye-popping but that's also because they barely had to throw the ball at all. He did convert 1st downs and TDs when he needed, though.

Tannehill is resembling Trent Dilfer a ton more than Eli Manning.

Having said that, I always like the guys metrics. Big, mobile, very good arm.

But it's almost like the playoffs started and TN has totally forgotten what he did this season.........but to their credit, they're going with what's working right now.

I said on another thread, Tannehill will need to carry the team for a period of time this playoff if they are to get there and win it all.
There is a similarity

As far as they can physically beat the schemers by imposing their will.
That's when & how the Patriots have had their losses. Twice against the Giants, the The Eagles & this years playoffs.

Obviously there's nothing wrong with how the Patriots have done things over the years, but there's no analytics or spreadsheet that can save you when you're opponent isn't making mistakes & can physically punch you in the mouth.
much more than*
Leg of Theismann : 1/12/2020 12:28 am : link
(typo)
Extrapolated over 16 games, Tannehill's season would have looked like:
Leg of Theismann : 1/12/2020 12:38 am : link
(approximately)...

4,387 yards
35 TDs
10 INTs
70% cmp.
117.5 rating
6 rushing TDs

There's no question stats like those would have put him in the MVP conversation (again, if he'd played the whole year, but I mean he did play more than half the year - 10 starts - it's not like it was just a 4 or 5 game stretch).

More like 1990

Yeah, I remember hearing that about the Giants in 07 too.

"Yeah but they won't beat the Packers"

"Yeah but the Pats are unbeatable"

+1. But otherwise, yes. Good running team, good defense, good coaching. I told my local Baltimore Ravens friends not to take the Titans lightly and they laughed.
They could be one of those teams
an_idol_mind : 1/12/2020 9:16 am : link
that surprises everybody and just keeps winning, but I don't see a huge parallel between them and the 2007 Giants.

The 2007 Giants had the best quarterback play in the league during the postseason. They also had great resilience, coming back from a deficit in each of their postseason games.
