Jimmy Johnson to the HOF

jgambrosio : 1/12/2020 8:16 pm
Nice way to present it. He had absolutely no clue.
Thought he was going to have a cardiac event
jcn56 : 1/12/2020 8:16 pm : link
for a second there. I'm guessing it had to be unexpected, nobody's that good an actor.

He deserved it, as much as I hated those teams.
that was awesome

Did not like him in Miami or Dallas but he has been a part of football and deserves it. Great way to present it.
Well deserved and damn I was worried
jvm52106 : 1/12/2020 8:18 pm : link
that he was going to have a heart attack too. Very touching and touching to see Aikmans face too. Congrats Jimmy Johnson.

That guy is huge. Dwarfs Howie and Michael - think he is the head of the HOF.

That would have been must-see television.
They should have had Jerry Jones come in and tell him

Then take all the credit for him being there
I'm another person who didn't like him as a coach, but...
Fishmanjim57 : 1/12/2020 8:22 pm : link
He was a winning coach, and is a long lasting icon for the NFL.
It was so cool to see how he was given that information, just as it was yesterday for Bill Cowher.
Very deserved for both men.
That...
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/12/2020 8:25 pm : link
was a great moment to watch. A bunch of the guys were tearing up.
I never knew Jimmy Johnson as the HC of the Cowboys
BestFeature : 1/12/2020 8:25 pm : link
So I've always liked him. Congrats, I'm happy for him.
I'm a diehard Miami Hurricanes fan so I'm biased
Tim in Eternal Blue : 1/12/2020 8:28 pm : link
but I think Jimmy Johnson is one of the greatest football coaches ever. College and Pros.

This was long overdue. Congratulations coach.
Hell of a coach
Bold Ruler : Mod : 1/12/2020 8:30 pm : link
deserves to be there.
Great moment, but also scary for split second lol
Ben in Tampa : 1/12/2020 8:30 pm : link
I think Johnson is actually fairly underrated as a coach.

81-34 as a college coach, 52-9 at Miami. 80-64 in the pros, which includes the 1-15 season his first year in Dallas. National Champion. Super Bowl Champion. College Hall of Fame.

Told Jerry Jones to go fuck himself.
Always love the divisional playoffs, but the Cowher/Johnson knocks

Glad the NFL HOF allows us to see these moments.

Much more deserving...

than Cowher, in my opinion.

Well said. Tremendous coach and great de facto GM for that powerhouse Dallas team.

If Jones wasn't such an conceited ass-face, no telling how many SBs that team compiles with JJ running the show. Maybe another 2-3.

And it's about time. Way too long of a wait...

Didn’t see it but how could he be so surprised
FranknWeezer : 1/12/2020 9:28 pm : link
given CBS did the EXACT SAME THING with Cowher yesterday, and it was widely speculated JJ would get the very same treatment on the FOX broadcast?
Although this was only about his accomplishments in the NFL,
Ivan15 : 1/12/2020 9:37 pm : link
if you think about the college players he developed for the NFL, it makes him a big contributor to the league’s success.
I would have thought he was in already.
St. Jimmy : 1/12/2020 9:41 pm : link
Did an amazing job in Dallas. They don't make teams like that anymore. 49ers vs. the Cowboys next Championship Game was a forgone conclusion st the beginning of the season.
No idea

Not enough years, not enough consistent winning. He has 80 wins. His career % isn’t that good
Well deserved...
trueblueinpw : 1/12/2020 10:32 pm : link
He’s easily one of the best football coaches from the past 40 years. There’s Belichick and then there’s Jimmy Johnson. Easiest HoF decision ever.
Not to be a hater
Leg of Theismann : 1/12/2020 11:38 pm : link
But it’s clear that his college coaching career was considered here (almost 25 years and an 81-34-3 record), even though it shouldn’t have been. I mean what’s next are we putting Brian Bosworth in the HOF? Okay that’s going a little far, Jimmy did win 2 SBs, but his NFL career alone I don’t think should have gotten him in. He only coached for 10 years and outside of ‘92 and ‘93 (when Jerry Jones had assembled the best roster of the decade) Jimmy Johnson didn’t have much success at all. I’m just saying without the long successful college career I’m not sure he gets in and that seems weird to me. Just playing devils advocate I understand he was a very good coach.

If you think Jerry Jones assembled that roster and not Jimmy Johnson, you need to go back and read a little more about the Cowboys of the early 90s
I don’t know

At the risk of soundIng like a grouch, these made for tv moments kinda cheapen the hall of fame. Even if probably not true, it gives the impression that people are being selected for a tv moment as opposed to merit. Both JJ and Cowher have been rejected many times and now they get in to the HOF in these Ed McMahon (you just won a house) moments just leaves a bad impression with me. With that said, once they elected Dungy last year, it is really hard to keep out Cowher.
I hope he remembers to thank Mike Lynn

The only credit Jerry Jones gets for that SB run in the ‘90s was writing checks in the pre-cap era. Jimmy Johnson was the architect of all three SB winners. That third SB in ‘96 technically goes to Switzer, but anyone who paid attention knows that’s Jimmy’s team as well. Beyond the great coaching, his roster management from ‘89 to ‘93 was as good as any period in the history of the NFL.

The great irony to you giving Jones credit is that he’s actually the person who destroyed that great dynasty.

And since Dallas hasn’t done anything since ‘96, that’s all the proof you need to know.
Don't give them..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/13/2020 8:46 am : link

Well deserved. Enjoyed seeing the cutaways to Aikman too, you could see him welling up with emotion.
I have to think there was some ill will
Section331 : 1/13/2020 10:07 am : link
towards Jimmy from HOF voters, because he had a pretty open and shut HOF case. I think voters may have resented how JJ treated Don Shula when as a broadcaster, he pretty much openly campaigned for the Dolphins job.
