10 episode mini-series based off a recent Stephen King book. Stars Ben Mendelsohn and Jason Bateman. Bateman also serves as ex producer and directed the first two episodes. Between this and Ozark he's really on a tear. Later in Kings career he's ventured off into crime fiction and I've enjoyed much of those works, and The Outsider kind of serves to marry his recent works to the bulk of his career. I thought the first two episodes were really well done. Anyone else catch it?
Same here, especially the first half. Tbh I thought the ending was a little weak but don't wanna get into spoilers here. And that kinda ties into my concern with the show, that theyre rushing through the mystery of these conflicting truths. To me that was the most riveting part of the whole story, how you can have two mutually exclusive events backed up by eyewitness accounts and forensic evidence. I dont think the reveal or payoff will be as good without the build-up.
They did the opening scene very well and didnt shy away from the nature of the crime. They also added a wrinkle to Ralph Anderson's character that makes his response and decision to arrest Terry so publicly make a little more sense. So far its been good but I do feel theyre kind of rushing the best part of the story.
I really liked the Bill Hodges trilogy. Finders Keepers was great, Mr. Mercedes was good, End of Watch wasn't one of my favorites. But I couldnt get into the tv show, and Im a big Brendan Gleason fan. My only complaint with The Outsider was the inclusion of Holly. Couldve been a nice little easter egg but didnt think she needed to become the main character. Its very much a 2 part book, and I thought the first part was much stronger.
