He was a winning coach, and is a long lasting icon for the NFL.
It was so cool to see how he was given that information, just as it was yesterday for Bill Cowher.
Very deserved for both men.
I think Johnson is actually fairly underrated as a coach.
81-34 as a college coach, 52-9 at Miami. 80-64 in the pros, which includes the 1-15 season his first year in Dallas. National Champion. Super Bowl Champion. College Hall of Fame.
Told Jerry Jones to go fuck himself.
Always love the divisional playoffs, but the Cowher/Johnson knocks Â

Well said. Tremendous coach and great de facto GM for that powerhouse Dallas team.
If Jones wasn't such an conceited ass-face, no telling how many SBs that team compiles with JJ running the show. Maybe another 2-3.
Did an amazing job in Dallas. They don't make teams like that anymore. 49ers vs. the Cowboys next Championship Game was a forgone conclusion st the beginning of the season.
But it’s clear that his college coaching career was considered here (almost 25 years and an 81-34-3 record), even though it shouldn’t have been. I mean what’s next are we putting Brian Bosworth in the HOF? Okay that’s going a little far, Jimmy did win 2 SBs, but his NFL career alone I don’t think should have gotten him in. He only coached for 10 years and outside of ‘92 and ‘93 (when Jerry Jones had assembled the best roster of the decade) Jimmy Johnson didn’t have much success at all. I’m just saying without the long successful college career I’m not sure he gets in and that seems weird to me. Just playing devils advocate I understand he was a very good coach.

If you think Jerry Jones assembled that roster and not Jimmy Johnson, you need to go back and read a little more about the Cowboys of the early 90s
At the risk of soundIng like a grouch, these made for tv moments kinda cheapen the hall of fame. Even if probably not true, it gives the impression that people are being selected for a tv moment as opposed to merit. Both JJ and Cowher have been rejected many times and now they get in to the HOF in these Ed McMahon (you just won a house) moments just leaves a bad impression with me. With that said, once they elected Dungy last year, it is really hard to keep out Cowher.

The only credit Jerry Jones gets for that SB run in the ‘90s was writing checks in the pre-cap era. Jimmy Johnson was the architect of all three SB winners. That third SB in ‘96 technically goes to Switzer, but anyone who paid attention knows that’s Jimmy’s team as well. Beyond the great coaching, his roster management from ‘89 to ‘93 was as good as any period in the history of the NFL.
The great irony to you giving Jones credit is that he’s actually the person who destroyed that great dynasty.
And since Dallas hasn’t done anything since ‘96, that’s all the proof you need to know.
towards Jimmy from HOF voters, because he had a pretty open and shut HOF case. I think voters may have resented how JJ treated Don Shula when as a broadcaster, he pretty much openly campaigned for the Dolphins job.
RE: They should have had Jerry Jones come in and tell him Â
He deserved it, as much as I hated those teams.
President of the HOF
David Baker, president and CEO (had no idea the position existed) of the hall
That guy is huge. Dwarfs Howie and Michael - think he is the head of the HOF.
That would have been must-see television.

This was long overdue. Congratulations coach.

Glad the NFL HOF allows us to see these moments.

And it's about time. Way too long of a wait...
LMAO

It was 1995!!
Here is a great article full of links.

Good one.
