Try this again: More #Giants assistants coming together: QB coach is expected to be Jerry Schuplinski, sources said. Was assistant QB coach for the #Dolphins, who will let him reunite with Joe Judge. Schuplinski was with the #Patriots 2013-18.
Thanks. I thought we were getting a cartoon expert when I saw WB :-)

anyone surprised that the OC was not hired first?

Or most likely, his current contract expires tomorrow.
Here's an article with some comments from Garoppolo.
From July 2019. - ( New Window )
I would put it differently. I think he is going with people who know, share, and are able to teach his vision, the patriots one, of a team.
Yes Graham and Schuplinski were with him on the Pats but what happened to "not just going to hire his friends"?
Not to mention we are poaching from one of the worst teams in the league?

Starting to feel like this is going to be the case
named assistant quarterbacks coach on Feb. 8, 2019.
Schuplinski has been part of three Super Bowl winning teams (XLIX, LI and LIII) during his six seasons
(2013-18) as an NFL coach with New England. His teams won four AFC titles and advanced to the conference
championship in all six years.
Schuplinski spent the past three seasons (2016-18) in New England as the assistant quarterbacks coach,
working closely with Tom Brady. In 2018, the Patriots won Super Bowl LIII while finishing eighth in passing,
averaging 266.1 net passing yards per game. Brady was seventh in the NFL with 4,355 passing yards and 10th
with 29 passing touchdowns, earning his 14th Pro Bowl selection.
In 2017, Schuplinski helped Brady win the league’s Most Valuable Player award for the third time in
his career. Brady was the NFL’s leading passer, throwing for 4,577 yards. His 32 passing touchdowns
and 102.8 passer rating were both third in the league.
The Patriots led the NFL in total offense,
averaging 394.2 yards per game, and finished second in scoring, averaging 28.6 points per game.
In Schuplinski’s first season as assistant quarterbacks coach in 2016, the Patriots won Super Bowl LI. Brady
was named Super Bowl MVP after he passed for 466 yards and two touchdowns in a dramatic come-frombehind overtime victory against Atlanta. Patriots quarterbacks set an NFL record with 258 pass attempts to
start the season without an interception. The team threw just two interceptions all season, setting an NFL
record for best touchdown to interception ratio (16.0) in a single season. With Brady out for the first four
games of the season, Schuplinski worked with quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett, helping
the team go 3-1 in Brady’s absence.
Schuplinski got his start in the NFL in 2013 with the Patriots as a coaching assistant, a position he held for
three seasons (2013-15). During those three years, New England won Super Bowl XLIX and compiled a 36-12
(.750) regular-season record. The Patriots earned a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs in all three seasons.
Prior to New England, Schuplinski spent six seasons (2007-12) as the linebackers and special teams coach
at Case Western Reserve. During his tenure, Schuplinski mentored 22 University Athletic Association (NCAA
Division III) all-conference selections.
Schuplinski was head coach and athletics director at Trinity High School in Garfield Heights, Ohio from
2002-06.
He began his coaching career as a running backs and special teams coach at his alma mater, John
Carroll, from 2000-01.
Schuplinski played collegiately at John Carroll, where he was college teammates with former NFL
linebacker London Fletcher and Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio and offensive coordinator/
quarterbacks coach Josh McDaniels.
He graduated from the school with his bachelor’s degree in business
administration/marketing in 1999 and his master’s degree in business administration in 2001.
Schuplinski and his wife, Megan, have four daughters, Macy, Bryn, Jaxi and Josy. His last name is
pronounced shu-PLIN-skee.
No worries. I get it. Tried to repost but could for a few minutes. What’s funny is Garafolo called him Matt in the tweet. Is that what he goes by? Or was that a mistake on his part?
But, I'm cautiously optimistic.
linebacker London Fletcher and Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio and offensive coordinator/
quarterbacks coach Josh McDaniels.
You'll see these types of connections no matter who you look at.
My biggest failing: Not calling Bucknellian Doug Lebda when he brought Lending Tree to Charlotte. We were in the same class!
Is there something I am not seeing with that the Dolphins were some kind of success on the field this year?

Why would you be worried about the new HC hiring the guys he wants to hire? I just don't understand, if he isn't hiring the names you are familiar with, is he already doing a bad job?
And I also dont udnerstand the mentality that Coach X coached on Team Y, therefore because of Team Y's results Coach X must suck. It is never as simple as that.

No, your biggest failure was not becoming general manager of the US Men's National Team ...

Well their talent base is the worst in the league, and they overperformed. 5-4 in the last nine games, which is a testament to the coaching

isn't too strange to have incestuous ties in the coaching fraternity:

ahhhh. Fucking Gulati. He was 10 years ahead of me though.
Big difference.

Most likely, he's either going to be picking guys he's worked with and whose qualities he knows, or he's going to follow Gettleman's recommendations on a staff. Which do you prefer?
Sorry Jerry!

Very Belichick-ish to recruit staff from a small, nerdy school with strong STEM programs. Did Schuplinski also play lacrosse?
Big difference.
Patriots coaches with a layover in South Beach?

These are coaches that judge has seen operate. He knows what they can do and their personalities. I don't see this as doing favors for friends. He is bringing guys in that he trusts and knows. Big difference. If you are going to bring people in to instill your vision and beliefs, wouldn't you want to bring in known people instead of unknowns?
I will be interested to see how the rest of his staff goes and curious where he goes for offensive coordinator.
As far as basing anything off of the dolphins, well 1 year does not outweigh the years that judge has seen these coaches operate, especially the huge undertaking that these coaches took with miami

Because he's not even 40 years old and is picking an entire staff of young guys. I trust what he's doing, that's why I said I'm getting a little worried.
I understand your second argument too, and that's just it - it's never as simple as that. It's not black and white but the opposite also rings true. There's been many coaches that were on shitty teams and still...well, sucked. Especially with a young QB I want to see a proven guy in there.
Big difference.
True, if we were taking Dolphins coaches, we'd hire Adam Gase.
Sounds to me like the OC is going to be familiar with all these guys too maybe someone from the Patriots
I don't think Chad O'Shea will have any problems with Schuplinski as his QB Coach

Basically, I believe thats correct. FLores came from the Patriots and raided their coaching staff to fill out his staff......and it appears we are doing the same thing with some of the guys he brought with him from NE...via South Beach.

Yup, even a cursory review of resumes tells you both of the last hires were weaned in the Patriots system and ONLY spent one each each with the Dolphins.
So what do you think?
