Texans go and hire McDaniels?
This is a stunning collapse. One of the worst in recent times. O’Brien has two years left on his deal, but it’s always seemed shaky for him in Houston. In 2018 he was nearly fired, but the team decided to jettison the GM and go with O’Brien.
Normally you wouldn’t shitcan your playoff caliber Head Coach after a loss in the divisional round... but this is near historic collapse and there are options available.
McDaniels is available and the Texans could interview and hire him literally tomorrow if they wanted. (Other finalists like Bienemy and Saleh are off limits until unlimited or they win the Super Bowl)
Do you think there is any chance O’Brien gets turfed after this collapse?

At that point, you had two big special teams plays go your way. The blocked punt and the fumbled punt by Hill. Those are great gifts from the football gods; and they are usually enough to win games.
So don't go for the trifecta and wake up the crowd even more. Horrible coaching decision.

If this was his first playoff game I'd say no way he gets fired but we've seen this story before with him. He just chokes it up in the playoffs.
Did you see him wanting to punt in the 4th Qtr on 4th and 4? Watson was like WTF and they end up burning a TO because O'Brien was lost. It was four down territory all quarter and I have no idea why he even thought about punting there.
The fake punt actually may have been more defensible that not going for it on 4th and short. Or at least, the two decisions are entirely incompatible with one another.
- Blowing a 28 pt lead to the colts
- Blowing a 21 pt lead at home to the Titans
- Losing two divisional playoff games at home after a bye
- Losing an afc championship at home
As great as he is coaches have gotten fired for less. I would be happy if he gets his ring and very happy it wasn't with the eagles
What players are going to trust a coach that is a proven choke-artist? Teams always play like shit after a collapse like that.
He probably won't though.
