I liked Gallman's potential coming out but he has stalled. He still looks thin for RB and Allen clearly beat him out. I would like to see the Giants add more of an A2 back, like Latavius Murray was for NO this past year. Someone with near RB1 credentials who isn't getting a majority share anywhere.
I personally think Gallman is a pretty good back and we have enough to get the job done with him and Allen. SB should be the workhorse and is an every down back and should only be spelled on occasion.
Of course bring in some UDFAs to compete but we have a lot of cap space tied up in the RB spot to sign anyone of note.
fine. Buck Allen did a decent job stepping ahead of Gallman. Hows about we let the new HC and OC evaluate. 2nd and 3rd RB are the least of our worries.
I firmly believe Barkley and the running game will Â
There are more than a few teams that have a better or as good back as their 3rd stringer. For instance I would rather have Balt's Justice Hill. If Gallman was a 3rd string guy for the Giants I would be ok. But for a primary backup to Barkley I hope they find someone better.
he looks ready to make a consistent contribution, he has a setback.
The Giants need competition at all backup spots. Gallman, Allen, a low-level free agent and a draft pick. Let them battle it out and the best pass catcher and blocker wins.
but there has to be some reason other than incompetent coaching that he wasn't dressing.
Boston Scott, and even more so Joe Morris, were a lot more than little speed guys. They're both strong as hell, and play a physical game. But I've been looking for a back that can compliment Saquon, somebody who's a change of pace, more physical runner, who doesn't mind running inside to pickup short yardage.
Maybe a mini Derrick Henry. A taller back, though not as massive, who's caught my eye is Patrick Taylor Jr. out of Memphis. While 6'3" and only 230, he's very strong and physical and effective at short yardage. Plus he has good vision and decent long speed as well. I need to watch more of him. A late round pick, or possibly an UDFA.

Allen clearly beat him out?? How so? Because the fired coach said so? Gallman is a great back up. SMH
Patrick Taylor Jr. is about the same size as a well known former NFL RB, and he has a similar gliding style in the open field: Eric Dickerson.
Not saying he has that much speed, or level of talent, or will succeed as well, but the above statements are just facts.
But what I like is the power he shows near the goal line. Assuming that whatever injury kept him out of most of the 2019 season is healed, and his last game with multiple TD's suggests it is, I believe he has a least a 50/50 shot at an NFL career, and just maybe, a good one.
Imagine as a defender one play you are getting run over, and the next play you are getting juked out of your shorts.

Shanny stuff.
So, regardless of system is look for an instant burst outside runner even if it's a one cut deal as your #2.
Go for high probability of 6 yards vs the occasional long run
Which sets up your O.
Maybe package gallman and evan engram for a quality draft pick
Gallman can be cut for about $100K in dead money.
I'm sure some will disagree, I just think he'll play elsewhere next year.

So no reason to sweat this if scouting does their job...

They need to get better running the ball if that is their identity.

This is only because of play calling. They actually ranked 7th in Yards per Carry.
